Psyonix has revealed that Rocket League's 'Tournaments Update' - which was recently tested out in a beta on PC - will be heading to Nintendo Switch on 3rd April.
Besides the much-anticipated addition of the Tournaments feature, which will allow players to create and run their own tournaments without leaving the game, the update is set to introduce a number of "quality of life improvements". Perhaps most notably for Nintendo fans, this includes some performance and visual quality updates for the Switch version of the game.
In addition to this, the following features will also make their way to our favourite football-playing car game on 3rd April.
Connection Quality Information - New notification icons that will signal the types of online connection issues during online matches to better troubleshoot issues
Enhanced Garage Options - New item stacking, filtering, searching, and sorting options
Expanded Team Customisation - More shades have been added to the primary colour palette for Battle-Cars and players will now have the choice to “Equip to Blue” and “Equip to Orange” for painted car bodies
Audio Improvements - Crowd audio has been tweaked to better react to saves, goals, and important plays, and the soundtrack will now be available to play during online and offline matches
Samurai Battle-Car - New Import Battle-Car available as a limited-drop inside the new Triumph Crate
Do you like the sound of the new tournaments feature? Let us know if you'll be giving it a test drive in the comments below.

For anyone wondering the added visual features should include:
Performance Mode - 900p (Docked) / 720p (Handheld) @ 60 FPS with infrequent dynamic resolution scaling
Quality Mode - Native 1080p (Docked) / 720p (Handheld) @ 30 FPS with added visual effects
Who would ever choose Quality Mode for an extra 180 lines at the cost of half the frame-rate for a game like this?
Awesome news! Now time to buy!
@holygeez03 Digital Foundry
Still waiting to cross-platform party with friends.
Soundtrack during matches, nice!
@YummyHappyPills DF is pretty consistent with preferring 60 fps in games. That being said, they will praise the option of having a 1080p presentation.
Cannot wait for the tournaments. I knew they were coming soon but it's great to have a date. Bracketed elimination tournaments will add so much to the experience. Much better than just playing single competitive matches all the time. Can't get enough of this game, one of my all time favourites.
Ive played the game over 150 hours and never had the farm ,space and aquarium maps on the switch. Offline yes its there but never online crossplay aswell. Anyone else had this too?
@garydbz25 - 80 hours and same situation here.
@Shadeus They said spring, so June 20th? lol.
@Jokerwolf @Shadeus Cross party play isn't coming until over the summer, perhaps later. It has that info in the in-game developer blog. There will be new arenas added too, XP will be relevant again, decryptors can be earned through play and also some new features will be added. The game is going to keep on growing, really looking forward to see how it evolves over the months and years. Psyonix have already said they have no intentions of making a sequel and will just keep growing the game. Great stuff!
@Paraka @garydbz25 Those maps are only available in certain modes. When you're selecting a mode to play, press Y and you can see what maps are available for online matches. You can even choose which ones you prefer to play on and which ones you don't. There are only 8 available for competitive I think.
@YummyHappyPills Your comment made me laugh so hard
There's also new music from Monstercat being added soon.
Then there's the spring event which is currently on for the next 2 & ½ weeks, this includes freebies as long as you earn flower points from completing online matches. You earn no points for being a pussy and quiting any of your matches.
The spring crates can be bought unlocked from the eShop, but they're a rip off. You can also use earned flower points to get locked crates, and they also randomly drop after matches.
@Dizzy_Boy I've so far bought 3 of the 5 available Decryptors. The first one I used in the Players Choice Crate and got the Octane ZSR, well happy with that. The 2nd I used in a dropped Spring crate and got those blue and red wheels happy with those too. My third I got the Athena decal for the van, really didn't want that but 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Perfect. Been waiting for this. I've needed another reason to jump back in
Will go with Performance mode (the obvious choice).
For the other game with such options, Fire Emblem Warriors I chose Performance mode as well. 60 fps any day, plus, I'm getting 900p so no worries here.
If they recreate the game in Unreal 4, it will do 1080 @ 60 fps.
But they are saving it for Rocket League 2 so you have to pay for it.
Perfect time to snag this on on next sale... SOLD!
@Nintendoforlife Great news. I am planing on picking it up today when the sale goes live. I love it when companies let the players have a choice with either quality or performance.
For me I will always take lower graphics to have 60fps any day but it is also great for people who don't care for fps and want to have higher graphics.
@OorWullie I had similar luck with the 3 keys I've used so far. Tsanumi beam boost, slk wheels, and a ripped comic decal.
I'm not fussed about those being none transferable ,but the thing that worried me is if I used the keys on one type of crate I could end up with repeats.
This game already occupies more gigabytes on my Switch than any other game, and I've only played it a few times. I can't breach my campus Wi-Fi on my Switch for some reason, so I can only play online while I'm home for the weekends, but I always forget about Rocket League. I'm not particularly good, from what little I've played, and I just don't know I necessarily want to take the time to improve. So for now, I may have to hold off on this update until I finally spring for a MicroSD card.
@SilentHunter382 Actually since launch the game has been locked at 720p in Docked mode. So this is a bit of an upgrade whichever option you choose.
