Sometimes it's easy to wonder if Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of America are actually both part of the same company. For example the European subsidiary is yet to post a tweet about tomorrow's Nindies Showcase Presentation out of North America, and has now gazumped it somewhat with a tasty Nintendo x Indies sizzle reel. You're all on the same team, Nintendo subsidiaries...
Anyhoo, it's a nice video showcasing a bunch of games 'coming soon' to the Switch eShop, with a few that seem to be fresh announcements. Even with familiar games there are snippets of fresh footage - check it out below.
We're going to break down details on any 'new' games in there for a separate post; in the meantime let us know what's caught your eye in the comments.

Some of that does look interesting.
I can personally vouch for Owlboy. Hollow knight is good stuff too.
I can already tell we have a lot of gems here in this set of indies.
As usual, Europe one ups NA. No surprise really.
I hope some of these get physical releases
HOLLOW KNIGHT!!
Wow there's a bunch of really cool looking ones i havn't seen before!
So, eh are Capcom, Sega, Square Enix, Activision, EA, Namco, Warner Bros., Ubisoft, Bethesda, etc, etc, included?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nope, because they're not Indies
Monster Boy
Hollow Knight
Huntdown
Owl Boy
Aces of the Luftwaffe
Those were the 5 that caught my attention.
Although tbh none of them made me stand up straight and say "Yes! Want THAT!".
I will probably be getting most of them.
@ThomasBW84 But I was told yesterday that indies are 3rd parties.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/08/nintendo_confirms_a_new_nindies_showcase_presentation_for_30th_august
So indies can be 3rd parties but 3rd parties can't be indies.
@FX102A Owl boy I can vouch for, it's fun.
My friends say that hollow knight is the most legit thing ever.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE More like, indies are 3rd party but not all third parties are indie.
Nope. Nothing for me this week 😉
@Kalmaro Dude if you even slightly liked Metroid (or as a more accurate description, sort of like Julius Mode in Castlevania: Aria/Dawn of Sorrow), you'll LOVE Hollow Knight. It's SO GOOD
Flipping Death still remains one of my most anticipated games this year.
@EvilLucario That's what I've been told! I don't game o. My pc much these days (Curse you Switch) so looking forward to when we can get it!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think that's the dumbest comment I've ever seen you make. You know the difference between indie games and big budget games, right?
@Alikan Tough crowd...
Almost forgot about Hollow Knight, please give us a physical release
So tomorrow's Direct is kinda pointless now Nintendo Europe decided to do this.
There's not really anything here that excited me unfortunately so I hope that this isn't everything from the indie side of things.
Hollow Knight is one of the bests indies I've ever played this year. I'm hyped whenever that comes to Switch
@SaKo I've made stupider.
Forgotten about Owlboy...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I know you're just trying to be funny but yes, indie games are 3rd party but 3rd party isn't always indie. 3rd party means that the developer is independent of the platform while indie means that the studio is small and usually doesn't have a significant financial support. Example: Ubisoft works on its own and is not part of Nintendo so it's 3rd party but it's a big mainstream developer, not an indie.
The "State of Mind" clip was really revealing.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Indies could be renamed low budget thirs parties. There was a time when these games were released on retail but the Wii bashing campaign killed the retail market for this part of the industry
Will there be any chance of downloadable previews like the wiiU nindies?
Wow, I am interested in all but maybe 2 of those. As in I will be buying them all...Go Switch!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE

For once, I agree with you.
A real step up in quality from the Wii U indie reels, so that's good
I'm down for Digg 2, Chasers and probably Wargroove as well. Still, I'd love to see more RPGs, tactical games and rogue-likes coming to the system. It already once more feels like platformer overkill to me. Some of them are really good, no doubt, and the system is richer for any game it can get no doubt, but ... it also really could use some more non-platformers as well. Hell, I'd take a good Sudoku collection or something like that over yet another 2D platformer
Wargroove is still something I'm very much looking forward to, I could really use something to fill the void left by Advance Wars.
