Stardew Valley was one of the most eagerly anticipated Switch eShop releases this year; it delighted plenty of gamers and rose up the charts. It wasn't quite a perfect port, despite the game's excellence, and so a patch that's now rolled out is very welcome indeed.
As previously reported the update adds support for the Capture button's video capabilities, but it also tackles a range of bugs and issues. The main fixes relate to sound, faster save times and rumble in portable mode; the full changelog is below.
- Players should see a significant improvement on save times! Also, the saving screen is now animated.
- The new video recording feature is now supported!
- When a controller connects or disconnects, the Controller Support Applet now appears to ask which controller you want to use to play the game, instead of silently switching to the new controller.
- The game now detects Simplified / Traditional Chinese environments on first start up and defaults to the Simplified Chinese localisation instead of English.
- Fixed issue that created the unintended ability to skip saving at night with a well-timed button press.
- Fixed an issue causing the player character (and sometimes important NPCs) to appear off-screen during certain cutscenes.
- Fixed a temporary soft lock that occurred when the player pressed A and B together while eating or drinking an item.
- Fixed a way for players to temporarily lose access to essential tools via the chest interface’s organize button.
- Fixed the Wizard’s slay monster quest sometimes asking you to kill 0 monsters.
- Fixed a crash that sometimes occurred while sleeping (before saving) if any essential tools were not in your inventory at the time.
- Fixed the wrong tooltips sometimes appearing on the bundle interface in the Community Center area.
- Fixed the inability of players to drop items without deleting them when using the cursor mode that snaps to UI elements.
- Morning music is no longer looped endlessly, and now fades out during the day as it should.
- Fixed a crash that occurred when opening the journal with no quests.
- Fixed occasional inability to select certain items in the crafting menu.
- Fixed a crash that occurred when pressing the ‘-‘ button when playing a minigame at the Saloon.
- Fixed button controls for the Prairie King minigame shooting in the wrong direction.
- Fixed occasional left channel audio crackling
- Fixed lack of vibration in handheld mode
Hopefully that'll all do the job - if you have the game let us know whether you're noticing much of a difference following the update.

I quite liked the wizard's quest to slay zero monster, I thought it was a joke... Ah well lol. Aside from this, pleased to see the audio crackling fixed, that was a pain!
yay! play this every day so cant wait to be able to save quicker that was a real chore
Ive experienced several of these bugs. Mostly the the crash on save if certain tools were missing. I’d store non essential tools, make food in the kitchen then hit the mine. Make tons of riches then it would crash on save. Turned out the mix of missing tools and a gap in a storage chest caused by using the kitchen caused it. It was quite frustrating. Glad they fixed it.
I like this game but it got left behind by all my other games xD
Maybe I’ll give this game another go now. I ran into a couple bugs while playing and the game had a lot of trouble holding my interest.
@Kalmaro I stopped playing it only for Mario Odyssey. Now that it is finished (not 100% to be clear) I went back to my farm.
Wow, that's a gigantic update.
@NewAdvent It's coming early 2018 for PC. They announced that weeks ago.
@setezerocinco Well I got Odyssey, then got skyrim and xenoblade I found out is this week so...
@Joffy haha I'm glad I'm not alone but I actually thought it might have been a riddle if not a joke.
@Kalmaro Stardew is a game to come and go. Yesterday arrived my L.A. Noire and I will have to give it attention and let my farm for a few days again.
The sound bug was the only one I encountered so I am so glad that is being fixed.
Great news, I did have a couple of these bugs and they were irritating flaws in an otherwise superlative experiemce. My whole family is still playing SDV constantly, so this will help a lot.
Even though I already put over a hundred hours into this game on Xbox I am tempted to double dip since the Switch is where I prefer to play my indie games. If they released an update that had a fair amount of new content I would consider taking the plunge because this really is an absolute gem of a game, it is truly a product made with love.
Good to see they're actively working on making the port as good as it can possibly be.
Never had audio issues, but those save times and some of those bugs were a bit annoying. Glad to see them fixed!
Just barely picked this up! Some welcome changes.
Very happy to see this update roll out. The audio issues happened way more than "occasional" for me so I'm happy that's been addressed. Everything else is gravy.
Not really sure what one would take a video of in Stardew valley but it’s not like it’s a negative. Keep the updates coming!
Great little game. I'm glad to see the developer fixing some of these issues. From the list above, I believe I had only encountered three of them.
Yay!! I’ve been waiting for the update!
@NewAdvent That happens, no need to blame yourself . The MP patch is coming later than PC, but with the new content ConcernedApe is working on at the moment. I expect something like May, but hopefully the update will be out sooner.
But does it finally add French to the 8 languages available? Of course not... My girlfriend is francophone only and is interested in this game but cannot play it because of language barrier...
I'm still coming to grips with the fact that I have to walk home every time I want to save. An inconvenience I failed to spot in any of the previous reviews I looked at.
It’ll be interesting to see what scenarios people choose to video capture and post.
This game is so addictive, I daren’t pick it back up just yet or I’ll get sucked back in and I’d rather wait until a quieter time.
I really like that you can play at your own pace, unlike Animal Crossing where you miss out if you don’t play every day.
I bought this on Switch and have yet to start it, glad the save issue has been addressed.
Audio crackling fixed? WOO!!!! happy dance
It's about time, they sent in this patch for approval over a week ago. Been playing the game anyway, but I'll be glad to update soon.
I'm very glad about the Audio issue getting fixed, it was impossible to play on docked mode. I'm curious as to when that "update" is coming that requires a new save. I'm not sure I'm ready to spend a couple hundred hours on it and have to start all over again...
I'm waiting for the polished (no bugs), complete (multiplayer) physical (retail) experience.
