This past weekend Splatoon hosted its final Splatfest, the regular events that have allowed teams to put on snazzy virtual outfits and fight over topics such as pizza flavourings and favoured lifestyle choices.
For plenty of Wii U owners the events have been a welcome regular routine, and their conclusion ends an era in which the shooter had frequent and enjoyable updates; as the game's been out over a year their end is hardly a surprise.
In any case Nintendo of Europe has produced a rather nice video celebrating the region's Splatfests, with some typically brilliant music as an accompaniment. Check it out below.

Wow, it's been a year already. I still remember playing the demo which convinced me to buy Splatoon on day 1.
This is great. I got to be a part of every one of them, but in NA. I wish NoA made cool videos like this and that Star Fox history one.
Still praying for an announcement that 'octolings are disrupting the festivities' or something like that and you get to pick a side and that's how regular Splatoon matches go on from there. That is like totally unlikely though haha.
Talk about nostalgia. I think the Japanese variant was set up a little better, but this was still nice to see.
I hope Splatfests will return in full glory once Splatoon 2 gets released, whenever that will be.
Man, this actually makes me nostalgic. Last summer, I couldn't play anything but Splatoon, this summer, I'm basically addicted to Overwatch. Not for the lack of games obviously but damn, these two games are just so great! <3 Pretty sure, they'll do more Splatfests when the inevitable Spla2n comes out, though.

Although somewhere along the way, I just stopped being apart of splatfests, and playing Splatoon too. I should think about going back sometime soon.

I got the dates mixed up and missed the final Splatfest
I really hate to be that guy once again, but... Team Fortress 2 is still getting updates. That game dates back to before 2010.
Almost brought a tear to my eye, I remember playing this day one, and I feel so much nostalgia, I stopped playing around December when Xenoblade Chronicles X arrived and never really got back into it, I got to do the final splatfest and it really made me remember how great this game is
I am mad they don't have splatfest anymore. So stupid. Like why can't there just be some type of permanent splatfest mode or something? The music. The night time stages. The miiverse graffiti. Everything.
Awesome I didn't catch every Splatfest but played in most can't wait for Splatoon 2 now on the NX with more Splatfests.
I'm somewhat disappointed I missed out by not purchasing Splatoon last year when it was released so I could've partaken in the splatfests.
Ah well, maybe I'll get Splatoon just to experience the multiplayer aspect or wait for the potential sequel on the NX.
This makes me wonder if Splatoon might see some kind of price cut at retail in the near future. Now that they're shuttering part of it, perhaps they'll lower the barrier to entry somewhat.
We WILL get more splatfests! Why? Beacuse splatoon stays fresh.
