Nintendo has given a bit more detail on the upcoming SNES Classic Edition console, which launches on September 29th.
The most interesting new announcement is that the console comes with a special "Rewind" feature which allows you to skip backwards when you make a mistake - a similar concept to that seen in games like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Racer Driver: GRID.
This aspect manifests itself differently depending on the game you're playing; in Super Mario RPG you can jump back a few minutes, while in action titles like Super Mario World the rewind time is limited to approximately 40 seconds.
That's not all, however; like the Super Game Boy all those years ago, the SNES Classic Edition has optional frames which can be added around the main image to make it more appealing.
Here are the new NA and Euro trailers for the console, revealed at Gamescom 2017:
Have you been lucky enough to get a pre-order for this new console? Or has this new information made you change your mind about seeking one out?

Just another friendly heads up that it's up for preorder on Amazon US. Gotta search for "SNES Classic" and click on the image-less listing.
Yay!
Nice. I like. Can't wait
Obligatory "I have one on pre order" humble brag.
I haven't had a winter this expensive in videogames for a couple of years now. Good job I have a bit more disposable income now. Phew
30th September for Australia, right?
@Fandabidozi
Yep, the 30th for Australia.
@KIREEK It's already been added to the landing page:

@Damo you guys are awesome. Sorry for posting about it in several articles. Just didn't want anybody to miss out.
Oh god. If I can grab one of these I will be quoting Prince of Persia sands of time so much. "No, no no...it didn't happen like that."
Luckily I secured a pre order when they went live on amazon and shopto months ago!
All well and good, but when none are available for most normal people (people that work and can't be checking every second) it's pointless. Nintendo dropped the ball again. They knew full well what was going to happen, but they just don't care, they seem to be happy making money for vultures whilst most real fans miss out. Yea I'm salty...
That feature has been used in Rare Collection on Xbox One and the Disney Afternoon Collection, so it's not exactly a new idea. I personally see the rewind feature as "cheating", similar to save states (removing the save state when you resume the game I like however, as I can pause the game any time).
@Hughesy Preorders selling out in minutes after they are made available seems to be the norm nowadays. If Nintendo fails to deliver like they did with the NES classic we have every right to complain, but can we at least wait until it is officially released?
Got one @amazon 😍😍😍😍😘😘 I'm completely happy
wow! so excited for this!!!
Awesome. Went to bed and woke up to the fact I'll not be getting a SNES Classic.
@countzero You mean like after the Nes and Switch released and were easily available? Nintendo have already said they won't be manufacturing them for long, so it's obvious what's going to happen. As soon as some become available vultures will snap them up.
Interestingly this news came after AtGames show us their Sega Genesis Flashback which also had this same crappy feature.
I think that's great. I really like rewind features. Rewind and save states are good to avoid wasting time. I also don't consider them cheating. Why? Some games cheat. I play enough old games to know that sometimes games drop inputs. Sometimes it accompanies slowdown which can get quite bad. Some games just drop inputs when there's a lot happening. Sometimes it's a mechanical issue with the controller. Some games will crash or glitch out(Sonic can do that in several games). Certain design choices can have unintended consequences in some games. I've even seen, arcade at least, collision detection conveniently ignored in certain circumstances consistently. So I like such features and am glad they are there. I think it's better to include them and let people decide for themselves.
Is there a rewind feature on preorders because it doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere?
@ZachBeacon I was just going to say that!
Ninty make some more please!
@ZachBeacon The vultures would still end up getting them before us fans.
I have one pre ordered but I will never be using the rewind feature, always one of my least favourite systems in modern games
I've decided to sit out on this one, but good luck to those trying to pick one up.
Nice trailers!
