Side-scrolling fighting fans have been well-served recently on Switch thanks to the excellent Wulverblade, but if you fancy a bit more walk-punch-walk-punch action then you'll be pleased to know that Hamster is bringing Robo Army to the Switch eShop this week.
Originally released in 1991, it's a very early Neo Geo release but boasts some attractive and detailed visuals. The gameplay is rather basic however, so we can imagine this will only appeal to those players who have a nostalgic connection to it, or those who simply have to own every single Neo Geo game on the Switch.
Are you looking forward to downloading this as your weekly dose of SNK magic, or will you be passing on it? Let us know with a comment.

with robots instead of humans fighting this looks like a game specifically made for germany back in the day lol
I'll be getting this.
@manu0 um, what?
Another Neo Geo game...stop the presses.
@Starbuster Germany has pretty infamous laws regarding violence against living persons in film and videogames. Probotector is a good example. Ie: all the people in Contra were replaced with robots because they were not fans of the mass killing run n gun gameplay of Contra.
Looks great! £6
@Alikan Really? Well robots are always the cooler option in my book.
Yes!! Finally!!
At this point it is really starting to seem like we are gonna get every Neo Geo title on the Switch eventually. I don't really mind, but it's not for me.
Not nostalgic and not collecting but I love a simple beatemup where the punching feels nice and kinetic like Streets of Rage 1, and this game does that for me.
Besides, beatemups are a precious genre now, it’s hard for me to write off even the mediocre entries
Looks fun. At least it's not ANOTHER fighting game or schmup. I'll probably nab this at some point.
Man, I love this one! Fun memories at local arcade playing this with friends. Those lovely metal-on-metal violence noises.
Nice, i was interested in this one for a long time.
Glad to see, was actually waiting for this one.
I wish Capcom would release some of their arcade brawlers and games like this.
Definite purchase. Really looking forward to trying this beat 'em up come Thursday and MUTATION NATION next week. Keep the Neo-Geo gems coming.
@Karlos88
Me too. But then they would have to figure out what to do with the money they would make! I don't understand them. I'm still waiting on the Disney Afternoon Collection for Switch. That one still boggles the mind why they wouldn't release it on a console that has a huge market for retro games, especially ones from Nintendo consoles.
This is definitely one of the better scrolling beat em ups on the Neo Geo, and I really loved playing it back in the day, and I still play it every now and then on my modded Wii or on my DSi XL.
I can very easily recommend this game to anyone even remotely interested in this type of beat em up.
@NEStalgia time to get that wallet out again, buster...
I'll be picking this up. Still waiting on double dragon and samsho V. And Samsho II as well to be honest. Actually just give me all the Samsho games.
This could easily become a Terminator vs. Robocop arcade game, it's too bad Hollywood never came to SNK for the rights. They even had a ED-209 looking robot in here.
Hm, never even heard of this one, and I may give it a shot since I got someone to run some old school 2P games with. Hell, we love playing good and bad beatemups cause either we're going to enjoy it, or we'll die laughing at it while playing lol
@Starbuster I agree, I like the robot look... but it took me YEARS to figure out that "Contra" and "Probotector" are the same game!
Here's a character comparison picture: https://www.destructoid.com//ul/user/1/192169-258171-contra5JPG-620x.jpg
@rdrunner1178
They could stand to make a ton of money!
Hopefully they'll sling them all in bundle like on other systems and it will work out cheaper. Just think Alien Vs Predator, Dinosaur's and Cadillac's, Armored Warriors, The Xmen, Final Fight, The Punisher, Captain Commando etc...maybe they struggle with some license issues?
I heard that data east are releasing a compilation, who knows maybe a Switch port?
We need the big boy beat em up's not these poor man copies (even though i have a soft spot for them, bless em)
Looks awesome, but not as awesome as Baseball Stars Professional would look on my Switch!
SOLD! Gotta love Hamster. (psst...more arcade archives please.)
OI! HAMSTER!! NINTENDO!!
Where's the other Nintendo Arcade games? you said "in the coming weeks"...it's been nearly a month since Mario Bros (which yeah is a nice start...but come on Bring Punch out and VS Super Mario Bros out already! )
Never heard of this Neo Geo game. I might give it a shot if the review is decent.
@Karlos88 Xmen was Konami but your point is well received. Also the excellent Bucky O'Hare brawler has never made it to a console release. There's Animorphic Fighters or whatever it's called too. The guys turn into animals i.e. bear, tiger.
@ThanosReXXX Nooooo!! My poor backlog....
@Karlos88 Robo Army is anything but a poor man's copy. It's actually one of the better scrolling beat em ups available on the Neo Geo.
And it's actually quite amazing that it is, seeing as it is one of the earlier Neo Geo games, but it still looks great (this YouTube video doesn't entirely do it justice) and there's a ton of variety in levels and characters going on.
Lots of replay value as well, due to a variation in power ups every time you play, and the vehicle transforming bits are also fun.
This is easily worth the money, even now.
aw yeah sucka