Tiny Metal too, first I've heard of it, but it looks intriguing. Need to check if there is some more footage of that.
@ThomasBW84 yeah, I was hoping for something more like Stardew Valley or that new harvestmoonlike game from the people that made Kamiko. I'll accept my place as a niche gamer who is desperate for farmer sims, lol.
HUNTDOWN looks great!!
Why don't we just call them all 7/10.
There was some real nice looking titles in there. Huntdown was the one that really caught my eye though. 8 bit Armies looks like it has potential too, loved Cannon Fodder back in the day.
What happened to pay day?
Is that owlboy?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE indies are not third party. That person is delusional.
@Mr64 still coming. It's not an independent game. The only games in this video are indies
Some really good games there
But no AGameAWeek.
I can hardly wait to buy them and leave them forever unplayed on my SD card
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Not sure if you're trolling with comment #11, but anyway: yes, indies are third-parties (meaning that they aren't first- or second-parties). A game being 'third-party' only means it wasn't developed by a console manufacturer or one of their subsidiaries.
Conversely, not all third-parties are indies, since there are big-budget video game developers that aren't console manufacturers or one of their subsidiaries.
It's really not that hard to understand.
EDIT: Also, yeah, personal tastes and all that, but as far as my interest goes, some of those games are ages ahead of most stuff AAA third-parties put out these days. Even in my Playstation 4, which obviously doesn't lack big-budget support, the vast majority of my favorite titles are indies. So, from a quality standpoint, I really don't understand your continuous complaining about indie games.
Probably getting most of these - look really great. I wonder if Huntdown will be good? I'd loooove a new Contra style game.
War Groove - day 1
Digg 2 - day 1
State of Mind - buy curious
State of Mind really stuck out for me. Only because nothing happened in it, mind.
Mostly rubbish as far as I can see!
So stardew valley is not coming soon??
No Stardew Valley? Does that mean it will be coming out tomorrow as the trailer is for Indies coming soon...
Liked them all...was hoping to see Hyper Light Drifter, though.
Here's an E3 trailer for Huntdown, it looks really good.
https://youtu.be/cZuoyIqTZ1w
I...I saw something rolling. Ok, it was a box not a ball...but..but...I'll stay calm. Also, my poor wallet. Majority of that looked bloody ace
A few of the titles caught my attention but what I found most impressive is the variety. There weren't just a bunch of 2D platformers this time.
How "soon" are we talking because a lot of these games were shown off back in January and we still know next to nothing.
Wow, I guess I'm in a crabby mood today? Just... things have been rubbing me the wrong way regarding Nintendo today. Anyway, good to see a few of the indies I've been anticipating are still on track, and I think there might have been one or two more that caught my eye. I may have to watch it again to be sure.
I personally think Shu looks gorgeous, but I'm also a sucker for hand-drawn visuals
P.S. That's the best they could show of State of Mind?? Lol
Nintendo NA and EU are definitely not the same company, at least for the customer service, where one is good and one sucks.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
"So indies can be 3rd parties but 3rd parties can't be indies"
Yes.
I am still waiting for stardew valley 🤞
Owl Boy and 8-Bit Armies and the Luftwaffe one looked interesting. More on the 'ones to Watch' pile.
A couple titles interest me here, a few I haven't heard of before. Battle Chasers: Night War looks interesting along with Huntdown. State of Mind is one I'll have to look into to see what it's about. Along with Brawlout and maybe Portal Knights.
Stardew Valley, Owlboy and Hollow Knight are all I want for now. Hopefully before Dec 2017.
Can we accept that indies are third party support? Also can we face the fact that not all mobile games are pieces of crap? There are lots pf indie titles on mobile that could benefit from a Switch release and us too as gamers. Examples of mobile games: Severe, Implosion, Voez. This types of mobile games are cool. Why ppl only think on mindless stuff with lots of microtransactions when it comes to mobile?
