In recent weeks we've seen a glut of new Switch eShop titles arrive earlier than the standard download update. With the retail scene now backing off until next year the burden falls on download-only games - though there are less titles making their mark early this time around, those that do arrive today have plenty of appeal of their own.
Both of these games arrive in Europe and North America today, so let's get to it.
Nine Parchments (Frozenbyte) - £17.99 / $19.99USD
A game that's been generating a decent amount of buzz, especially with Nintendo giving it a push in a Nindie Showcase. With an isometric view it incorporates shooting and melee combat with wizards, and as you'd expect from Frozenbyte there are RPG elements thrown in. It also supports local and online co-op for up to four players - in fact, that's a focus - with a recent demo giving us all a taste.
Caveman Warriors (JanduSoft) - £11.69 / $12.99USD
A colourful brawler with four different characters (and local multiplayer for as many players); it looks rather slick and promises plenty of challenge. That's pretty much the lowdown on this one, and it seems to have some smart ideas to keep things interesting.
Those are the early arrivals this week, with the confirmed line-up for the normal Thursday update already looking rather packed. Will you be grabbing Nine Parchments or Caveman Warriors for your Switch?

both are very tempting
but...
so many games so so many
Not my scene but the more games the better!
Pretty interested in Nine Parchments, it looks like it could be fun multiplayer. Not really interested in Caveman Warriors though.
Sadly Caveman Warriors has such an unappealing visual style ( to me at least) that I can't get interested in it.
The demo for Nine Parchments as single player was pretty meh. Maybe it's way more fun with more people.
I haven't tried the Nine Parchments demo yet so I'm not sure if it's one to add to the wishlist or not. I noticed some NL members talk positively about it in the forum though. I like the look of Caveman Warriors but not a chance I'd buy it before reading a review. It could be great but it could also be really bad, it's one of those. Plus the focus seems to be on co-op, if it isn't as much fun in single player then it's not for me.
With The Sexy Brutale, Slain - Back from Hell, Gunbird and Top Hunter out this week, I've got more than enough to purchase already. Not forgetting Dimension Drive too if it reviews well.
Just to add, these mid week updates are great. We're kind of just taking them for granted but that's a sign of a successful console. Does the PS4 or One have mid week store updates?
Played 9 parchments demo... I would have bought it if they didn't released a demo.
I thought it's a Diablo clone, but it is not. The characters are too goody-goody for their own good. Camera cannot rotate the scene, you are stuck from one perspective. Story is lame... your goal is to look for the 9 parchments that flew out from Gandalf's window.
Switch needs some Diablo 3.
9 Parchments is a wishlist item. Just so much that I haven't touched that I cannot justify spending money
Everyone talks up diablo 3 but after a failed attempt on PS3 to get into it, I tried again on PS4. Beat main story 1 time and was insanely bored whole time. Diablo 2 was a different game. 3 was more like the gauntlet series. This looks like that too. An arcade style rpg-lite co-op game that is only truly fun in local co-op. That’s why I will be getting it. Fun to play with family. And if it’s up to the standards of the trine series, it is a decent A-/B+ game.
Not into the animation style in CW.
@gcunit Same. It has that flash game marionette "animation" that CAN be done well on occasion. Just not this time. You can especially tell when they jump.
Will be buying both.
@ZeldaToThePast I've played the heck out of that game, but I also hate it and only play it to play with my friends. Compared to the diablo 2, the 3rd installment kind of sucks in my opinion. However I'm sure some people would pick it up. I'm just waiting for Diablo 4 or world of diablo to come along at this point. Definitely one port I would skip lol.
Both look interesting, but waiting for Phanton Breaker and Plague Road to play this weekend
@dougphisig I agree with you, D2 was definitely my favorite, but I will say that D3 also got much better with time. Patches and the expansion did wonders for the game. If the Switch version brought with it local co-op, I would probably double dip (I have it for PC, no local co-op).
I am interested in Nine Parchments. Action RPGs are one of the few genres my Wife actually likes to play with me, so hopefully it turns out well.
Looks like fantastic games, might have to wait til I have some spare cash though as I will be getting broke once the holiday shopping begins.
Tried the Nine Parchments demo with the kids last night. Seems like a solid game. Won't be getting it any time soon but certainly one to keep an eye on
Loved, loved, LOVED the 9 parchments demo.
We had a ton of fun playing it and have been looking forward to today ever since.
Cannot wait to download!
Since 9 Parchments has online co-op I am fairly interested in it. I need to try the demo to see if I like the gameplay because something about the art style is throwing me off, maybe it looks better in motion.
i LOVE games like 9 parchments so i will try the demo on break. i have enough free eshop credit from amazon to get both games for free i think
@ZeldaToThePast I second this!
I hope the games find the right audience. I have too much on my plate (Thimbleweed Park, 100%'ing Odyssey, Skyrim, Doom, and Golf Story) to really give either of these a go. I would like to say "maybe someday," but I sincerely doubt it. The quality/quantity of Switch titles is escalating, and I can't keep up!
I'm already buying Gunbird, Dimension Drive and Phantom Breaker this week, that's enough.
Like look of caveman warriors game but local play only is a little ugh.
Love nine parcent demo and fact got online is big yes!
I'm very interested in Caveman Warriors based solely on the trailer and price, but I'm patiently awaiting the review before I pull the trigger.
Ok wow, I’ve blown my game budget to bits lately. I never came close even once last gen
Caveman Warriors looked terrible - the animation hurt my eyes so much I had to stop the video.
Nine Parchments looked pretty cool, but too much going on - does every character and creature need a health-bar always showing?
Does anyone know if you can play Nine Parchments with both local & online coop simultaneously? As in, playing in a team that consists of both local & online players?
I'm definitely buying nine parchments soon. Beautiful game with a lot of fun:)
Caveman Warriors team should have used a pixel style if they couldn’t do full animation. this marionette stuff is strictly for the boids
Nine Parchments for me. I didn't know what to think from the name, but after playing the demo for a while, I'm hooked. It was a blast to play, and how it's in the same universe as Trine is pretty awesome.
Sorry but with all the choice available now I'm getting pickier and these two do nowt for me.
@dougphisig I'd be a sucker who would triple dip, ha ha. Just having it on the go sounds good to me. This would definitely sell pretty well if ported/redone right. But I understand where you are coming from, waiting for more of the Diablo universe. I'm with you there also.
