Wonder Boy spiritual successor Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom has been shown off at this year's Gamescom, and it is looking sweet.
Developed by Atelier Games and published by FDG Entertainment, the title is being produced with the input of series creator Ryuichi Nishizawa and, along with Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, is part of a very welcome (and long overdue) Wonder Boy renaissance.
And don't forget, Monster Boy has been confirmed for release on a Nintendo console, but FDG isn't able to say exactly which one yet - presumably because Nintendo itself hasn't yet officially shown off that particular console.

Yes, yes it looks great but I was hoping for something else as the top story because WW3 I think is about to officially begin.
I'll definitely play it but man I wish the graphics were sprite based like the Shantae games!!
The opening reminds me of Dragon Ball for some reason...
... fantastic, simply fantastic!
@Dreamcaster-X
I think the sprites would be hard to see.
Its the new 3ds right?
I mean they sold us on exclusives and they wouldn't lie
That will be a launch title for the NX.
I will buy this next year for the Nintendo Navigator.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE WW3 is about to begin? What's Nintendo done now to start a world war?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
What are you talking about?
Time to unearth and finish Bonk Edge of Extinction next.
Looks very good.
@Dezzy @FragRed I'll come back to you when it happens.
@Dezzy Perhaps the NX is some kind of nuclear warhead and Nintendo have been building up an army. Perhaps Super Mario Maker wasn't a game but a device to spot those who will be best suited to joining their underground secret base... it all makes sense now!!
@TheNomad who wouldn't lie?
I love this series so much. I'm so excited about this.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Cool, great. I'll be sure to check on here in case of a potential world war!
Games looks really good .. I'm interested especially if it's for the NX
Kinda getting sensing some Mario and Zelda elements in this, deserves the N3DS
Looks very nice.
The Wii Virtual Console is a great way to play at least 7 original Wonder Boy games (all of the main ones included) and most of their clones on the NES, SNES, and Turbografx, like the Adventure Island series, Dragon's Curse, Monster Lair, and The Dynastic Hero.
1. Wonder Boy (Master System, 500 Wii Points)
2. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Master System, 500 Wii Points)
3. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade, 900 Wii Points)
4. Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (Master System, 500 Wii Points)
5. Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair (Mega Drive, 800 Wii Points)
6. Wonder Boy in Monster World (Mega Drive, 800 Wii Points)
7. Monster World IV (Mega Drive, 900 Wii Points)
Can't wait to enhance this collection with
8. The Dragon's Trap (Wii U)
9. Monster Boy (Wii U / NX)
Wonder Boy 2 "Wonder Boy in Monster Land" (for its time) and especially Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap were early examples of a Zelda II/Metroidvania type of game done right. The best one's Wonder Boy in Monster World though. One of the SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis all-time classics, with the kind of gameplay and charm that you would expect from a SNES game.
It opens with Side-Crawler's Dance as the background music??!
Do-hoho, they know how to sell this.
But I thought that song was going to be the ace up the sleeve of the new version of Dragon's Trap!
@SKTTR
I played only the Master System version of Wonder Boy in Monster World, is it significantly different from the Megadrive version?
From the videos I've seen the music sounds different, but that's to be expected, though are there any differences to the actual game? If you don't know, I'll ask the internet. :9
@Pod
I would buy the Master System version of Wonder Boy in Monster World if it was out on the Wii VC just to check for the changes in detail but since they have the 16-bit MD version out on Wii they never bothered to release the8-bit MS version. I think the only difference is in the looks and sounds. From what I've heard all of the content and gameplay is the same. Basically, no version is better than the other, it's a question of "do you like to play your game in 8bit or 16 bit?".
In that sense, the Master System port is a technical feat and for that alone an interesting one to play imo.
Only watched a few minutes, but looks lovely!
