Moonlighter - Early 2018

What happens when you take a pixel art action-RPG, add some roguelike elements, throw in some shopkeeping duties and boot it through the crowdfunding machine of Kickstarter? Something that looks a lot like Moonlighter! In this game you'll lead a double life - in the day you run a shop, but at night you enter portals and explore classic Zelda-style dungeons with a roguelike setup and all manner of monsters to slay and loot. Think Stardew Valley with a dark alter ego and you're on the money.

Bridge Constructor Portal - Early 2018

We've seen plenty of oddball tag teams over the years, but few have raised our eyebrows as high as the union of Bridge Constructor and Portal. It's a strange combo, make no mistake, but it promises to be one rife for physics-defying engineering puzzles. Set in the Aperture Laboratories under the supervision of the artificial intelligence GLaDOS, you'll need to guide all manner of trucks from one chamber to another via the medium of blue and orange-tinged portals among other recognisable elements

AWAY: Journey To The Unexpected - Q1 2018

One of the best things about the indie scene is its penchant for surprising you with the strangest of premises and setups, which explains why AWAY: Journey To The Unexpected aims to offer a 'a feel good FPS' that arms you with a wooden stick and tasks you with exploring a colourful and charming world full of oddball characters and creatures. With a soundtrack by ultra-talented composer Kazuhiko Naruse, it promises to be one of the most peculiar indies of 2018.

Hollow Knight - Q1 2018

We're really excited for Hollow Knight here at Nintendo Life, especially after our insightful chat with one of its creators, and it's not hard to see why. It's a Tim Burton-esque 2D action-platformer with a big focus on juggling abilities as you explore the ruined depths of a once great city. With an almost old school cartoon aesthetic, Hollow Knight's Metroidvania world promises to be one you'll definitely want to navigate high and low in search of its myriad secrets and strange NPCs.

Flipping Death - Q1 2018

Coming from the same studio that gave us the excellent Stick It To The Man, Flipping Death takes that same 2D cut-out art style and sombrely explores the meaning of life and death. Just kidding, it's another tongue-in-cheek adventure filled with black humour, which helps considering you're having to take on the duties of the Grim Reaper while he's on holiday. Okay, it's skirting copyright infringement with the late Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld saga, but it still promises to be an inventive and memorable way to make a laughing stock of Death.
