Flip Wars has been steadily improved since its initial launch in Japan and more recent release in both Europe and North America with ongoing updates.
With an online mode now in the game along with achievements, the latest Nintendo Direct has revealed even more content for the Switch eShop exclusive is on the way. The next free update will add a new online battle mode called class matches. This mode includes leaderboards that encourage players to move up to the next class.
This update also adds a new level called Red Coliseum. Panels in this level are plagued by flames, meaning you’ll need to be more careful when moving about. Touch one of the fire panels and it will become harder to control your character. Various other mechanics are also being added to this update including spinners that flip over panels. Last but not least is the addition of local wireless play, so you can play with friends and family.

Well... prepare for Butt Attack.
Update or not, wasn't this game rather boring?
Does anyone care?
I might be persuaded to bite... we'll see. I only drawback is that it's multiplayer only and despite the fact that I like multiplayer I'm not sure how much value our find any game that is specifically only multiplayer. At least for a smaller game like this (Splatoon 2 is totally fine being a game I only play online)
eh...
@Kalmaro
Well...
Maybe I will consider this game.
Maybe....
@Anti-Matter It looks neat but not enough yo make me get it. Too many better options.
No thanks. I love free new content in just about any game I play, but neither of that are enough to cover up the super barebones gameplay and bite-sized content.
@thesilverbrick Yes, it was. In fact, it was already boring by the time I played it at SDCC 2017.
Can't complain about free updates/content, but if it doesn't make the game less boring, I don't think it will persuade me to give the game another play. It's my main/only regret purchase on the Switch.
@amos_IRL Agreed. I mean, this is NOTHING compared to what Splatoon, Splatoon 2, ARMS, and even Super Bomberman R are getting in the free updates department. Whereas those games were plates of dinner from a gourmet chef, Flip Wars' update is a small green leaf on a plate by comparison.
I may very well delete Flip Wars off of my SD Card, especially since Runbow on Switch is happening, despite releasing somewhere at the end of this year.
@StephenYap3 Runbow looks like a good laugh - local couch multiplayer all the way!
This update might just bring this game up to "actual game" status, instead of $10 beta demo. The only functioning mode in the game so far is choppy online against the only one other person online.
To echo other's sentiments, my only regretted switch purchase so far.
@Pupito The game is fun with friends. It has decent AI and little to no learning curve which makes it easy to pick up and play at any age. I do agree with commentators above with it being just a tad bit bare-bones as far as content though. It has much potential and if it continues to grow, especially with Free updates, its worth the $9.99 price tag. I own it and we play it between Arms and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sessions.
