Earthbound has been around for over two decades in the US and about a tenth of that time in Europe, but nonetheless it's an old game. Imagine our surprise then when a new as yet undocumented part of the game came to light; pun wholly intended.
As you can see from the video below, by having a second controller connected you can mess around with plot-vital character Buzz Buzz's entrance in a way we're sure was never really intended. After all this time we're still finding new things in games older than a good chunk of the gaming public, and we think there's something magical about that.

I wonder if that's really new...
what's the deal with all these long held secrets suddenly appearing?
"I can't take any credit for finding this, but my Mum says I'm cool, so shut up."
Eh that's kinda cool
Its kind of cool i guess....
First Punch-out!!, then SMB3 and now this... What's happening all of a sudden?
@RainbowGazelle Literally sounds like a line you'd read in this game.
This pretty much confirms it - we're in the "we found out this thing from that old game exty years later" era.
@rushiosan I mean, the general idea in reporting this is that if it wasn't widely known before, it is now.
And given how fast the internet works to discover and break things, especially sites and channels that make it their job/hobby to find these things, it is kind of newsworthy when something slips through the cracks.
Bonus points if it's a game that predates the era of patches.
@AlexSora89 It looks that way, yes.
Zzzzzzzz no credit to the person that found this glitch .
I can't wait to see "Easter egg found in A Link to the Past after 20 yeears" tomorrow.
How about the secret extra features from Mario Paint?
Those aren't that well known.
Goodness, the music in this video is so loud.
I want a new dungeon discovered in Zelda. Had every bush been torched? Has every rock been blown up?
a glitch heck those people's still searching a bug glitch in earthbound,take long time to do that... and how i was concerned by this one... Awesome game so many glitch and bugs appears in random
Wow... If nintendolife gets another of those articles I'm through with it :T
I bought this for Wii U last year... I played it for a few hours and got killed in an arcade by some punks... no offense, but what's the big deal with this game?
@Hey-Cha-La maybe you would know if you made it past the intro lol
...anybody find it suspicious this secret was found as the N3DS version is out, making you want to Buy it...you sneaky devil Nintendo..
@Hey-Cha-La You probably got ahead of yourself and went in unprepared or too early.
It was something that stood out at the time, and felt like a 1990s version of Dragon Quest. It had a lot of charm in the characters compared to most games up until then, and it also had a few interesting existential questions near the end, ultimately left up to the player to interpret.
I'm sorry... I just can't get excited about this. Maybe its an acquired taste, but the glitches (the Mario 3 sliding thing, and this one) don't seem to have anything substantial to them.
Whatever floats your boat I suppose.
@Hey-Cha-La
Maybe try playing past the intro? Most games get better as they progress. This would be one of those games.
@Zombo @PlywoodStick @J-Manix98
Okay, thank you all, I guess I AM still in the early stages of the game. I think I'll give it another shot - it's been hailed as a classic and one of the best games ever made by so many, perhaps my expectations were a bit too high.
@Hey-Cha-La
Absolutely. I still wouldn't set my expectations over the roof necessarily, I mean it is a fantastic RPG, and one that I heartily recommend, but one can argue that it is a bit out dated. Personally, I believe it still holds up 100% but I guess thats for you to decide.
Also, yeah you gotta get a little deeper into the game before making any final judgements , for shizzle.
That said, hope you enjoy it! It is a great game!
