My Video game room is Very Small (I use Front Living Room to play my games on TV)
But i have a lot of Games (90++ games) displayed tidily inside my book shelf.

I’m jealous. His couches look really comfy to sit down and play.

But why?

His pronunciation of Sega got on my nerves. The opening of Sonic should be ingrained in every gamer's memory.

I've followed the Last Gamer on YouTube for a while now. I believe he's had the world record for a while, lost it and then got it back haha. The game room is like a museum really. It's pretty incredible and I wonder if he would ever consider opening it up to the public if he could hire security to watch it. His kids can literally play anything at any time.

Those chairs look way too close to the TVs. Also, how do they play multiplayer? He mentions playing with friends but there is a 1-person chair for every screen.

This is so cool but at the end of the day, too much of a good thing takes away the magic of being able to fully enjoy it. Also...I'm jealous of a lot of this...but not jealous about his undoubtedly large pile of debt.

I would rather have a small selection of games I love rather than a huge collection of games I'll never play.

Anyone who has set up a dedicated Commodore corner in his game room, has earned my respect. Home computers were a ton of fun and in quite a few cases even challenged consoles were it concerned conversions, sound and graphics, especially during the Amiga days.

That room in the first video has a great design: it's clean, and neat and gives the systems themselves all the attention. It doesn't look so much like a man cave or game basement, like so many of those other, often crowded game rooms, do. I'm really liking those customized kitchen cabinets with the LED lights: very nicely done. It's subtle, yet still makes all the consoles stand out quite nicely.

The second room looks more like a game shop, and although it's admirable that he has been able to collect that much (I don't do jealousy), for me personally, it's just too much. And many of us will never even have that much space to spare, even if we would have the time or the money to collect that much. On second thought: if we would have the money for that, we'd probably also have a bigger house...

But the thing with such humongous collections is, that you're never gonna play all those games, and the cost for some of them must have been astronomical. With collectors, it's often more about the hunt for that complete collection, than actually about playing all the games, because they also buy/collect the bad games, otherwise their collection wouldn't be complete.

Even if I would have had all these systems, I'd still only buy the good games for it, that I would actually like to play, so maybe anywhere between a 50 to a 100, or 200 games at most per system, provided a system even had that many games, obviously.

Anyways, still fun and interesting to watch. If I ever win the lottery, or get that perfect assignment or job, then I might make a slightly smaller copy of that first room... (seeing as I don't even have a third of all those consoles)

Life goals.

If I ever own a similar room, I rather it be full of coin-up arcade machines.

I loooved the days of going to an arcade joint after school. And playing multiplayer games with mah buddies.

But owning all the consoles doesn't seem like something I'll ever want... unless it is to use it as an argument in a console war thread ("I own all consoles, so you can't call me a fanboy! Ha-haaaah!)

I have to be approaching the 750 physical game mark about now. I hit 500 a while back. One day I'll hit 1000. And to me that's absolutely massive. It'll probably have taken me 10 years to amass that many games. I can't imagine how long it would take to build up 17,000. Especially when those older games are more expensive (at least, they are if you get them in good condition with boxes and manuals).

This is why I prefer only collecting games from the 6th generation onwards. You don't have to deal with the cardboard cases that crush and you don't have to deal with cartridges that need batteries and stuff. Or exhorbitant prices (not as bad anyways). I basically just collect Nintendo (so GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Switch, DS and 3DS) but I also have PS4, PSVR, Vita and Xbox One (and a few dozen Xbox 360 games that are backward compatible). I don't really see myself as a collector for the other consoles though. I mean, I keep all the games and I have a nice collection, but I don't see myself as a "collector" for PS/Xbox.

Now that I've scrolled through that second video for a bit, I do have one tiny niggle, albeit a personal one: I don't mind and can respect an accent (probably got one myself as a Dutch-ified Californian), but mispronunciation? Not so much...

I mean: See-Gah Dreamcast? That borders on blasphemy...

Obviously, the only correct way to say it is: "Say-Gah!!!". All you have to do is start up any random Sega Genesis game to hear that being said loud and clear.

@JubilifeRival I don't think an accent accounts for that butchering of the brand name. I know plenty people from all kinds of regions around the world, and they all pronounce it in their own accent, but it still sounds like Say-Gah, and not See-Gah...

