Now just over a month away, Monster Hunter Generations looms large as a significant 3DS release this summer. With the localised version getting closer Capcom is doing its part to get Western gamers geared up for the latest series entry.
The official Monster Hunter YouTube channel has posted a neat video that shows off one of the four 'flagship' monsters - the Astalos. It's a hefty creature, of course, but you can see a successful hunt of it below. The video is also well worth a watch as it shows how different weapons, hunter styles and arts come together to give more flexibility in how you approach a hunt.
The game's official Instagram page has also shared an image of the rather neat armour that can be created from hunting Astalos.
Are you excited about Monster Hunter Generations arriving next month? Let us know in the comments.

Are people still 'angry' over this guy's English name?
Im curious does anyone know if the visuals are better than 4 ultimate? I know i sound snobby but i played 4 for awhile on the (new) 3ds and it was pretty bad visual wise
@-Red-
People are always "angry" over Monster Hunter name changes. Happened with Zinogre, Duramboros, Nibelsnarf, Gore Magala, Najarala, and Dalamadur.
The most stupid was when one guy got upset over "Gozmazios". I mean, the Japanese name is LITERALLY THE SAME THING. People will complain, and then get over it.
I am a bit disappointed that they used Seregios instead of Steve, though
@thedillon23
What? Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is one of the best looking games on 3DS! You gotta keep in mind- it's a 3DS... not a PS4, not even a PS3, not even a Vita.
MH4U has a a realistic approach, so pixels are going to be more noticeable than a game like Mario or Donkey Kong. Watch gameplay of MGS3 or 7th Dragon 3: Code VDF, even MH3U and you'll appreciate just how good MH4U really looked.
With that said, this one seems to be improved, about as much as MH4U was improved over MH3U.
Astalos vista baby!
This game looks amazing! I'm hyped out of my mind now lol... that gameplay is so good
@Detective_TeeJay @Iggly
You guys seeing this? Aw man... count it down. Gimme a week to plow through some single player and I'll be ready
Awesome!
MH4U was an incredible looking 3DS game. Especially when the 3D feature was enabled.
@JaxonH Can't wait to play the game, though I have no idea when I'll get it since I'm broke lol. Hopefully I can afford it soon since this is a game I wouldn't want to miss!
@JaxonH The thing is, I find 3U to look much better visually than 4U.
The difference is that 3U was a solid 30 fps while 4U was an inconsistent 60; there's substantially more jaggies (and I mean bad aliasing, not raptors) in 4U, along with large amounts of texture fade-in.
Generations docked things back to 30 fps, with the result being that they standardized the Nu3DS 4U textures, with the large amounts of fade-in in 4U being gone entirely.
Anyways, the green parts of Astalos's armor set glow and pulsate; it has the skills Halve Stun, Repeat Offender (25% affinity if you land two hits in a row; 30% if you land five hits; fades if you haven't hit anything in five seconds or whiff), and Ice Resistance down. It also has only two slots.
Glavenus' and Mizutsune have better sets overall.
I cannot wait to get in on this. July 15 cannot arrive soon enough.
Though I continue to wait for announcement of a Special Edition of the game. I want to know what it'll have (if one happens) before I commit to the physical copy off Amazon.
Final Fantasy Explorers is a much better game than MH. Much more fluid and it doesn't take 30 min to hunt monsters either.
Having skipped MH3U and MH4U because I just didn't have the time to invest in those games (after playing the previous titles and never getting anywhere near completion, even with +150h of gameplay), I must say I'm really looking foward to this one.
MH is an amazing modern co-op game. Co-op being my usual favorite game mode.
This one has internet connectivity, to play with far away friends, or even randoms, no?
I am really excited for this one. Handhelds don't typically hold my attention for too long but MH is always the exception.
@Bobb i believe it does have that
@Ralizah I totally agree. The problem I've notice with almost every 3ds game though is the games looked washed out in 2d and not as sharp. In 3d everything looks more crisp. It's why I never play a game in 2d unless I have to but what's odd though is any game not made with 3d looks alright in 2d on the screen.
@thedillon23 I honestly think 4U looks beautiful by any standards, with the 3D on it gets brighter, shinier, and there's more detail in the textures. I don't know if the visuals are better in Gen but there are more flashy visual effects so that might help if you didn't enjoy the graphics in 4U
That gameplay does look amazing, and I'm hyped. My main concern is whether this game will end up being too complex. There's a few weapons I've been avoiding in 3U and 4U because they have complex controls, and I can imagine Generations being much worse for this due to the added special arts.
@Spoony_Tech The 3D is a lot harder for me to use now that I have a New model (my glasses play havoc with the face-tracking tech, causing it to break a lot), so I only use it now with games that make absolutely spectacular use of the effect (Link Between Worlds, Planet Robobot, MH4U, etc.)
If we're talking MH4U, Ancestral Steppe in particular is mind-blowing in 3D. The depth is incredible, and little things like watching a leaf in the wind blow into the distance absolutely floored me.
I play almost all my Atlus games in 2D now, though. The meager use of 3D isn't worth the jarring effect it has when it breaks on me as often as it does.
Stopped playing monster hunter when it went handheld!
The best MH games are HD online with voice Chat.
Until they go back to this me amd my friends won't play
@GameOtaku But both of those things are the appeals of MH and sales would say otherwise
@Lord Guess Whats so bad about the handheld games?
@JaxonH Maybe he played with the 3d off? 4U was one of the games that actually looked better with it on. Why I tell people to at least have it on the lowest setting, that way you still get that bump without actually have much of a 3d effect.
As for Generations, it's framerate has been locked at 30fps so they could push better visuals.
@Lord So, the only decent Monster Hunter game was 3U on Wii U?
slow clap
@Ralizah if the face tracking tech is giving you trouble you can adjust it in the settings. You can even turn it off and make it like an original 3DS.
@Lord @CrazedCavalier
We all like HD and we all like voice chat. But uh, the game is perfectly fine on handhelds too.
I'd love to see another game on consoles, but see I actually love Monster Hunter, and will play it with or without voice chat. In fact, for roughly 90% of my hunting on MH3U we turned voice chat off anyways. And with preset messages (even custom messages) on handheld, you can still communicate for strategy. The only thing you won't be communicating is casual chitchat. And if casual chitchat is enough to keep you from playing a game then perhaps you and your friends didn't love it all that much to begin with.
@aj_fowl AMAZING! I had no idea that you could turn off face-tracking. I don't know how I missed that. Thank you so much!
@JaxonH When this releases, I'd love to hunt with you and other N-lifers again. Your help with Gog on MH4U was much appreciated
@Jimmy_G_Buckets
Ah, you remember that?
I remember helping a lot of people with Gogmazios. He's a tough one if you don't have a proper party who knows what they're doing.
I remember when I first fought him, and beat him for everyone else, but when my turn came we lost on a fluke, then everyone left. I remember wasting half a day hunting him with randoms and every single time, they'd leave when it was my turn. Probably why I was inclined to help others in that same situation.
The code among hunters was shattered with MH4U, simply because so many new players joined the hunt who do not know anything but selfishness.
I cannot wait for this game. All the new monsters look amazing. I just hope there's less people online asking for help with the last urgent...
