Among some of the first news out of today's 3DS-focused Nintendo Direct was some new information about the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Moon, including some interesting insights about Z-Moves.
Truly one of the most ubiquitous Pokémon, Rattata seems to now have an Alolan form. Alolan Rattata is Dark/Normal type and can have one of two abilities: Gluttony (which makes a Pokemon eat a held berry more quickly), or Hustle (which raises a Pokémon's Attack stat at the cost of Accuracy). Once in Alola, Yungoos were introduced into the wild to control the Rattata population. However, the Rattata ended up adapting to become nocturnal to avoid the predatory Yungoos. One can only imagine how this adaptation might affect the evolved form...
Additionally, some new details about Z-Moves have been explained. It appears that individual Pokemon can have special Z-Moves (that require special corresponding Z-Crystals to use in battle). Examples of these include Stoked Sparksurfer (exclusive to Alolan Raichu) and Pulverizing Pancake (exclusive to Snorlax). These moves have unique Z-Crystal hold item requirements (Snorlium Z, fantastic name), as well as unique animations. Snorlax's Pulverizing Pancake animation sequence shows it abruptly awakening and the energy of 20 years' naps flash in its eyes before it delivers the move.
Any player who purchases Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon before January 11, 2017 will be eligible to receive a Munchlax via Internet Connection holding Snorlium Z that knows Hold Back and Happy Hour.

That picture will haunt my nightmares...
Snorlax is going to shake up that Meta.
Pulverizing Pancake once per battle instead of a Mega Snorlax. Gamefreak, I am disappoint.
I would like to add that Alolan Raticate is also confirmed as well if you read up on Alolan Rattata's description on Serebii's website.
The last time I saw eyes that creepy was when I was playing through the Deep Sleep series.
Snorlax and the Pulverizing Pancake animation was by far the best part of the Direct.
The more I see of these Alolan Kanto Pokemon (say that 10 times fast) the more I like them! I hope Johto can get some special variant love!
Snorlax please don't open your eyes....
Fainted? That Gumshoos should've been a red paste after getting crushed on by a Snorlax.
Wow, only seen a Snorlax move that fast when someone mentions an all-you-can-eat buffet.
"I have seen the bottom of death itself, and I will never sleep again" -Gumshoos
And thats how Trump got impeached.
I am planning to get this for my kids this Christmas. My son loves snorlax so he will be happy with this announcement.
God that reveal of the special giveaway Pokemon in the release period was kinda anticlimactic haha.
And I thought Alolan Raichu couldn't get any cooler. Awesomeness dude.
I'm not sure what scares me more about snorlax, the look in its eyes, the speed, or the impact.
The announcement of Snorlium Z was very disappointing for me. I was assuming that any pokemon would be able to use the Z stones, but I doubt that's the case unless they program in 730+ stones into the game.
The Alolan Rattata looks great, very badass.
@crimsontadpoles any Pokemon can use Z-moves, but usually it's by type. Z stones enable special species specific Z-moves.
@ShadJV Thanks, that's great to know.
Sees Snorlax's New Buttstomp Move
Pre-Orders
As a massive Snorlax fan, seeing it get a Z move has me stoked. Also happy about the Munchlax distribution, since it means getting Snorlax will be easy and I can playthrough another game with one in my party. That was one of the best parts about X and Y, you could catch a Snorlax really early in the game.
XD That Snorlax is pure meme material.
I am getting much more interested in Sun and Moon now, since it is seeming to a fresh spin on the franchise!
