The Advance Wars franchise is fondly regarded by plenty of GBA / DS era gamers, but it's been quiet for a good number of years. Understandably that's led to plenty of attention for TINY METAL, a title that isn't shy about trying to assume the crown for turn-based strategy warfare.
It's out this week in Japan (and seemingly everywhere) priced at US$24.99 / €24.99 / £22.99, and ahead of its launch there's a snazzy new video that showcases its feature and content; it's looking rather tasty to us.
We have a chat with game director Hiroaki Yura going live this week, while naturally we're playing through it for review. Is this on your Switch eShop wishlist?

This and Wargroove are going to fill that Advance Wars void quite nicely, can't wait to play this one.
Wait, what, this week? I guess one more game to play isn't going to hurt.....2017=So many games!!
@Spoony_Tech 2017 is the gift that keeps on giving for switch owners 😃
Yeah I watched a nice hour footage yesterday on YouTube. The game looks solid but has a looooot more story and text than all advance wars games combined.
Your mileage may vary on that but I'm looking forward to it.
Updated the text. It's deffo out 21st December in Japan and that also seems to be the case for Europe and NA, BUT it's not yet showing on the eShop as 'coming soon'. Fingers crossed the dev has it right and it does arrive this week.
Look s good to me!
I sure hope this is good. Advance Wars is, by specific insider accounts, truly dead and buried for the foreseeable future, so if this strikes out then it's going to be an even longer wait for Wargroove to pick up where it left off.
No in game video though
@ThomasBW84 That was my worry for Zen pinball as it never showed in the coming soon section. Hope it does come out.
@mattmayatt There was plenty of in game video.
@Spoony_Tech It's already out. It's called Pinball FX3 for some reason.
Noticed it being out on the Australian eShop a few hours ago. It's pretty pricey being $37.95 so I didn't impulse buy it. Would like some reviews/opinions before making up my mind.
Lots of good memories playing Advance Wars with buddies years ago.
This looks good so far and I'm hoping this will be a good successor to re-spur that interest! Really miss those strategic antics.
Ok, this has my attention. I dearly miss Advance Wars. Looking forward to a review for this.
This looks very good. I'll wait for the review.....although that review for Poly Bridge kind of burnt me.
£22.99 is very expensive for a digital only game. I will be skipping this until 2018 for sure. A shame because my advance wars itch is pretty itchy.
It's so ugly. If only the game was styled like some of the art work.
Don’t leave us, Thomas! 😭 I already miss the articles and the new guy is trying to trick us with the beard... 😛
I want this and Wargroove.
You I love the indies and I have purchased a lot, A LOT; of them on the Switch BUT I hope Nintendo has big third party support on 2018 as well cause I'm getting desperate.
I'm so looking forward to this one!Was going to buy it on the PS4 but it belongs on a Nintendo Switch (like every other game) so the Switch it is....please don't be rubbish..
Cool... For some reason I thought this was going to be 19.99
I spent my $60 this month on XenoBlade2, and next 4 month is MonsterHunter world. DB FighterZ, NinoKuni2 and Yakuza6 in a row. Just need to wait there is no AAA game out or it drops to $14.
Will buy! Where is Wargroove?
Looks very good! I'm surprised they actually hit their 2017 release window. Can't wait to play it, though I might wait a bit for reviews since $25 is quite a commitment.
Oh wow it's out?! I had no idea it was coming out this week, was there any advance notice?
Will probably pick this up this weekend. It might be strong enough to pull me away from Xenoblade for a bit.
Though if I am honest, I am much more looking forward to Wargroove for that Advance Wars experience, this certainly looks decent.
@Exy Which accounts? I have heard there is still some interest in the series, but that they are more focused on Fire Emblem for the moment.
Not sure about the 3d graphics... I prefer 2d for strategy games like this. In Advance War I always disabled the animations, so the graphics doesn't even matter. Some of the matches lasted a few hours, animations only causes delay and annoyances.
I really want this, but...
I don't think i'll pick up something like this this or Romancing Saga 2 before i'm done with Xenoblade 2, i simply wouldn't have enough time to play them without taking a long break from Xenoblade.
So, only RXN -Raijin- and Pulstar for me this week. (Because yes, there is always time for shoot'em ups.)
