Shovel Knight: King Of Cards - 2018

This campaign expansion of the Shovel Knight saga enables you to strap on the opulent boots of boss-turned-playable-character King Knight and explore 30 new levels set across four different worlds, and with new enemy types and bosses. You can utilise Knight Knight's patented Shoulder Bash, as well as collecting new armour and weapons. Oh, and there's a new titular card-based mini-game, adding a new dimension to an already ultra-addictive formula.

Inside - 2018

We'll warn you now, Inside will break you. Not because it's particularly challenging (it is, in its own way, with myriad environmental puzzles), but because it's a melancholic story that grab you by the heartstrings until you well up with tears. Playdead's poignant follow up to Limbo mixes platforming, stealth and clever mind-control puzzles that will make you think, then probably cry afterwards. A short experience, but one you simply need to endure.

Terraria - 2018

While initially slated for a late 2017 release window, it looks like the Nintendo Switch port of Terraria will now be making its way to the platform sometime in 2018. There's no denying the frustration of the delay, but when it does arrive, Terraria will be a perfect fit for the hybrid machine. It's procedurally-generated 2D world is all about hunting for resources, crafting, and building in a wild world that's as dangerous as it is beautiful. It's already worked really well on 3DS and PS Vita, so we're sure Switch's handheld nature will blend perfectly with its Minecraft-style formula.

Layers Of Fear: Legacy - 2018

Nintendo Switch doesn't have too many pure horror games to its name at the moment, but that's about to change in 2018 with the potential arrival of Outlast, Outlast II and an updated version of Layers Of Fear. The Legacy version brings the Layers Of Fear experience in full, where you'll play a disturbed painter who's fighting a nasty case of creative block while gradually losing his mind. The layout of the house you explore will change around you, while paintings bleed on the walls and jump scares attempt to shorten your lifespan.

Runbow - 2018

One of the best titles to appear on Wii U during its final years, Runbow is local multiplayer at its finest. The game tasks you with sprinting and double-jumping around a raft of 2D levels in order to reach a trophy at the top, making it a perfect fit for Switch's Joy-Cons and shared screen setup. The Nintendo Switch version will pack in all post-release content, so you can be sure this colourful indie will be assuming its ultimate form on Nintendo's latest home console.
