Pokémon Sun and Moon is certainly the biggest release heading to the 3DS this year, with both iterations likely to combine for some handsome sales numbers. Nintendo of Europe has now confirmed that it'll be bringing some special editions to make the release an even bigger deal in the region.
First up is a Solgaleo and Lunala Limited Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL, which was recently also revealed for a release in Japan. In Japan it won't include any game copies, so it's likely to be hardware-only.
Nintendo of Europe has also announced 'Fan Editions' of both games, which will include steelbook cases.
Will any of you be trying to pick up these limited editions? Let us know in the comments.

i hope these come here. I'd love those steelbooks...my daughter wants that XL but I was hoping to get the smaller New 3DS for her.
NUUUUU, my wallet, don't leave me!
Or not. The ORAS steelbooks were IMO prettier.
A bloody steelbook AGAIN?
Glad I'm not bothered about any other hardware special designs that aren't Zelda based.
I'll get the Pokémon Sun fan edition if NOA decides to bring it over to North America.
That Solgaleo and Lunala 3DS reminds me a lot of the Dialga and Palkia DS Lite that I have, which is nice.
Will probably get the 'fan edition' although if any place gives something like a statue or poster with the normal preorders I'll get that instead. Also that 3DS would be nicer if it wasn't black and the position the legendaries are in is REALLY bothering me. It doesn't look right at all.
US need to get this.
Not been into Pokemon for over a decade and I'm not about to start again - but I do love the design of the Solgaleo and Lunala Limited Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL. It does look nice, but I'll stick with my New Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Edition...
And the new Pikachu new 3DS XL edition?? In North America??
I just want the pikachu XL
I'm also NA so...

@Uberchu
PlayAsia has a US version of the Sun and Moon XL listed on their site so I'm sure we'll hear something soon. Maybe the Pikachu one will follow suit as well
So the same deal as Oras, nothing else but a steel book case, and probably a pre-ordered figure. I'll still get them though, I got OR and AS in their limited editions so I won't miss out on this! Although why it's called a fan edition I have no idea. Still hoping they'll release the double pack here, or even both games on the same cart, but that'd be less helpful for trading. I guess bank exists though! I'm hyped!!
Only the Steelbook? It looks cool, but I never use it, I'll fake to not be a fan and buy the standard edition
Is the Pikachu New 3DS XL also coming?
I would prefer that!
The XL exterior looks interesting, but I saw pics of the interior and it's still that same, bland, drab, dark grey like on the vanilla black New XL. I know you're supposed to focus on the game when you open your 3DS, but I guess my old Retro NES XL spoiled me with its awesome interior. Curse You, Super Stable 3D, the sole reason I upgraded!
Congrats to Europe for getting it. I'll pass on it if it comes to NA.
@GH05T I don't know why, but that XL makes me think of cake and I want to knaw on it.
@ROBLOGNICK Us Americans are lucky to even see a steel book. Lol We get a poster from GameStop or DLC for Pre-Order bonuses or Special Editions and if they have anything different, it costs 200 dollars for a figurine with a game.
I'm still waiting for the New Nintendo 3DS Super Famicom Edition to head to the western regions. That would give me a reason to buy one... Alternatively, a N64 themed one.
@GH05T Agreed. Though I must say I do wish the analog nubs were red.
I was waiting for this to get announced. Now I'll pre-order. I was very tempted to get Moon, but a friend of mine is determined to get Moon, so I'll go for Sun.
I really love the Sun & Moon XL edition. It looks so stylish. (One with Lunala alone with a ice blue finish would be ideal!) I upgraded to a New 3DS XL this year so it's too late I'm afraid. ^_^; As for the Steel book... uhm, maybe it will be worth something in the future? I dunno, I don't see the point, personally. A nice booklet with detailed art of each new Pokémon would have been more of an incentive for me.
Gonna have to pass on the SteelBook case. (If it was even coming to NA anyways) The game cartridge is gonna be in my N3DS for a pretty long time.
I hope we get the tins in NA!
@ShikabaneHime13 but it has not been announced for the US tho.
they also have a US region white XL... US store shelves don't have that,
@Uberchu
Play-Asia being a major comapny would likely have intel on upcoming products, some correct, some not correct. Usually they have been right when early listings have popped up on their site. Even NL has referenced tem before when an unannounced product showed up on their site
@ShikabaneHime13 I guess that's true, but the white XL US region has been up there forever... so what area has a white US N3DS XL for sale?
we never even got a regular old white XL model.
I believe that they won't pack any copies of the game since pokemon is always released in two different versions.Putting both of them pre-installed isn't so smart of a move.Even if they do come with copies of the game how are we going to pick a version?
@Pokefanmum82 so everyone knows; Amazon is selling a tin case with both sun and moon in it for $90. Prime members get 20%.
@Inaruslynx i live in Canada. We got that too but our Prime membership is more about shipping and stuff like that. We don't have deals for pre-order games every day, just usually around E3. So I have to pay full price which is $140 with tax. I already have it preordered but I swear I'm also paying for the steelbook so I'm not sure it's really worth it.
Once again, Europe gets better stuff than US, lol!
@Tsurii
I still have mine! Been thinking about selling it in all honesty. Not much use, As I use my DS lite for most of my DS and GBA games, and my 3ds for everything else. Great design though!
Why are there more New 3DS variations than New 3DS games?
My 3DS has a case with six slots for 3DS games and DS games, so I don't think I'll use the steelbook.
