It's time to work on our Japanese, because Nintendo Japan has confirmed a Dragon Quest XI Direct for this week. This is likely to promote the upcoming July release of the 3DS version, though naturally plenty will want to see what's happening with the Switch version.
You can see the tweet and times below.
To translate for you, that's 21st June at 8pm JST, with the broadcast due to last 14 minutes. That's actually not bad for some of us in the West keen to watch; the equivalent times are 4am Pacific / 7am Eastern / noon UK / 1pm CEST on that same date, 21st June.
We'll be giving this the usual Nintendo Direct treatment in hosting the stream with a live blog and chat. We'll see you then!
With thanks to SLIGEACH_EIRE for the heads up.

It would be nice if they could mention a Western Switch localisation though I wouldn't count on it. We never got DQX on Wii U in the West.
This better get a English translation or I'm going to lose my $h!t.
And still we have no mention of DragonQuest X...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Not comparable. X is an MMORPG.
It's in Japanese. It concerns Japanese Switch owners only, but otaku people are welcome.
If my Japanese is still any good, I believe it says the direct will be ONLY about the 3ds version of the game? Although I would love to see what's up with Switch version and western localisation
The tweet says it is going to be focused on features exclusive to the 3ds version but I think this would be a good chance for them to announce the Switch version release date.
I'm not holding my breath, but I think Square Enix knows DQ has a growing anglophone audience. It was always on the Switch release schedule, but could be six months plus further down the line.
Ni No Kuni 2 is out in November and XC2 still says 2017, so I'm OK with this coming to the west on Switch in March, but I'd really like to see them talk about it before then.
If Nintendo is having a Direct, not Squenix, Nintendo, and they only talk about the 3DS, not the Switch, well that would be just like Nintendo, but it would still suck.
7AM, I'll be here, though I don't understand or read a lick of Japanese.
Alright nice, those "adult reasons" they have mentioned before are in the favor of Nintendo probably because of the direct. Wouldn't be surprised if Sony still had timed exclusivity but then again does time exclusivity affect my western mind.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE There's plenty of reason to be optimistic. Every main line DQ game has been localized with the exception of X which was an exception due to its MMORPG nature.
Gimmie dat Heroes pack. Oh and XI would be cool too.
@mateq Rather than explicitly stating that the Direct will be only about the 3DS version, I believe it's stating that the Direct will centre around features that can only be found in the 3DS version (such as StreetPass etc.).
So I expect it to be mainly about the 3DS version (perhaps almost entirely) but I don't think the tweet specifically excludes the possibility of getting some information on the Switch version thrown in as well.
To give some justification, I'm fairly sure the "だけ" (only) is part of the wider noun phrase, "ニンテンドー3DS版だけの特徴" (3DS-only features/3DS-exclusive features), as opposed to meaning '3DS only broadcast'.
Chucking that into the rest of then sentence gives something like, "[The broadcast] will centrally report on StreetPass etc. and [other] 3DS-exclusive features". Other less clunky/literal translations are available.
Anyway, hopefully we'll get some Switch news too, even if it's just some words of reassurance!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Heck it would be nice if they announced a Western localization of ANY version. OR announced a Switch version even in Japan. The lack of info on DQXI is irritating.
@Maxz Well I'm pretty sure the ND wouldn't spend time focusing on features that can only be found on the PS4 version
@Maxz That makes sense, thanks for clearing that out!
Let me guess, it'll be a video about a bunch of mumbo jumbo within the game and still no international release date.
Let's hope we have some info on DQ XI Switch, since that would give US a glimmer of hope it could come west.
But probably, they're going to push DQX Switch and DQXI 3DS
We better be getting a Monster Hunter Direct over here. >_>
I am not expecting any mention whatsoever of a western release. They will spotlight the game on 3DS, remind everyone that it is coming to Switch and maybe announce a Japanese release date for the Switch version.
I don't expect to see this game in the west until 2018.
If the theories about Sony meddling around are true then maybe the Switch version will be a port of the "handheld" version from the 3DS?
I hope they have news for the Switch version of 11 and localization for X. I want to play both games SE please.
@ecco6t9 Rumors are Sony is scare of Switch potential and as a result are doing whatever they can to stop Switch (MH World, DQXI) then they dare to say publicly: "the industry is strong when Nintendo is strong". So much bull from them.
DQXI has now gone gold (in Japan) for 3DS and PS4. That means it's done, and being put onto carts/discs. That we still know absolutely nothing - no release date, no screenshots, not even whether it'll be pixels or models - about the Switch version, that's been talked about since it was the NX, is a total farce at this point.
There's some utterly ridiculous corporate tomfoolery going on here. Barring Hell itself having opened up and swallowed one of SE's subteams, there's just no other explanation by now.
I'll be waiting to hear about that localization of DQ Heroes 1+2 too. Oh yeah...
