Splatoon 2 is likely to be one of the Nintendo Switch's biggest releases in 2017, thanks to the fact that the Wii U original sold like hot cakes despite the low install base of that console. Nintendo's first real foray into the world of online shooters, Splatoon won a legion of fans, many of whom will no doubt be keen to learn about the new content they'll be experiencing in the sequel.
The Japanese Splatoon account is happy to oblige in this respect, and has started tweeting information on the game, including a look at one of the fresh new stages, Barnacle Sports Club.
Here's a rough-and-ready translation:
One of the new stages, Barnacle Sports Club. It houses the latest fitness facilities including a bouldering wall, a swimming pool, and treadmills. Working out is hard, but is a sure-fire way to improving your game.
What's impressive from these screens is that the scope of the game seems to have been expanded, with levels looking a lot bigger than before. Has this tweet given you an injection of excitement about Splatoon 2, or are you already hyped after reading our hands-on impressions? Let us know with a comment.

My son wants a Switch and Splatoon 2, we absolutely love the Wii U original in our house.
Looking good! Hopefully we'll get a lot of new looking stages like this one. The one they showed off in the trailer looked a lot like Urchin Underpass but this stage is definitely a step in the right direction!
The biggest problem I see with Spla2oon is that it's exactly that, a sequel.
The original had the excitement of being something new.
It doesn't have that going for it now.
Luckily it's still fresher and more addictive than most shooters out there so I'll still be buying it. 😍
Plus 8 Switch local multiplayer, that just sounds insane.
A longer campaign solo player mode please! Buy it anyway of course!
I like it!
Looks great although why a swimming pool lol? Poor Inklings desolve in water haha.
Hmmmmm........ I wonder if we will be able to climb and shoot while hanging etc in the new Splatoon then?........ Could be an interesting addition .......
Stage looks good...but what is that Inkling doing in the bottom right picture? Do we have aerial manuvers this go round?!?
@bouncer0304
Not if your encased in your bubble tho, could scoot across the pool then?.........
Technically that is a climbing wall. If it was a bouldering wall, the height would be pretty suicidal.
@bluedogrulez I'm not sure what's going on with that Inkling,I've zoomed right in and still can't tell.it looks like they might be hanging upside down from the climbing wall?Either that or doing a somersault. I do know there a jetpack (Inkjet) which should be a real game changer.
@Dangerous25 With the switch you can love it out of your house as well!
Is that wall winding up and around the ceiling? Are you telling me that if you have the right weapon, you can swim on the ceilings too??? Dude, that'd be so amazing!
Hyped already for this! Surely gonna get it!
I'm thinking this has been delayed as Nintendo.com have posted a September 30th release date on the website. Which is more like autumn/fall not summer!
@Lord Which Nintnedo.com website has Sept 30? The US version still says "summer 2017".
http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/splatoon-2-switch
I don't know for sure, but I'll guess that date is a placeholder. Nintendo always views July, August and September as "summer", and that's the last day in those 3 months.
Plus, Sept 30 is a Saturday, and I don't think Nitneod does a lot of Saturday release dates. They do a lot of Fridays and some Sundays, but I don't recall any Saturdays. It confuses the Target employees no end as they always put the Friday release date games out on Tuesday when the entire rest of the industry releases new games. The Sunday release dates they usually just forget to put out and I have to ask somebody to go in the back and find them. I think those Sunday morning employees are hung over.
So it could be the 30th, but I wouldn't mark it on my calendar just yet. Hopefully they tell us soon though, I think Spla2oon will sell more Switch in Japan than Zelda. It's really the Witch's first big exclusive game as Zelda and MK8D are ports of Wii U games and ARMS, 1 2 Switch and Bomberman just don't seem like system sellers to me. Spla2oon is a system seller. The sooner they get it out the better.
That's some serious Matrix stuff going on right there.
@HappyMaskedGuy Remember, squids don't have bones!
This level looks impressive! I hope some of the maps will be on a larger scale. This one looks massive I would like to explore the whole map if possible
@rjejr yes it appears to have changed, also game are now listing it as August 18th in the UK.
Getting this game within 6 months of launch is very nice...
Make it bigger, badder and better and it's a win win
@Lord August 18th in the UK.
Well that's a Friday, so that makes sense. That I'd actually believe.
i just want my bucket.
@Dangerous25 Just love your avatar !!!
Does anybody notice that splatoon boy is upside down shooting. Hype level 9000
The guy shooting upside down is using the new weapon type. It allows you to perform evasive maneuvers while shooting, but apparently has a very short range. I'm guessing he is doing an evasive maneuver in this image. I doubt it is a new technique available to all squids.
@Maxz Maybe- but the squid kids will need extreme strength, minimum weight and incredible stamina in order to complete bouldering problems that high and long!
Hypothetically of course
I think this game looks very nice, I like the fun vibe, but I don't do online shooters. I don't really do multiplayer, as I mostly play alone or local co op. Is there any word on a single player story mode to this?
@OorWullie: I think I found the answer on Nintendo's website (Splatoon2 page): "New dual-wielding Splat Dualies join the action, complete with a new Dodge Roll move".
Zero gravity Splatoon? So Splatoon X MK8?
@arpaktiko thank you! Someone actually made it in Miitomo and sent it to me, I love it too! 😊
My son asks for this game every day, and I have to fight back the tears as I tell him, "sorry son its not going to be a launch title" It's going to be a long wait. But at least there will be a lot of people to play with by then, probably part of the reason for the launch date and probably a good idea ☹
I don't understand the critics about this new chapter of Splatoon.
I will buy it at the day one, and don't care about other, this will sell better the former.
@Rumncoke25 I hope there is a single player story mode to this. The first one had one (a pretty awesome one I might add!) and hardly anyone knew because it was tucked away in the game in a corner of the hub world map (Inkopolis) and Nintendo didn't do much if anything to inform people of it and sold it as a multiplayer game.