@Lost_Hope Well, no offense, but that sounds completely wrong. And that video you linked to, is just a commercial, so that isn't necessarily leading in how the name should be pronounced. Start up any random Genesis/Megadrive game and you'll clearly hear "Say-Gah".

The name Sega is an abbreviation of "Service Games", and nowhere in that name is there an "ee" sound. Other words with a similar structure and a single e are also often pronounced as "ay", so it seems to me that this is the most natural way of pronouncing it, no matter where you're from. (and Joel does seem to partially agree, since he does pronounce the name of his Sony Wega TV correctly, which for all intents and purposes, is pronounced in a similar way)

I'm originally from the States, but I live in the Netherlands now, and have friends all over Europe. Both in the States and in Europe, the pronunciation is the same. And from what original commercials I've seen coming out of Japan, and the Japanese games I've played, I can also confirm that they too pronounce it the same way. That should tell you something...

All this kind of reminds me of a certain other YouTuber, who's name I can't remember, who had a completely different but equally strange way of pronouncing it: he always said "Seg-Gah", which (even though See-Gah already sounds quite off) might actually steal the crown for worst pronunciation of the two...

So again: no offense, but I'll just stick with what my ears tell me...

Never had a passion for collecting. When you're dead and in the ground and their is time for self reflection you'd probably find there was better use of your time.

God, I envy this guy's Saturn and Dreamcast collection. Even though the vast majority of them are Japanese Imports, they would be awesome to have, especially if there a complete set.

@JaxonH We have around the same amount: 453 DS, 121 3DS, 86 Wii, 37 Wii U, 2 PC plus like 40 PS3 and around 20 PS4 (son's).

Add to that around 250 digital games (mostly 3DS and PC games).

I've watched his videos for a while now and I can confirm, I am only ever so slightly jealous... to the point of sobbing that I could never have such luxury.

But as one or two others have said, he would never have time to play all the games though I know he knows a lot about almost all the games he has.

As for how he affords it, he says hard work but I say he's loaded. He has to be to pay for not just the constant games he gets but the new builds, all the TVs, the furniture, the cinema room and just running that place.

That is pure dedication right there. Bless him

Well I feel insignificant. Well the gamer part does.

Although in a twist of fate I'm actually in a drawdown at the moment and am selling off all the "chaff" and keeping only the stuff I truly enjoy or feel a strong connection to. Over time, I felt I was being buried by my games constantly following release dates, ensuring I grab limited editions, being scared of opening and depreciating their values (that one's a problem still) and knowing I may never play half.

Entering into a relationship also had an impact in how I view life priorities.

Still, if it makes this guy happy then total respect to him.

I kinda feel bad that my ZX Spectrum sits in its box in the cupboard, year in year out. 😕

Multi-Millionaire buys everything, this is just boring. I used to watch his channel until i realised he was minted and just buys entire collections in one go. There is no searching, no feel of passion, just instantly gaining collections.

@ThanosReXXX The Japanese pronounce SEGA as seh-gah which is similar to how they pronounce Segata Sanshiro's name (seh-gah-tah).

Of course, Westerners pronounce it as either Sey-gah or See-gah in either the games or in adverts. But me personally? I'm pronouncing SEGA as the Japanese do: SEH-GAH

BTW, This whole issue of how to pronounce SEGA is quite a similar thing to how the English pronounce Mario (they say it like this: Marry-o instead of Mah-rio as someone that speaks Italian or Spanish would say it). And just like with SEGA, the Brits will claim that the game themselves say "Marry-o" and not Mah-rio. But again, that's because English speakers in the games and adverts are trying to say Mario the only way they can. But ask an Italian or Spanish speaking person to say Mario and it sounds like this: Mah-rio.

Having hundreds of games (or more) is easy.
Having time, energy, and stability enough in life to get to play them is what’s truly valuable.

I’d be more impressed with a collection of 1700 games all played through to completion than one of 17,000 left unfinished (theoretically).

@ThanosReXXX Oh, definitely not saying you're wrong; it's always been "Say-gah" in the USA!
That was an advert for the old theme park Sega used to run in Sydney, official stuff for us Aussies!

