Nintendo UK's site has revealed that The King Of Fighters '99 is the next entry in the popular ACA Neo Geo series.
Notable for introducing the "Striker" system - where support characters can leap in to assist your team - the 1999 entry in the long-running series also put new fighter K' in the spotlight.
While it's perhaps not as fondly remembered as its forerunner, King of Fighters '98, this instalment is still an excellent brawler. Will you be picking it up this week? Let us know with a comment below.

Great game.
The debut of K' and Maxima, the first title of the NESTS saga. Good stuff!
How is anyone who didn't blow hundreds of pounds in arcades back in the late Nineties supposed to be able to tell these apart? How would people rank all these SNK Vs fighters?
Considered one of the worst games in the series after how brilliant 98 was. Hoping for 2002 soon as I have 2000 on the PS4, amazing game. 98, 2000 and 2002 are the only 3 I ever consider buying again.
I hope the Super Sidekicks series and Soccer Slam are in their plans. They could have the only football games on Switch before FIFA arrives which would surely help their chances of success.
Pass, wake me up when the last blade (preferably the 2nd one) hit eshop.
@big_bad_bob Definitely this one isn't up to par with '96 or '98.
I'm still waiting for '96, FF3 and Real Bout (any)...
@Krillin
KOF '96 better than '98 (you can pass on others)
Fatal Fury 3
Fatal Fury Real Bout 2 (though all in this sub-serie are good for different reasons)
Samurai Shodown 2
Last Blade (1 or 2, they are good mostly the same)
You can skip everything else.
97', 99' and 2002 are my favorites. I hope they bring 2002 soon.
@Shiryu Wasn't the Orochi saga concluded in '97? Pretty sure '99 started the NESTS storyline.
@Krillin Personally, I would recommend the following Neo Geo vs fighting games:
King of Fighters '98
Last Blade 2
Samurai Shodown II
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special or Real Bout 2
Garou: Mark of the Wolves
Waku Waku 7
Others will disagree with my choices, but I don't think the average person needs multiple entries from most series.
@BionicDodo Ops, my bad!
Hm... any chance for Magical Drop III Neo Geo ?
Just bought Garou so will sit this one out.
No diversity in these releases. I agree with a previous poster - where is Super Sidekicks? Or any sports game for that matter? All these beat 'em ups and clever 2d platformers... This console is going to end up like the Wii U.
Plus we do have a few run and gun games like some Metal Slugs and Shock Troopers. Sure it doesnt help the system was 90% fighters, but at least we are getting a fair few non-fighters thus far.
That said, wonder how far the KOF series will go on Switch.
@Anti-Matter Something I would gladly pay for.
@Milton_Burle The WiiU ended up like the Neo Geo, not the other way around
@Tetsuro @BIonicDodo Thanks, you two! That's actually really helpful. Looks like we've still got plenty of titles to come then. Might check out KoF '98, but I'll be holding out for Samurai Shodown 2...
@Krillin Yes, the best has not been released, and only King of Fighters '98 is that solid. '94 is good too but it's no casual fighter, it's hard and with a slower gameplay, like Real Bout (1).
I agree with others here. It's awesome we keep getting all these NeoGeo games but they need to mix in other genres in between the fighting games. I realize that a large chunk of NeoGeo games were fighters, but not all of them. Let's see Magician Lord, Blue's Journey, Baseball Stars, Magical Drop, AeroFighters, League Bowling...
Samurai Shodown II, Last Blade 2 and Windjammers please
@Hikingguy A niche system with a low install base that became mostly forgotten but regarded well for some classic games but tended to focus on a handful of genres.
The reasoning is vastly different. But neither machine was ever a common household item. Although in Neo Geo's case it was a desirable but unattainable system. In WiiU's case it was not the most desired of products
I like seeing the steady stream of Neo Geo releases. Yes, there are a lot of vs. Fighters, but that was the case on the MVS arcade platform. And there were many quality fighters. I would just get a few and not worry about the rest. But it's nice that they're providing options. There will be more non-fighting games to come. I can never get enough Metal Slug. I hope they release part 5. Though another fighting series, The Last Blade is fantastic. I prefer the first one. Hope to see those as well.
@Tetsuro Personally, on addition to what I already have, the Last Blade 2 and Real Bout Special are essential, anything else is optional.
On the action game front though, I need Metal Slug X.
How about one of the wicked baseball games?
Ok Hamster easy now on the fighters! Let's mix it up a bit?? Baseball stars? Magical Drop? Last resort? League Bowling? magician lord? Blues journey? Soccer side kicks? Perhaps another metal slug? Let's mix it up a bit boys!!
@Pahvi Yeah I count golf. But that's one game. Current count is 9 Neo Geo beat 'em ups. NINE. But my beef is with the Switch line up in general. Wii U ended up having no diversity and I hope we see a bit more variety on Switch. Indications thus far aren't great though.
