Zelda: Breath of the Wild's 'Champions' amiibo Get a Release Date

We needed to see footage of the DLC, not a release date for these. I won't be buying these SCamiibo. I have all the other functionality of the SCamiibo in BOTW unlocked. I think it was said that these new 4 won't unlock anything extra in the game, I mean that some of the newer Zelda SCamiibo supposedly perform the same function. I don't know if that's true though what's said above may contradict that. I think the DLC could arrive on Christmas Day or perhaps the week before. There's no physical release so they don't need to worry about distribution and they may need the time to get it fully finished.

Oh ya, and there'll be no Miiverse by the time this arrives.

Seeing pretty much every Ninty game to the end of the year has a release date, you would have to think the Zelda DLC is behind schedule.

I still expect to see it before Christmas though.

Only available as a 4-pack means I'll never be able to pick these up in time before they sell out, then the price will skyrocket on eBay :/
I've missed out on the last 6 or so Zelda amiibo. It'd be nice if less different types were announced, and more of each were manufactured.

These look really nice but doubt I'll fork the cash for them.

I'd have expected to see footage of the DLC and announcement of release date followed by "the amiibo will also launch along side it" so I'm doubtful it's coming that soon. Probably a month later.

Already had mine preordered here in Japan months ago. I don't really mind the content they unlock, though of course it would be nice if they give more than just costumes. I was hoping for a chance to play as the Champions when the DLC was first announced. Right now I'm buying them for collection purposes.

Nintendo said, BEFORE Breath of Wild was released, that the Amiibos would unlock items WHICH YOU COULD COLLECT IN GAME WITHOUT THEM.
Well that was a lie, and these show that even more.
I wish Nintendo would stop saying one thing and doing another. STOP IT!!

Seems kind of backwards giving the amiibo date but not the DLC date, but they didn't say "2018" for the DLC so we'll have to assume it's still expected for this year but they're still working out the kinks. They do need to get it working on 2 different platforms simultaneously and they aren't really used to that yet. Heck Playtonic has missed 2 Directs now, nindie and this big one, and they abandoned Wii U long ago, the losers.

These are some nice amiibo, well except that big pole under Urbosa's behind, but we'll probably skip'em. If they unlocked themselves as playable characters in the game a la every other similarly priced toys-to-life ever, then I'd consider it.

Still expecting the December release they stated for the DLC. They need something going on in that month (Aside Xenoblade Chronicles 2 just squeezing in).

@Stryker89 Yeah, I gave up. To many odd amiibo I don't really care about and just a lot of Zelda ones we don't need right now.

I finished the game and on my 80th shrine. I doubt this will add much to the game.
Amiibo just makes the game more easier

Fingers crossed I can get these before the scalpers get in. Don't want to lose my 100% Zelda Amiibo collection. Not opened any since the Wolf one as I realised that none of them actually do anything worthwhile.

I've managed to collect all the Zelda Amiibo so far, and I intend to get these ones. I don't approve of their apparent scarcity though - it doesn't make sense that this is such a problem for Nintendo in general!

My wife really wants these 4. Which is a good thing because somehow she got all the BOTW link amiibos for 20% off on amazon a couple days after BOTW came out.

I've had way better luck getting amiibo off of Amazon Japan than anywhere else. In fact, I think the 4 champion amiibo are still available for preorder there, and I preordered them a few weeks ago. If you are able to set up an account there and get the international shipping option to work, no scalpers in your future! Unfortunately for me, I did not know about this sooner and just had to buy the original 5 BOTW amiibo and the 5 Zelda Smash amiibo for crazy prices. Get them early while they are still at MSRP!

@Ooyah I know right. Even off this site he somehow turns up. I listened to a podcast yesterday and 30 minutes of it was the presenter talking about the ridiculous things he said.

I'm dreading the price for them.

Not a fan of any of the DLC armor so far.

After I get the remaining Zelda Amiibo I'm going to take a break. My house looks like the room in Melee.

The excellent "Tired old hack" podcast, episode 18. Great podcast, especially if you were ever a fan of the now defunct Official Nintendo Magazine or CVG.

There's no way I'll be able to find these. I got super lucky with BotW Princess Zelda but since the game released I haven't seen a single amiibo from that game.

Too bad. These look really neat.

I'd love to buy them if only Nintendo would make enough stock. I'm also not a fan of the price for the BotW amiibos. That line of figures is definitely NOT worth $15.99 each. Like when I got the Zelda BotW amiibo I was a bit disappointed in some of the missing details (her shiekah slate had nothing on it despite it's intricate design in game). Meanwhile the Bayo, Cloud, and Corrin amiibos nail all the character details and they also cost $3 less.

@otterskateboard - I know you weren't replying to me, but I've been looking to add a gaming pod to my rotation for a while; and I've just never found one that I like. I followed your recommendation, and I think it's an excellent pod, at least that episode. When I realized the host wrote the excellent review for Samus Returns (Chris Scullion, who I didn't know of prior to the review), I paused and subscribed. I thought his opening bit about gaming journalism was fantastic. Thanks for the recommendation.