In addition, the Master System held a lot more clout for SEGA than the consoles that followed it down here due to it being incredibly aggressively priced.
The system lacked the iconic startup sound, so in a world without the internet we called it "See-gah" back then and that's what stuck!

As @GC-161 also kindly points out, neither of these takes match the Japanese pronunciation, and on top of that the Megadrive's atrocious sound quality doesn't do that particularly famous voice byte any favours in determining the actual pronunciation; if you go in expecting to hear it sounding one way, that's what you hear!

Of course later systems with better audio would make clear the original intent, but it's an interesting little piece of historical gaming trivia when looking back at a simpler time where other countries seemed like other planets for all of us stuck down on the bottom half of the earth

Love this guys stuff. I don't really care how he got his collection I respect it for what it is. It's obvious from other videos he loves to play and plays a lot of games from a wide variety of generations and genres. I'm just happy that I get to glimpse a small slice of what heaven could actually be like lol!

@Enigk That apparently comes from how SEGA was pronounced in Australian TV commercials in the 80s and 90s. It's how all Australians pronounce SEGA.

Of course if you want to be literal, English speakers get it wrong too. It should be pronounced as two simply syllables - SE and then GA, not SAY-GA. It's a Japanese company now.

Other than that. for me, and logically speaking, how the company itself pronounces the name should be leading, and as such, it is Say-Gah. No if's, and's or but's about it.

@Lost_Hope Yeah, I could see that happening, so now it's actually become a bit more understandable. Australians having used that pronunciation for so long during the 8 bit days probably wouldn't change how they say it overnight when they'd all of a sudden hear the name being pronounced differently at the start of a 16 bit game.

Come to think of it, that would probably have sounded just as strange to you, as "See-Gah" is to me...

Guess that in the end, personal experience also plays a part in all that.

SEGA of Japan pronounces it SEH-GAH on all their adverts. SEGA developers also say SEH-GAH in interviews.

SEGA of America/Europe people pronounces it as an English person would. Thay is, as only they can say the name. Thus why they say "say-gah"

I rather go with how SEGA of Japan say it.

If he hasn't played all of them I'm not impressed. After a point it is just hording. Beautiful room though.

For retro game and console reviews, I always used to watch Classic Game Room and Lord Karnage, for all kinds of classic reviews, and the 8 Bit Guy is another good one, as well as MetalJesusRocks, although the 8 Bit Guy is more about the hardware.

@GC-161 That's why I'm in the middle, as I already explained in an earlier comment: I'm American, so I have that back story, but living in Europe has granted me access to all kinds of accents and pronunciations.

I think we actually mean the same thing, but pronouncing something in text alone is of course always harder to get across, so, Seh-Ga might be sounding the same as Say-Gah after all, even if it doesn't read the same. For me, it sounds like something in between those two phonetically written words, if that makes any sense to you. It's not quite the American "say", but it's also not sounding like a word as "meh" or "yeah".

I've been mulling it over a bit more, and the only real life example of a word that I can come up with that sounds the same, is an Indonesian dish/snack that is called Sateh Babi, which is also pronounced "Satay", when spoken out, even though you write it as eh.

Been watching this guys videos for a while now, although he has more money than most its still fun to see what can be achieved if money isn't a limiting factor. Watching him rip his house to bits and rebuild is pretty fun and to the guy who said they'd rather have an arcade, he has an arcade room too. Also check out arcade impossible for a good arcade YouTube series, they don't do much these days but there are a stack of historic videos to watch.

@Davidiam007 Yeah, it is a nice channel indeed. He has this way of taking you on the journey with him, has a relaxing voice and he talks about all these old systems with genuine enthusiasm. I found it to be quite entertaining and pleasant to watch.

@moroboshi @samuelvictor @ThanosReXXX @RainbowGazelle I can confirm the Aussies says Seeega, because me and my Australian friends who moved to the UK in the 90’s used to argue about it every time we gamed, which was a lot. And they wouldn’t let it slide.

We also used to argue about which was better, marmite or vegemite.

My friends used to mock us because the UK was a couple months behind Australia. Now that I think about it, my Australian friends must have had the hump about being forced to move to the UK because in their minds everything was better in Australia, or maybe it’s an Aussie thing.
