Teyon has revealed that from today the critically-acclaimed 2D shooter Steel Empire will cost just $9.99 on the North American 3DS eShop.
The 66 percent reduction in price is to celebrate Valentine's Day, and what better way could there possibly be to mark this romantic occasion than blasting through the skies in a steampunk airship?
If you weren't aware, Steel Empire is a remake of a Sega Genesis / Mega Drive shooter and is heavily inspired by the works of Jules Verne and Hayao Miyazaki. We awarded it a 9 out of 10 when we reviewed it in 2014, so it goes without saying that it's well worth picking up at this lower price.

I always wanted to play this game but I wasn't going pay 30 bucks. So this is great!
How romantic!
Don't see what this has to do with valentines day
It's about time. This is a much more reasonable price.
Oh look, the price it should have launched at!
I forgot to pick this up when it was $9.99 during Xmas. Glad I can do it this time around. Very cool.
Looks like a pretty good shoot-em-up.
If I wasn't saving for the Switch, I'd be tempted.
Was this ever released in the UK? I've never seen it before.
Nabbed it when the price recently fell to $10. It's quite a bit of fun. Too bad it was priced so crazy in the first place.
This is an amazing shooter
@NintySnesMan Let's say you have no one to spend valentine's day with and that bothers you... well, this will pass the day away in style.
Fantastic game on the Genesis!! Worth 10 bucks easy!
It never came out on arcade
YES FINALLY
PATIENCE PAYS OFF
Love is truly in the air.
I'll be buying it for sure!
I'm glad this finally dropped in price. I was interested in it until I saw that $30 price tag and swiftly forgot about it. This is what it should have been proced in the first place.
A very good game that I enjoyed. I would like more shmups like that in the future...but on the switch.
Ive been waiting for a price drop but 9.99 is still to much. Compare that price to Sega's 3d Classics and there is no comparison. Sega killed it and brought them all for 5.99 and puts them on sale quite often for 3.99 and are very well done. They got greedy on this title and thought it was their Gold Mine. No doubt the game is probably good fun. But it is basically a 3D classic from other consoles. I would buy it if it ever has a sale price on this price drop. I think had they priced it at 5.99 from the start they would have at least 5,000 ratings instead of a measly 150 ratings
Anyone on the fence. Snatch it up. You're welcome.
Wish 3DS got more Japanese shmups, crazy that it didn't get a bunch...
Quality shm'ups at budget prices are hard to come by so defo suggest anyone who's considering to pick it up at this great price. as already been said, it is somewhat easy, I completed on my first playthrough with maybe just one lost life on the final boss. Still great fun though.
Freakin' finally! That's how it should've been in the first place. You guys way overpaid your devs considering what were gonna get out of it.
Nice, though I already got it that cheap from a previous temporary Eshop discount sale. It's a great retro game.
I was able to get a copy for free, wouldn't buy a game that's a remake of a old game like this that costs almost the amount of a new 3DS game or something, so this is....better anyways needless to say.
@Windy I'm with you on this one. I'm still mad the price was so high to start that I can wait till they give us 50% off this new price. I've got plenty to keep me busy.
Didn't Know about this game but I'll add it to my wishlist to maybe pick up someday.
It did remind me that I wanted to try Twinbee 3d back when the 3D classics were released. I almost bought Xevious instead back then based on reputation but I found it for NES for $3 and was not into it. I didn't know it was an endless shooter. And by then I decided to wait for a sale. LOL. Oh well. Eventually Sega filled my 3D Classics urges while Nintendo let theirs become lost in the depths of the eShop
i wish they raised to price to 40 dollars. it would make me want it more
@eSocrates yes Nintendo has really let us down on the 3d Classics. Thank god for Sega. I hope Sega Made a bundle on their 3d classic. They sure deserved it.
I will definately pick up Steel Empire if it gets a good price drop on its new price. But its going to have to compare to the sega 3D classics in price until I buy it
