The release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is only a short way off now, and it might be the first time a lot of Switch owners have played this game as not everyone had the Wii U. Still, current owners of the non-deluxe version will no doubt be delighted by the new-found portability, new characters and of course the all-important battle mode.
Ever since Super Mario Kart, which was released way back in 1992, the series has been a essential buy for each Nintendo console, and we don't think anything's changed as this one gets set to hit stores.
With this in mind we've put together a handy guide so you can share your love for all things Mario Kart with friends and family.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Nintendo Switch
It would be remiss of us not to include the game itself in our deals guide. While some of you might opt for the downloadable version so you can easily hop into a game of Mario Kart whenever the mood takes you, we know a lot of you are old school and will want the cartridge.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wheels
Are you one of those people who can play Mario Kart using motion controls? If so you'll want to pick up a pair of wheels lovingly designed to fit your Joy-Con. In addition to Nintendo's first party offering, there are a few alternatives from third parties which might take your fancy.
Multiplayer Madness
You can play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 4 players locally, so now might be a good time to invest in some more controllers. Another pair of Joy-Con might be all you need, but a Pro Controller (or a cheaper third party offering) is another great way to go.
Mario Kart on the move!
If like the folks in the Switch pre-launch commercial you like to play a game of Mario Kart on your way to do some real life go-karting we've got you covered. Mount your Nintendo Switch to your car headrest and keep it topped up with power and you won't get any more annoying "are we there yet?" questions on a long vacation journey this Summer.
Radio Controlled Mario Kart fun
Radio controlled cars are great fun to mess about with, but the fun is doubled when that R/C car has a Mario Kart theme.
Pull back Mario Kart racers
These pull back Mario Kart 8 racers can be a laugh and make ideal reasonably priced birthday gifts for kids and big kids. Why not collect them all?
More Mario Kart merch
It's amazing what other Mario Kart-themed items you can get. From t-shirts to pin badges, here are some fun ideas for you to show the world what a massive Mario Kart fan you are.
Thanks for checking out these deals, and whatever you go for we're optimistic that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be an awesome arrival on Switch. If you have any favourite items that we missed share them below!

I'm still waiting for that cool headrest side-mount from the Switch reveal trailer.

(Edit: How do I post pics in the comments so you can actually see the pic, not just the link?)
Nintendo got enough money out of me for the Wii U version plus the DLC. I won't be buying this game again anytime soon.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE the selling points for me are the portability factor as well as the new exclusive switch content. Hope the Switch comes out with some good stuff that'll encourage you to make the switch ..... whomp.
@JHDK
It's posted here...
@JHDK
It is listed under Kart on the Move section.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Did you download it to the WiiU like I did?
Just getting busted links to amazon.au
Wait where did that Retro Fighter controller come from!? o_o I want one!
Alas it doesn't appear to have a UK Amazon entry at the moment
@Gold_Ranger @Gold_Ranger I checked them out, they are not the same thing.
This website is becoming more and more like Amazon!
@Lord : Or Zool.
Loved it on the WiiU, I'm double dipping because you just can't beat battle mode and the portability.
What has happened to K'NEX since I was little!?!?
I would never have guessed they were K'NEX sets just looking at the models.
Nintendo Life: Sponsored by Amazon.
I wonder if I'm the only one, but I still think the original Mario Kart is king when it comes to this series. The small, fast tracks with the tight handling is just perfect. Mario Kart 8 is great, but I still don't find the wider, grander tracks as appealing. Plus I find all the characters and vehicles overwhelming. Less is more for me.
My kids broke the disc on the wii u so they are happy to play it again lol
@SLIGEACH_EIRE How are you enjoying that there battle mode?
@Kalmaro I don't care about portability which some people are trumpeting about. The Battle Mode isn't worth another €60. Nintendo could have and should have patched that into the Wii U version. But they want that €60 from people so it didn't happen. The Wii U version sold over 8 million copies. That's phenomenal for a console deemed a failure. Put it like this, it sold more than Goldeneye on N64 which is a cult favourite and on a console that sold nearly 3 times as much as Wii U. I'll be very interested to see how much MK8 Deluxe in its lifetime.
@Meuz Media compaines gotta hustle hard to make ends meet these days.
