These Nintendo Switch software updates are coming thick and fast these days. We've already seen Zelda: Breath of the Wild and ARMS get new updates, and now it's the turn of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Version 1.2.1 of the popular racer has just gone live, but it doesn't boast the sweeping changes seen in the other titles; in fact, this merely fixes an irksome issue with online play:
Corrected an issue that prolonged the time to return to the lobby after races near the start and end times of online tournaments.
While it's not a massive update, it's comforting to know that Nintendo is working towards making the game a more enjoyable experience all the same.

I swear I can smell the DLC.
Who are these people that keep getting excited with updates? Stop getting excited! How many times does this website have to tell you?
Brought my Wii U and MK8 on a weekend away recently and it was fantastic fun, I hadn't played it in ages, such a good game.
Come on Nintendo, I want more tracks for Battle mode, that is all I ask.
Edit: Actually more customization options in terms of setting up your races/battles would be really awesome. Like choosing what items can and cannot be used.
I am just waiting for free stuff (if that ever happens).
I still have hope for DLC but understand that if it happens, it'll probably be later on in the year or sometime next year. MK8 Deluxe DLC would probably shift people's attention even further away from ARMS which Splatoon 2 is already doing.
@BigYellow I don't see any DLC coming for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, since it is a port and released with the two DLC if the original and the extra battle modes.
It's more likely they are looking at the next installment, then releasing more DLC for the current one.
@Jeronan I'm 50/50 on our chances of getting DLC, but it really would make this game even more incredible.
Also, does anyone remember that Tweet Nintendo UK make with Kalimari Desert with the line, "Good things come to those who wait." and the MK8 hashtag? Still have my fingers crossed.
Don't get too excited has been used a lot lately.
I remember it well! It makes me think that they had more DLC planned but then decided to do DX for Switch and so it got put on the back burner. We can only dream @BigYellow
@G0dlike We can only hope, Zelda, ARMS, and Splatoon 2 all have DLC or new content, don't see why MK8 DX can't join in.
I'll say one thing though, as hopeful as that Tweet made me, I'd rather not have Kalimari Desert. The game already has 4 N64 tracks, give DS or Wii some lovin'.
DLC tracks would actually be the only thing that could tempt me to buy Deluxe
I want two new cups.
Or better, Mario Kart 9
@BigYellow
Or Super Circuit. I know the original MK8 already had SC circuit as DLC, but MKSC being pretty much neglected by Nintendo is something a worryingly low amount of fans has noticed, despite MKSC getting the lowest amount of tracks in MKWii and a grand total of one in MK7.
@BigYellow I considered that tweet already solved.
Kalimari Desert -> Kalimari -> Callie + Marie -> Splatoon content in MK8 Deluxe
@AlexSora89 I'd love a fourth GBA track personally, I know there's only two SNES tracks but Super Circuit is criminally underrated. Bowser Castle 4 or Broken Pier would be awesome. The GBA custom tracks in CTGP are some of my favorites.
Would absolutely love to see some DLC for Mario Kart on my Switch, but I think, they prefer to work on a completely new titel, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is already a Wii-U-port.
@Grumblevolcano Part of me is amazed at how perfect that is and part of me is worried that if that is what they meant there's less DLC evidence.
I love Mariokart 8 on the Switch. I would love it if Nintendo gives the game more support / unlockables etc.
I wonder if anyone is looking at the issue where it throws you into a lobby early enough to have played but then makes you spectate the whole first race. That happens way too often to be coincidence.
The game itself is as comprehensive a MK I can remember, I wouldn't expect/hope for sweeping changes. Online stability and any bugs ironed out is now merely good housekeeping.
I have to turn the volume down every time I play this game. Everyone was staring at me because that crazy Mario voice screamed 'Mario Kart EIGHTTTT!!!' when you start the game. It's embarrassing, this game was clearly not designed to be taken outside the house.
Waiting for version 1.3.0 which adds a Daisy and Boo amiibo suit.
I just want them to fix Renegade Roundup, it's far too easy for the Renegades to win.
@BigYellow Pretty sure that tweet was referring to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as a whole.
Plus the Kalimari Desert reference was obviously referring to the Splatoon Content.
@Nincompoop, omg they stared at you!? Are you okay? Do you need me to wrap you in some blankets and get you some tea?
Pure trolling, at this point. Where's my "Shop" button Nintendo? Where are my alternate colors for Toad, Koopa Troopa, and Link? :/
@GrailUK ARMS updates have been exciting, if you ask me. Not "wow! what an exciting thing!!", but good enough to be happy.
I'll get excited when Mario Kart 8's battle mode and 59fps rate are fixed!
This game has been completely ignored for me ever since Splatoon 2 came out. Maybe once my addiction to Splatoon 2 lessens, I'll be able to get back into this game, lol.
Now if only Nintendo would fix the issue in MK8D where more than 4 people try to race in local wireless. My group of friends keep getting disconnected whenever we try to race more than 4. Some kind of wireless interference I guess. We turn our phones off, we keep our 3DS' turned off, and the Switch consoles still crash when trying to connect more than 4 for a race in Local Wireless.
C'mon Nintendo, make new DLC, toss in 4 new battle tracks, some new kart parts, and a couple more characters and we're good to go
@BigYellow I would love to see more Mario Kart DLC. Even if they started to release all the retro courses from other Mario Karts that would be cool with me.
Half Life 3 confirmed.
I don't expect any DLC for this as it is the ultimate edition of kart 8. I'm hoping since Arms is done that the majority of the team will have started Kart 9 for an early 2019 release.
@90sRetroGaming haha id actually pay for those things
@Nincompoop Do you not wear headphones when you play games in public?
@BigYellow If that meant anything, it probably meant Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
@BigYellow
You had me at "criminally underrated". It was so good that, mostly due to lacking Quick Run, its successor felt incomplete by comparison.
@BigYellow I hope it tastes as good as it smells
@GrailUK NEVER
