1080° Snowboarding on the N64 and its sequel 1080° Avalanche on the GameCube are both fondly remembered arcade style snowboarding games, which were overshadowed a bit by EA's SSX series back in the day. Still it seems that Nintendo has a fond spot for the series as it's recently trademarked the name "1080° Ten Eighty".
Could this mean that another game in the series might be in development for Nintendo Switch? Might this trademark be needed for 1080° Snowboarding to appear on a future N64 Classic Mini? Perhaps we'll see 1080° Avalanche come to the Switch Virtual Console as one of the first GameCube games?
Be sure to speculate on this mysterious trademark filing with a comment below...

Yes please ???
Yes please, Nintendo!
yes please, this eventually became my most played game on my N64, would love to have it on the switch...
Omg yes please
Ohhh man please be true. While your at it Nintendo, bring back Snowboard Kids too....good times!!
Loved 1080 on the 64. Bring it back!
I miss this game. Do it.
Don't rule out another Nintendo branded cereal. " 1080 Crunch" sounds appetizing.
Wave race please
I hope it is a new game loved 1080° on the n64 never got around to playing avalanche and a modern incarnation would be the perfect addition to my ever expanding switch game collection
Omg, yes please!!!
Also Wave Race!!!!
Bring them on now!!!!
Loved it on the N64. Wave race would be even better!
It could be anything, maybe making sure a trademark doesn't expire or it could be in preparation for Gamecube VC games on Switch.
N64 HD Remake confirmed ?
I couldn’t properly control the N64 version to save my life. I never got any good at it. However, I love Avalanche on Gamecube. A brand new one would be welcomed!
Orrr, and this is a long stretch, perhaps, just perhaps, Nintendo are merely renewing a trademark for one of the IPs like they do with any other.
Look how often Eternal Darkness gets renewed and nothing happens. Seriously, there is nothing here news worthy.
1080 was awesome, but a SSX beater? Not a chance. Still, these days I'll take whichever snowboarding games I can get so excited to hear more...
Avalanche was amazing. Remake or new, just get it on the Switch!!
Nibelsnarf that, bring back Wave Race
The spelling would make the copyright invalid if it were to be used in a charge for "1080° Snowboarding" or "1080° Avalanche" since you obviously can't copyright an angle degree and "1080° TenEighty" is a different name altogether.
They do this all the time. They just want to make sure nobody else takes their brands. It only means something's on the way when it's actually confirmed. Until then it's got the same release date as Half-life 3 in my opinion, at least as far as Nintendo's concerned.
Interesting! Now how about Snowboard Kids?
Yaaasssss
This is another clue that the N64 classic mini is under way
YAAAAAAAAAS!
Since it's in their back catalog, I would assume this is for VC releases or an N64 mini. I doubt it's for a new entry in the series.
And speaking of Snowboarding, I think we can forget about getting Steep on Switch, it's likely now dead, buried under an avalanche. We've heard next to nothing in ages and what we did hear was that Ubisoft were struggling to get it to run on Switch. The game's been out for over a year elsewhere and is far cheaper than what the likely price a Switch version would be.
Not to mention, Steep: Road To The Olympics came out last month, making the original even more redundant.
Waverace?
I would love a new game but I suspect this is a re-release of some sort. or just defending their copyright.
I think this would be amazing. Even if Steep would hit the Switch, it's not nearly as fun as 1080. Hopefully this is a remaster, but like most people said, it's probably a re-release.
Although it's likely only to protect their IP, I sincerely hope that this is either a sign of there indeed being plans to release an N64 Mini, but perhaps also a HD re-imagining of the GameCube title for the Switch, or an entirely new game exclusive to the Switch, or all three. (says the drooling, wide-eyed fanboy hiding inside of me... )
Been playing Tricky on the cube the past few days. Man I loved/love that game!!! It's got all the 'tude of early 2000s, lol.
Love a new 1080 on the switch! Make it happen

I think a new 1080 snowboarding on Switch is actually pretty likely.