@Savino Haha funny. Just some advice, I'd edit that profanity before someone comes along and does it for you.
@JHDK Write (img) and (/img) either side of your link. Switch the ( ) to [ ] when writing.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Why do you think portability is not awesome ?
Is that something really really wrong when you take your game on the go ? (Losing your pride as a Gamer in front of Hardcore gamers / People will looking at you weirdly / Playing handheld in front of peoples are Stupid / Mention by yourself)
Why are you so Persistent with Stationary ? What are defending from not playing Handheld ? Do you have Personal Issues or Negative perception about Handhelds ?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE If you don't care about potability them the Switch is not for you, since that's one of its biggest selling points.
I could understand them not porting it to the WiiU. The system is dead and more people are into the Switch now, not much reason to go back at this point.
@GravyThief
Not only that but there were 5 laps per race!
No completley overpowering items.
You kept moving when you got hit, nowadays you get hit, you come to an instant stop and it sucks.
Best of all, NO DAMNED BLUE SHELL!!!!!
Switch is for me. I haven't undocked mine since I got it!
@Gold_Ranger The only time that mine is docked is when it's being charged or we're playing on the big screen. Otherwise when it's not being played it sit on my desk close to me
@Gold_Ranger I don't think MK SNES was perfect though. That rubber banding AI which meant no matter what I did as Koopa Trooper to Luigi, he would always catch right up and be up my arse within seconds! I remember when I finally won gold on 150cc Special Cup, I literally cursed and swore at Luigi. I got a right telling off from my mother! Great times.
@Hikingguy I've never played the Wii version unfortunately. I own it, but I purchased my Wii towards the end of its life, after a hiatus away from video games for half a decade, so I've just never gotten around to it. I've recently been getting into Double Dash on my trusty Cube. I was never that into it at the time, but coming back to it 15 or so years later and I'm really appreciating what it's about. Funny thing, nostalgia.
@Hikingguy I'll have to try the Wii one once I've worked my way through Double Dash. At this rate I might complete the single player MK8 by 2020 😀
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Mario Kart 8 really sold a lot considering Wii U's numbers, but Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart DS both sold 30 million, so there is at the very least 22 million previous MK owners out there that haven't had their grubby mitts on the ocho.
I'm fully expecting 15+ million for Deluxe.
There was no set finishing order in SMK.
I know DS, Wii,WiiU has them.
And it really sucks.
I can use a blue shell on a character and pass by them, hit them with normal shells and other crap and no matter what, they are still right there in the same place.
Another thing that sucks with 8...
Red shells fly...
You go through a section where you fly/glide for a good distance and if the shell was let off on the actual track, it follows you through the cannon or anything else.
And, of couse it hits you in mid-air.
They need to go old school with MK9
Thinner tracks, more laps, no flying shells, no bikes, no ble shell, random AI, not programmed. Skill, not luck based. Better/random item distrobution. I don't want coins when I'm in First, I want a shell so I can cover my ass! Literally!
@Gold_Ranger
I've played a lot of MK8, and if you're really good at it, you still win. It's not like it's suddenly all luck.
And you CAN freak out red shells enough for them to not reach their targets.
It does have issues, I admit. The much-too-wide tracks make many previously difficult stages too much of a breeze. But let's see how much of the other stuff they manage to fine-tune in Deluxe. We already know of several changes, so they just might address some of your concerns.
Tempted by the wheels as may be more accessible to some people in multiplayer.
I have a feeling this is the first major title to really show off the console's go-anywhere local multiplayer. Also looking forward to the return of classic Battle Mode and the ability to play it anywhere.
@Pod "I'm fully expecting 15+ million for Deluxe."
I should frame that comment. No way is that going to happen.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Or you could just say that you find it highly unlikely, and give reasons.
@Pod Nope, never going to happen. That would require at least 50% of Switch owners buying the game. And people like myself won't give Nintendo for this to make a point.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Where are you getting those numbers from?
@Pod You asked what I think and I think the Switch will sell 30 million units. And therefore for MK8 Deluxe to achieve 15 million in sales the game would need to be bought ny 50% of that market. 30 million is conditional on Nintendo reaching a mass market friendly price which €300 is not.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE And I shall frame your comment for that said comment.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
And is that completely unthinkable, seeing how MK8 is owned by over 60% of Wii U users?
