Earlier this year we reported on Liam Robertson's excellent investigation into Factor 5's WeFly - basically Pilotwings for Wii - which went into detail about the game's development and its subsequent cancellation.
Robertson is back with another neat exclusive - a hitherto unseen trailer for the game which was only distributed internally at Factor 5.
The game bears a strong resemblance to Pilotwings Resort on 3DS, and it's a real shame that we never got to play it. What do you make of this surprisingly polished footage? Would you have played this one on your Wii?

Confirmed: Trailer music by Factor 5's legendary composer Chris Huelsbeck (of "Turrican" fame among many others).
You would think we’ll see Pilotwings on the Switch this time around. Imagine using Splatoon like controls to fly a plane or jet pack.
This looks a lot better then Pilotwings Resort (3DS).
It was pretty stupid of Nintendo to turn down what would've been a great revival only to release a cheap game that would end up damaging the franchise a few years later.
I'm more bothered by the Rogue Squadron Wii port that we never got
@Incognito_D that was never likely to happen, you know, since Rouge Squadron (GC) - while great - never sold well enough AND the Wii possessing full-fat GC backwards compatibility.
Never been a fan of the Pilotwings series, but it is always cool to see unreleased/never before seen games.
A sort of (extremely good) Pilotwings did exist via Wii Sports Resort - if my mind isn't playing tricks on me.
Pilotwings Resort is actually a very good game. It's often bashed for its "lack of content", as there's only one island. But the island is huge and more importantly there's a ton of missions to complete on it !
I'd love to get Pilotwings on Switch. Don't know why Nintendo is looking down on this great IP.
@Tibob I totally agree with you. Pilotwings on 3DS is a favourite 3DS game of mine. Getting perfect score on every mission was hard, really hard. Especially that last fast plane mission! The bashing it got was very harsh, the game has a lot of content you just need to be good at it. Plus it looks pretty awesome with 3D up to the max.
Pilotwings on Switch, yes please!!
Love that cockpit view. Even at this early state, it seems it could be something special
@Pazuzu666
@Pazuzu666 it was finished but never released. There's a gameplay trailer kicking about on Youtube
It's funny to look back on all of the Wii games that had a very "zen meditation" feel to them... not sure if that is due to the era or the demographic of the console...
Also, where is the cannon mode?
This would have been awesome! So sad!
From what I understand, Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht is very interested in resurrecting the Rogue Leaders game and bringing it to the Switch, saying that most of the obstacles for that would be out of the way now. Of course, that doesn't mean that anyone else is interested, but I like to think that Nintendo has been playing nicer lately. We'll see. If it does happen, maybe there'd even be hope for this game.
Rogue Squadron <3
@EmirParkreiner Totally agree. I have no idea what Nintendo were thinking releasing Pilotwings Resort. Such a let down and was basically just a glorified demo. Talk about how to ruin your own franchise!
