After much delay, THQ Nordic has confirmed hyper-stylised RPG Battle Chasers: Nightwar finally has a release date on Nintendo Switch, with the port arriving on 15th May. It'll retail for $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99 and will also have a retail edition for all you physical collectors.
Originally Kickstarted in 2015, Battle Chasers launched last year on other platforms to plenty of respectable reviews. THQ Nordic has discussed the challenges of getting the game to run on Switch, and the time it takes for Nintendo to sign off on the finished code, but we finally have a release date that's a mere five weeks out.

Check out the animated intro for Battle Chasers: Nightwar above and let us know if this turn-based RPG will be making its way onto your Nintendo Switch in May...

Man I've been waiting for this for time!
I'm gonna pass. Wasn't too interested but that price for an incredibly late release is a big turn off.
I'll wait for the reviews, but it looks pretty nice.
Ah Finally. Have been waiting for this. Really took them forever to port this.
Day one for me. Pre-ordered already.
Held off on this to get it on the switch. Glad I locked in my preorder on Amazon for $25!
US only below.
Currently $25.99 on Target on Switch for pre-order.

$25.98 on Amazon on Switch, that does away w/ the Prime discount however as it's $39.99 MSRP Says "Pre-order Price guarantee".

Either of those is better than $40.
Not sure how you get a turn based RPG out of that trailer, looks like Gauntlet or Diablo to me.
EDIT - Amazon says "Pre-order Price guarantee" not Target, my apologies.
@rjejr have you watched gameplay? It's most certainly a turn based jrpg
slightly later?...oh well, I am still going to get it but from my understanding the unity stuff was making it hard on the dev, right? I'll see how it performs at least a stable 30 is fine.
I very liked the trailer. The swordsman look like Berserk character. A bit like Ike too.
WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!! also, Amazon is selling it at $25

Was a Kickstarter backer. Excited to finally play this.
@redd214 No, but I have seen some screenshots and it looks a lot like Child of Light so I do see where the game is turn based, guess my point was - here's a trailer for a game that was already out 5 months ago on other consoles, but let's not show anybody what the game itself actually looks like. If this were E3 and it was 2 years before release, ok, show a CGI trailer, but the game has already been out for months, NL should show a trailer with some game play in it so we can see what the game itself looks like, not just the Netflix cartoon ad version.
So the physical copy is also out May 15th?
I've been holding out for this for awhile. Got my $25 copy already pre-ordered, dunno what's up with the whole 25/40 discrepancy but I'll take it.
@XenoShaun Amazon has actually had it listed for 26 bucks since like October. Annoyed by the delay but, I know some of the initial delay was that UNITY update (same thing that pushed Yooka) and all various fixes and rebalances they did to the already released versions. Then they always said they would launch both physical and digital at the same time, so once they got approval it’s take a little more time for physical to be made. All I’m saying is, the Switch tax is removed on Amazon and they seem to have some good raisins for the delay.
@link3710 it’s been like that once October. I think this is the longest I’ve ever had a preorder.
@Rika_Yoshitake yep. That was always their plan, not to release digital ahead of physical when approved.
@Dang69 I'm a UK guy so the Amazon deal was never a go for me. Good for those in the states who did, it is a far better deal.
@XenoShaun Just curious... Why does it being "late" correlate to the price being correct or not? Isn't it still the same game in the end?
Sweet. Been waiting on this one.
FINALLY! Will try to pick up this year (trying to cut back on day one buys).
Edit...for 25 bucks ill preorder it now.
May is gonna be expensive between this dark souls, deep strange journey and donkey kong
huzzah! Finally
Switch version slightly later!
I'm looking at reviews and it seems that it gets very grind heavy at a certain point. I don't mind a grind in my RPG's but it seems really bad in this game. Anyone play it on other consoles and can give me an idea of what it's like?
I used to be excited for this game but that died about 7 months ago.
Definitely going to wait for reviews on the Switch version before considering the game. Too bad by then, the game will be more expensive on the Switch than the other platforms.
Nice! I've had the physical version pre ordered since last August. Grind heavy RPGs like this are a great fit on Switch (looks at Dragon Quest XI.)
@Morgan19 Some people see games like this, the "more money at a later release date", as a slap in the face for those who waited to buy it on that platform. Not saying that is a right or wrong attitude, but I get it.
I will wait for a review. I know too little about the game to have a good opinion right now.
@XenoShaun @Dang69 @Morgan19
6 months late, but it took additional work and additional money to develop, and it is the same experience for the end user in a market landscape that is extremely similar to when it was released.
Still, I guess many gamers are now accustomed to race-to-the-bottom prices soon after a game releases. One reason that type of practice gives a short-term gain but long term damage to the industry and the actual games themselves.
For instance, game devs and publishers struggle to find ways to offer games with the higher production value gamers demand, but for the low prices they expect. The sad result is that we sometimes get monetization schemes that can damage the experience those games offer.
Gamers should pay for what they want more of. If a gamer won't pay for they types of games they want, that play the way they want, they shouldn't expect them to continue being made.
Not saying I won't jump on a chance to save money, though.
I backed this and waited a long time for the Switch version. I gave up and got the PC version. I'm kinda glad I did. The game is pretty good. I really enjoy that the early fights aren't real easy like FF games tend to be. Also, there's a chance the Switch version may have some performance issues until a performance patch is release. This is just idle speculation, and I'm not basing it on anything other we've seen some games go through this.
But, port aside, the game is worth playing. Classic ATB style combat with it's own twists. I've come to like the characters, and enjoyed the comics. I hope they do more with the comics.
Worth $30usd? $25 for sure. $30 might depend if you'd go back for another play through. There are aspects of the game that it's obvious they didn't have budget to really polish the game. I was disappointed in the music when I got the OST from the backer kit. The music wasn't bad, but wasn't memorable either. Playing the game now some bits are better than listening to it isolated. Really nice art direction that matches the comics very well.
Well alright, another game I am going to get.
@aaronsullivan To me it doesn't help its launching at a higher price than the others and is 7 months late. And we don't know for sure if the port is a good job either (correct me on that one if Digital Foundry or whoever have done the rounds).
I'm more than happy to shove my money into the games I want, or even delve into the sometimes ridiculously priced CE's.
@Arcamenel It was pretty bad in the beginning. The game in its current form with all of its updates is a lot more tolerable. The majority of the grinding now is just to do optional or post game content, or to 100% the game. If you are here for just the story and dungeon crawling you don't have to worry too much about the grind though.
Definitely be interested. Wonder how big the download is. And game length.
It get good reviews on other platforms, but none mention game length.
I look into it again on the 15th may.