Personally I think the Switch will sell considerably more than 30 million, but we'll see.
@Pod The majority of Switch buyers will be Nintendo fans like us. And I think a lot of us won't fork out another €60.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Thanks!
I need mario kart 9.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
It won't have to be "another" 60€ if only 8 million people bought the first version.
And since we only have anecdotal evidence and conjecture to work with anyway, I will add in the bonus information that I already know two people with a Switch that didn't own Wii Us. For one of them it's actually his first Nintendo system.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I kinda feel like an actual Mario Kart 9 would sell bigger numbers for Switch as many Wii U owners aren't going to be as tempted to play MK8 again.
This article is a Mario Kart Bazaar!
@KidRad
Maybe for you but I'd definitely say breath of the wild has had an impact lol. It's put Zelda back on the map for a lot of non-nintendo fan gamers. Anyways back to the article.... I probably won't pick up steering wheels for this one. The joycons have joysticks which is my personal preference over motion controls. I might have to grab some more joycons for the multiplayer though, I've got one pro controller and the joycons at the moment. Great when it's just me and the wife but if friends are over then we need more controllers. Has anyone tried out that controller in this list?
@Gold_Ranger
No Coins, No Shells, No Mario Stuffs = LAME.
What's so different with Boring racing games from another company ?
That's what makes Mario Kart games unique.
Don't like unique ? Want some boring racing games ?
Go for Initial D or Gran Turismo then...
@Agent721
Too bad, Shy Guy is not present at this Bazaar.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I will buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
I will show you later when I got the game.
I promise !
@Anti-Matter
I never said no coins...
Coins shouldn't be an item!
I never said no shells...
Red shouldn't follow you through the sky
Blue shouldn't exist
@Gold_Ranger
Aw, Blue Shell is your Nightmare if you don't have.... Big Horn !
That's why you should get Big Horn to Deflect any kind of attacks even Blue Shells.
The horn is extremely rare.
In all the time I've played 8, I've only gotten it twice!
I own MK8 and all the dlc on Wii U, I do not plan on buying MK8 deluxe on switch, there is not enough reason for me too. I really hope this isn't THE Mario Kart for the Switch. Every system always gets its own unique Mario Kart, but this is just a Wii U port that I already beat, I am not happy.
@Anti-Matter @SLIGEACH_EIRE
"I will buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
I will show you later when I got the game.
I promise !"
Lol.
Oh yeah I forgot about that car headrest mount. Pity I'll be the one driving the car lol
@SLIGEACH_EIRE - You are so brave!
Yet another port of a fantastic Wii U game.
It's almost like the Wii U had some really amazing game, but the general public were too influenced by gaming media that were telling us how the public didn't understand the arcane concept of a big screen on your controller to tell the public that it's a big screen on your controller and that they should not buy it because it did not meet an as-of-yet unestablished arbitrary benchmark of processing power.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The easiest thing for Mario Kart 8 deluxe is to go to the 15 million number. I wonder why you think it cannot happen. Haven't you seen the previous Mario Kart sales history?
@Mart1ndo
Like a Mariokart shop...a bazaar! They got anything and everything MK related up there! We agree!
@Alikan The selling point for me.... I'll feel like I'm missing out if I don't get the definitive edition. I still think they should find out some way to reward those of us who had the Wii U version or at least give us another DLC with a few tracks. Oh well.
I'm really curious about the Nintendo Switch Retro Fighters Turbo Controller. Looking at the pictures it looks like a piece of junk. I'm gonna see if I can find more info on it.
Will get this game and the wheels cuz I'm a motion controls type of player
@NintendoLifeStaff Where do I get the official Nintendo Joy-Con Wheels for £9.99 on Amazon.co.uk?
I've got two sets on pre-order and they're £13.99 each?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Michael Pachter called. He wants his job back!
(Already got the game on Wii U and getting again on Switch so I'm obviously an idiot!)
@Gold_Ranger I often get the horn!
The wheel accessories don't do it for me. I could never play properly with them on the Wii. Gonna need that Pro controller. And maybe some of those t-shirts.
My fellow Americans . . . Amazon (US) is sold out of the little wheels but can be readily found from big box retailers with online sites. Walmart has free shipping. Not my mode of play, but great for the kids.