Not to get anyone's hopes up, but Nintendo did mention that they wanted to bring back some cherished IPs in the near future. Not saying it will happen, but its possible.
“Work your body, work your bo-dy....”.
"Work ya body, work ya body! Work ya body, work ya body! Work! Work work, work work!" LoL... I remember that sir playing while the characters were all lounging around a winter home. Classic game on the N64.
Loved 1080s on the n64. Weirdly, I’m not that taken with the classic series but I can see why other people are.
This said, a rubric cube sized purple GameCube will be mine day one!
I loved the 'shared history' of Avalanche and Blue Storm. I thought that was cool.
I hope so! Make sure you add more game modes & championships because that was sorely lacking on the original. A short campaign mode was it. Ridiculous!
Loved 1080 on N64, my brother and I spent too much time playing it. Even today I can remember the runs off by heart.
Could we do a 1080 Battle Royal? 100 people are on a mountain, while an avalanche is taking place, and last one to survive all the surprise terrain wins.
Avalanche still looks amazing, I would love to see what Nintendo could do with a new game, or even just a remake.
OMG OMG OMG
Loved the N64 version, didn't give a crap for the gamecube one
@readyletsgo somebody's been playing Tricky a lot.
New Wave Race and 1080! My 64bits nipples would get so hard that would become a new Mario level! Or a pipe for snowboarding!
Please be a sequel...
Don't care about this game, but this seems like it might be a good sign of incoming GC VC.
Love the series but it better not be a dormant trademark like what Eternal Darkness is. In fact the Eternal Darkness trademark is still valid now, do something with it already Ninty.
I still don't understand why Nintendo doesn't semi-regularly do something with these IP's. Let some young devs or up and coming studio cut their teeth on them. Fill niches that otherwise go unfilled on their consoles.
@Captain_Gonru I like the Combo pack idea best...
Something that I can't say, to make you want to stay here with me forever...
Something that I can't do, to make you want me like I need you too. I need you too...
This was my absolute favorite from that game. Feels so familiar to me, although I can't put my finger on it...
@Ryu_Niiyama ha! Lol! Yeah, when I was posting that, NL kepts popping up saying I am doing something 'illigal'. So I kept pressing the reply button 😁
Speculation and more speculation. I don't have enough salt for any of this
Personally I preferred SSX but as that series seems to be dead after the massively underappreciated SSX (2012) then 1080 is the next best thing!
I nibelsnarfin hope it’s a new game 🤞❤️ Way better than ssx btw
I love 1080° Avalanche I'd love it or a sequel (or both!) on Switch
Yes
Yes! An HD original game for the Switch would be best, and then release HD remakes of 1080 Snowboarding and 1080 Avalanche to cap it all off.
I'm also hoping for new entries in PilotWings and Wave Race.
Renewing trademarks is just somethign you gotta do to protect your brands. Doesn't mean anything new in necessarily underway, but it would be cool.
Make it all about shield surfing.
YES PLEASE.
Yes please . 1080 , Wave Race And Pilotwings 64 . 3 of my all time favourite games . I’d snap up reboots ........or even the original N64 versions on Switch
Anything is Welcome
Obligatory "shut up and take my money" post...
Fingers crossed - but please don't let the terrible Nintendo Seatle team touch it.
They ruined Wave Race and 1080 - both games animations were downgraded from the n64, they dropped the realism and tried to make it all 'cool' and 'hip' in typical American fashion.
I loved the Games for N64 and GameCube! A New one would be so awesome!!
@GeeEmm 3rd party property, plus it already had a revival on DS.
1080 Snowboarding for the N64 was the best snowboarding game I have ever played. Even to this day I still love to play it from time to time, and nothing can quite match it.
Steep: Mario Edition?
Great news, if it's N64 version with hd then great, same with cube
Hopefully a sequel though, add online with 8 players or more and leaderboards for times.
Gonna buy this no matter what version it is
Looks like Ubisoft is gonna be collaborating on another Nintendo IP to me. You seen Steep anywhere? Nope.
Loved the N64 original. One of my proudest gaming moments was realising that my fastest time for one of the slopes was faster than the one listed in the records section of a magazine. Happy days.
I thought that Game & Wario's Skiing mode was 1080 3...
I remember enjoying the N64 game with my cousins back when it was new, but honestly don't really long for re-experiencing the game. What I would hope for more is this being a potential sign of a Switch Virtual Console in general.
If the price is right I might still pick it up on a VC though. I am sure I could enjoy it for a couple hours at least.
360, 720....1080!!!!
I doubt they might do something, it seems they are simply keeping the trademark.
If it means something, it would be great though. 1080° was a great sport game, it was a shame the last game was in the Gamecube.
Not much into snowboarding games, but would rather play Steep if it ever hits Switch.
I’m going with the VC
@GeeEmm No point asking Nintendo to do that, Snowboard Kids has nothing to do with them. Racjin made the games, Altus publishing them.
@Petraplexity Apart from undocked where it be 720p lol.
@GrailUK They can't do that, because it would make the game better than Steep. Ubi can't have that.
I never played 1080 back in the day because SSX3 had all my snowboarding needs covered. Seriously, that game is amazing. I still play it sometimes and would love a revival. But since that seems about as likely as a Babylon 5 reboot, I'll settle for a new 1080.
@Ryu_Niiyama They could call it 1080: Steep. Ima genus guffaw!
N64 classic.
@10-zx That was my favourite tune too!
1080 Avalanche on the Gamecube was so good, i hope they revive the series
Awesome. I preferred this to SSX.
A new 1080? Yes please, especially if it’s a racer with procedurally generated weather, hazards and obstacles. And lots of customisation.
@Anti-Matter But this isn't confirmation of anything. You are mistaking fact for speculation.
@GrailUK Genus Guffaw? New to me. Aren't you of the Homo genus?
I’ve been saying for ages a triple pack of ExciteBike, 1080 and Waverace in the same universe (same island perhaps) with shared history etc and even overlapping tracks would be ducking sweet. Then imagine a Pilotwings expansion pack next year and when racing down the slopes you can see people hangliding over the top etc. Make it happen.
@HappyMaskedGuy BANANAS!!!
Retro's mystery title...personally I hope its something else.
They’ve filed Eternal Darkness a couple of times in recent years and it has led to nothing.
I would love a new game in the series though! It seems stupid they didn’t make one with the Balance Board
@GrailUK
What do you like about it?
@10-zx It was a nice tempo to play the game to. Trippy!
@GrailUK
Yes.
@GrailUK The Don't Stop chorus had a Janes Addiction vibe to it.
