Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will give you the chance to indulge your sense of style via a series of costumes, weapons and even hairstyles, and a short video has been released which shows off some of these changes.
Lead character Miriam is shown changing elements of her outfit and experimenting with a range of weapons, as well as a new haircut.
Here's what IGA himself had to say:
All the weapons you see here are new additions. There's a fire sword, a two-handed axe, and a few other kinds of weapons. There's even a maid headband that's similar to the kind you might see in Akihabara.
We haven't shown this before today—we can actually change hairstyles and scarves, too. Miriam looks so different when her hairstyle changes. This new one looks very fierce!
In addition, we included a look at three Bunny items—a headband, a scarf, and some boots. I think it's a very stylish look, personally...
This system is another way to personalize the game, and I hope you have fun with it.
We also have a new enemy to share: the Giant Rat. When I imagine medieval Europe, I can't help but think of rats. That might be a stereotype, but we definitely had to have a rat enemy.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will hit Switch alongside other systems next year.

Is this still a thing?
I really love the color scheme of this game.
That's lovely, but GET ON WITH MAKING THE GAME!
Add the change of clothes later.
@Bunkerneath You really think the game isn't being worked on? They'll share whatever progress they've made when they're ready to.
Super-snappy animation that has to look good from a few certain angles. And they still go for highly detailed 3D models.
Making computers faster was a mistake.
@Pod I personally think the 3D models, animations and visual style look great.
This is the first I have seen and I may place a preorder if or when available in store
@SaKo
I like to complain, but I think it looks pretty good too. I'm questioning whether it could maybe look ever cooler and be a lot cheaper to produce as well in 2D, but that might also be a question of preference.
@Pod Smooth 2D animation is insanely expensive/time consuming, especially if the character designs are detailed. I think the developers made a good call using 3D models instead. Usually people hate it when something is made in 3D rather than hand drawn because it looks worse, but I think it looks really good in this game's case.
As long as they don't oversexualize Miriam I am fine with the costumes. I see her as Shanoa's long lost sister.
Well, at least it's still going.
id prefer to be able to change Miriam completely for some other character
@SaKo I'm saying that they should finish the game, instead of worrying about different clothes and hair styles, leave those for patches later. Just get on with creating the actual game
@SaKo
That's why I mentioned the snappiness of the animation. If they're going to do the same kind of thing that 2D is great for in 3D, with the strong poses that are held for several frames, and animations that are seen mostly from just one angle, you sometimes end up doing a lot of exhauting work on rigging and skinning of your 3D characters, only to NOT have them look as strong as they would in 2D.
I do think this looks reasonably good, but until I actually see the finished product, I will question the choice of 3D. Vanilla Ware's games are 2D, and they employ a style that isn't frame-by-frame, but still looks quite fetching on a shoe-string budget.
Miriam is such a non fantasy heroine name.
Miriam is like an old woman who works in a tea room.
Might as well have gone with Ethel.
This game is still a thing?
@Pod I think part of the logic is that 3d models can be more easily modified and customised going forwards. So - for instance - they can easily change Miriam's clothing without having to completely rework her model and redraw every frame of every animation (including animations that might rarely if ever be seen).
It also means that cinematics can use the existing assets in a dynamic way - which may have been a factor in the decision.
Personally I prefer high quality 2d sprite art but either way the game looks like it'll be great.
@StuTwo
Sure, I totally get why developers prefer 3D in general, I'm a 3D graphics guy myself. Makes a lot of things easier.
Still excited for this, all the updates give me my recommended amout of hype.
Game must be pretty complete for them to have time for this. Good to know, looks like it's release next year is still eminent.
I hope they fixed her running animation. Almost as bad as Harvest Moon: Light of Hope.
Are these “Is this still a thing?” comments still a thing? 😲
Good, good. Take your time to make it swell, Iga.
Sweet. I was rather ambivalent about this title before, but the more I see of this game, the more intriguing it becomes. I'll probably pick this up when it releases.
@Dezzy Ethel in the tearoom was once a hot young 20 year old who may have been tough as nails a century ago We're looking into Miram's gothic fantasy past when she was young and breaking rules. NOW she's in the tearoom retelling her story
Also she may or may not be immortal depending on how the story ends....so there's that....
Edit: On second thought I really hope I don't have to imagine Ethel in "3 bunny items"....
I'm on something of a Castlevania marathon at the moment having just finished my personal favourite Super Castlevania IV, now playing the original and the fantastic Doom mod Simon's Destiny. Then I'll polish off the 8 bit games before tackling the slightly disappointing Bloodlines and downright poor Dracula X, I finally bought Rondo of Blood which seems amazing from the first level but I'll save that for later.
So it's pretty obvious that this is right up my street and is clearly descended from Symphony of the Night. This game looks and sounds great, yeah I'd prefer 2D sprites instead of 3D but I'm just picky, really can't wait for this
Okay, customization, sounds cool, but the one question REALLY burning in my mind is: "will it also come with a boob slider?"
Costumes? Hairstyles? Who are we kidding, we're all just going to choose the one that accentuates her breasts the most (and hopefully gives us a nice +atk buff)
My previous comment is obviously a joke. I'm actually so feminist that I treat all women as if they were equal to men
Aaaaand here come the loot boxes with micro transactions