@ThomasBW84 thanks Thomas. Indie games are as valid as triple A games.
@faint thanks for clearing that up for me lol
@bitleman
The move to digital helped with that. Putting stuff like this on a digital stores is much less of a gamble than a retail release.
still no Stardew Valley or Yooka Laylee. Hopefully the Direct will not just be this video but some actual dates.
I think I jinxed Rive and Pocket Rumble. Firefly and Arrested Development getting cancelled was my fault too.
@FragRed Apparently this was just a recap video of stuff shown at Gamescom and isn't related to tomorrow's showcase. Obviously there will be some overlap, but there should plenty of other stuff, including release dates.
@Wyk126 It is. Just submitted to Nintendo for testing this week. Should be out before the end of September.
Was hoping to see Golf Story. I'm all in for Battle Chasers though and a couple others had promise. Not a bad line up
Oh man, most of the games shown are things I would buy (if I had a Switch of course). But it would cost me a terrible amount of money (especially since everything on Switch is soo expensive) and I have already a gigantic backlog...
As I have said sometimes before: I rather pay full price for some very big and very good third-party games on disc (the stuff you see on PS4 and Xboxone) then buy lots and lots and lots of fun but lesser and shorter downloads. Now it also feels like we are rushing from game to game, while nothing stays in our minds for long. That's not good!
I can only imagine the gigantic download-games list when the game of the year voting starts. And to think of that list next year, the horror...
hello 8-bit armies! Sufficiently piqued
Tiny Metal looks really impressive, if Nintendo had made a Advance Wars game on the Wii U it might have looked exactly like that.
I think that's the only one of these i'll pick up, but that's ok considering there are already too many Switch games coming out this year that i want.
Owlboy and Hollow Knight please!
@Ralek85 if your looking for a rouge like of the top-down variety your in look. Enter the Gungeon in also coming out on switch 👍😉
@ThatNyteDaez Just wanted to say sorry your having a bad day
Also just remember these are indie titles. Usually very small teams so the fact that some of these were already shown is just a side effect of being independent ¯(ツ)/¯
I'm sure we'll get a bunch of new stuff tomorrow though.
Well, it's really telling that, while we still can't quite boast the same third party support as other consoles, we still get exclusive indies. All indies we get are exclusive, in a way: other consoles' indies are chained to their users' homes; our versions of the same games can be played anywhere.
Some of these look fantastic, as long as they are not too prices I will nab them
Already bought a few of the more interesting ones on PC...
Oh well, they'll be more expensive on the Switch anyway, I'm guessing.
That one with the anime music looked looked both hilarious and like an ambitious indie game. I hope the story/world/combat are all alright.
Few underestimate the indies. Indies deserve some of the credits for keeping the switch where it is now. If we look at how steam have become now, we cant deny that indies had a part in it. Indies also breed new life and innovations look at minecraft, arma/dayz, pubg, terraria, etc. Whilst i agree the bigger third party is lacking i believe they will come around. People are forgetting nintendo are doing something look at the collabs between ubisoft with mario rabbids, koei tecmo with fire emblem, bandai with pokken. Even open to cross platform multiplayer support unlike sony stance. Sick of hearing this conversation since launch i guess it cant be avoided..
The most shocking reveal was that Nintendo would ever put out a video rated 16+!
I understand the admins of this site probably love having Sligeach around as he sends them tips on news etc, but this type of trolling wouldn't be allowed on any other web forum. EVERY single article is filled with him derailing any discussion and making absurd claims that he simply can't possibly believe. Some of his trolling was actually believable at the start and made me think he was just an idiot, but for someone that's been into gaming for more than two weeks, not knowing the difference between indie and third party is impossible. At this point it's undeniable that he's not dumb, he's doing it on purpose in some twisted beg for attention, and should be banned as such.
It's pretty cool seeing how many of you like the different game genres here. The diversity in interests makes me happy to see. ☺️☺️
