San Diego Comic-Con is now getting into full swing, and in addition to a Splatoon-centric booth inside the show Nintendo is hosting its Play Nintendo Family Lounge nearby in the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina (333 W. Harbor Dr.). It's open to the public (no expo pass required) and we got to go along a day early, during which we were particularly interested in going hands on with Paper Mario: Color Splash. Beyond that we were simply keen to take a lot of pictures to share with you.
The Play Nintendo Lounge has some real treats, too, including various amiibo and - most pleasingly - the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition on display; you can bet we took a lot of pictures of that.
Check out our snaps below, giving a taste of what Nintendo's offering at this year's Comic-Con.

Questions: how long is the cable on the controller? How is the 'feel' of the controller compared to the originals? And most importantly, does the cartridge door flip up?
@GammaPhonic Controller seemed normal length?
Door is completely shut, not able to be opened in anyway. Its just cosmetic.
The controller seemed 100% identical to the original NES controller.
Dang, you could fit the small NES into the big NES's cart door and pretend its giving birth... XD
Awesome can't wait.
I would have really loved to try those UFO Catchers, especially with those plushes.
Does anyone know how long is the cord on the NES Classic controller? I don't know why but I under the impression that it was a wireless.
Pictures make it look really short...
How is the image quality on the NES clone? Are the pixels sharp? What about the menu and save states?
Also I hope we get at least a six foot cable. I haven't seen Wii CC extension cables available anywhere...
@Thumbsofsteel
It is wireless when you use it with Wii U because you'll plug it into a Wii remote, but in the case of it's primary use with the NES classic, the connector is the same as on a Wii remote. So it is wired for sure. On the plus side, you can use a classic controller for the second player without springing for another NES controller if you want to save some money.
@TossedLlama Crowd control: at entertainment and food stops you need to keep people moving along so there is a fine line of comfort that must be reached to compel people to get off their duff.
@Hamster_Overlord As far as I know no one outside Nintendo has played it yet and none of those questions have been answered by Nintendo. I will say that it uses an HDMI cable so I hope there is an option for sharp edged pixels. Oh, and it seems someone can answer the cord length question now which would be nice.
Those pictures of the NES controller cable suggest that it's very short. Maybe just for demonstration purposes I hope?
That Kirby, though! Nice!
If the cable is only three feet, i'm gonna be upset. I don't think anyone makes Wiimote extensions.
Ugh, why would they only go with Tecmo Bowl and not Tecmo Super Bowl?
Yep, way shorter than the original:

@duffmmann NFL license.
damn, that cable is really short understandable if youre using it with a wii remote. but connected to the nes mini? hmm... :/
The cable for the mini Nes is really short, that will be a problem with current TVs....
On other topic, I want the Kirby plushie on the machine.... its so cute!
Wow, Nintendo is kicking it this month, it's like a whole new company.
The picture of the system in hand, is that $79 price for the 2DS? Just checking.
Mentioned to my kids this morning there should be some good news this weekend with comic-con. I'm hoping for some Godzilla news, movie opens next Friday in Japan.
And that billboard poster is great, props for putting FF on top, showing that it isn't all Nintendo games. Insane completionist FF fans may buy 1 for that after they finish 15 and World.
Man, now I wish I had gotten myself a Comic Con ticket
@Angelic_Lapras_King lol
Holy damn that thing is small. Another note the controller wire looks so freaking small, hopefully they fix that before the launch.
@retro_player_22 They won't. They already know this thing is going to sell as is. Any things that could make it even better, they basically don't care about at this point. It's a cheap and easy to mass produce money spinner.
Eh, I don't think I want it now, knowing that the controller cable will be as short as a classic controller cable is pretty off putting tbh, and seems like I'm not the only one thinking this.
Imagine playing it, pulling in the controller, cable pulls the mini nes and that pulls on the hdmi cable too, not a good idea nowadays, at all.
And who sits so close to their HD TV now? No one. Pity
I need the Nintendo crane machine in my life.
wow so small. still can't believe its happening. as a side note, this made news in Japan, with some tears as theres no Famicom mini, or any plan to sell the NES mini in Japan, so far.
Mini NES looks like 1/3 size of original NES. So tiny...
Apparently I didn't really notice how small it is. I'll be getting one (or two) of these for nostalgia factor and a few of the controllers. Really need to hit up a pawn shop and get another nes. Perhaps next payday.
That crane game would have taken all of my money. I am so bad at them but can't walk away.
NES Mini is the direction Nintendo needed for some time, it speaks to such a huge market. I hope they sell a ton with this little gaming delight. NES games are better than most crappy phone games and just as easy to get into if you just try, let's keep gaming high quality! Nintendo saved the industry once, time to save it again.
So all i git to say is ehy use the america nes controler the japan one is better
@Alexmo Personally I think the dog bone controller is better than both the original NES controller and the Famicom controller. It's a pity they aren't also selling a dog bone controller with this as the corners on the original NES controller really dig into my hands after a while.
What i cant believe is if you live in Europe and consider yourself a gamer then how the hell can you even consider this Crap when A: its going to be played in 50hz slow clunky junk versions of games which is MEANT and programmed to be played in 60hz PERIOD and B: Nintendo's really crap Nes emulation good luck with that polluting your obviously off kilter gaming palette.
Been there saw it is very cool!
Comic con is fun
OMG woow I am so excited wooo!! can't wait to get mine! I'm following updates @ http://www.liovinci.com/i/nintendo-entertainment-system
