Though the online community for Splatoon is still going strong, it's safe to say that the game has passed its prime. It got its last hurrah with the release of the new Callie and Marie amiibo this summer, and now that Splatfests are over, it seems that Nintendo has moved on (hopefully to make the sequel). That being said, the game is still receiving minor patches here and there, the latest of which is now available.
Version 2.12 is required if you'd like to continue playing the game online, and it doesn't seem to change much. The update squashes a bug that allowed players to place sprinklers inside the Tower in Tower Control, and it also fixed an issue where players could move inside certain platforms on Kelp Dome. All in all, not a whole lot to see here, but it's nice that Nintendo is still paying attention to fixing little problems like these.
What do you think? Will Splatoon receive a second wind at some point, or will Nintendo let it wind down? What would you like to see in the sequel? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

i'm pretty sure i wasn't the only one who read that headline and thought 'sequel' not 'update'.
Got to splat every last one of those bugs.
I ink that may be all of them.
Thought it could be like a Boo. Yah, hiding until they aren't looking, just to reappear.
I'm sure the developers are making sure their turf is safe, though.
@Jamotello Ha, it was a stealth release. Nintendo wanted to catch us by surprise!
Move along...nothin to see here...
T'was a (very) fun game while it lasted. I actually could enjoy this game for hours more, but I just don't feel compelled to play it anymore. It's weird.
Looking forward to playing it again when I get my Wii U back. Hopefully before Christmas.
@Kimoak
"when I get my Wii U back."
What are you saying by that? That statement has struck my curiosity and now you must elaborate.
Hmmm, my son has been trying to play this morning but it's not going past the opening bedroom screen...? He didn't skip the update or anything
@iGen I moved from the UK to USA last year and haven't been settled enough to post my console yet. I miss it. 😞
I think that game will be getting updates from time to time, that's all. And I suppose I'm done with this game too. Got 50 lvl, been in S, played nearly 300 hours. It's my Wii U all-time game. I hope... no, I'm certain that they're making sequel or some other game in this universe. It was too successfull to be buried like F-Zero or something.
Aww, still no option for non-US players to be able to say Booyah?
Any chance Nintendo are working on a 4-player split screen mode?
Okay so they removed sprinklers on the tower, but can you still put up Splash Walls on the tower? It doesn't always work, so I don't know if its a "bug" or not.
@RadioHedgeFund
Maybe in an NX sequel? I'd have settled for two player split screen in regular games myself. I bet if pro controllers had gyroscopes they would have tried that, but rubberbanding a wiimote to the controller is a bit unwieldy.
Definitely my most played Wii U game, I think the sequel will be released not too long after the launch of NX.
@SMW They fixed it so you can't put spriklers inside the tower. I think you can still put them on the tower, and you can still get walls on the tower; they've just made it intentially difficult.
Just finally got a Wii u about a week ago . Hoping this continues to have some legs so I can get some play out of it this late . Heard great things about it
It's only been a year. Why would they abandon it so soon. I mean I still play street fighter 4 on the PS3 online and that came out 2008
Yeah, too bad it's not actually playable anymore since online multiplayer support's ended and all.
@Jamotello
No, your not the only one.
Gotta play some Splatoon later and aim for that level 50 awesomeness. I´m currently at 43. Maybe 100 more hours, unless I play only ranked and win every match.
@Ikramali
It´s on Wii U, and Wii U doesn´t have too many users.
The game won't let me even play!
I find it hilarious that for months now, people have been questioning why they keep releasing updates/levels/weapons rather than a sequel.
What do you think the sequel will have? New levels, new weapons, some tweaks. Why demand they be working on a sequel when you can just keep the updates flowing to the game your currently have? The gameplay experience will be relatively unchanged once a sequel rolls around anyway.
They can't stop yet! I want a Dual Squelcher with a Disruptor, and maybe Kraken or Inkstrike; a Splash-o-matic with Seeker or Beacons and Bubbler; a 52 with Beacons and Zooka, a Carbon with Disruptor and Bubbler; a Jet Squelcher with Sprinkler and Echo, an Octobrush with Disrutpor and Echo; a 96 with Point Sensor and Wail; a Hydra with Beacons and Kraken; a Tri-Slosher with Suction and Kraken; a Sloshing Machine with a Wall and Echo; a Rapid Blaster with Sprinkler and Kraken; a Rapid Pro with Wall and Echo; a Blaster with Suction and Zooka; a Luna with Beacon and Bubble; and if we've got that, we might as well have a JR with Sprinkler and Zooka, and an E litre with Ink mines and Inkstrike. Any weapon ive missed off?
@BaffleBlend What? No, you can still play online multiplayer. Nothing has ended!
@Bigskyorbust Interest might have waned a bit, but I'm sure you can still enjoy it a lot. I'm still playing it occasionally, but not daily like I used to. But that's not a shame after 600+ hours.
@SMW Actually, I think they patched the Splash Walls on the Tower in a previous update, because apparently it was too easy or something (can't remember exactly).
@MJInnocent Which bedroom screen? You mean the loading screen? How long have you been waiting? If it doesn't load any further after that, you could go into System -> Data Management, then go into the Splatoon data and delete everything but your save data. Then the Wii U will re-download the game data.
@stinky_t I want a Dual Squelcher with Burst bombs or Point Sensor and Kraken! And a Jet Squelcher with Echolocator.
@RainbowGazelle Perfect! I love it when I manage to get a wall onto the tower.
@shani yeah I meant the loading screen, I got it fixed but thanks for your suggestion!
I still have the no sound bug
