Ah, Linkedin. A site which allows professionals to connect, proclaim their achievements and even seek new adventures in employment - but also a place where job descriptions can unwittingly reveal hidden gaming projects.
Take the profile of Monster Games software engineer Joshua Ruis, for example; he's been employed at the studio - which has worked exclusively on Nintendo software for the past decade - since February last year, and has posted on this Linkedin page that he's been working on an unannounced title which seems to be based in the racing genre:
The line relating to "championship" and "career" modes has since been deleted from the entry. Those two modes would suggest that Monster Games is working on some kind of racing title - hardly a big shock, as the company has previously produced many offerings in this genre, including NASCAR Heat 2002, Test Drive: Eve of Destruction, Excite Truck, Excitebots and Excitebike: World Rally.
The studio also created the 3DS launch title Pilotwings Resort and was responsible for the ports Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. Given its track record with Nintendo, it's fair to assume that this new game is also headed to a Nintendo system - but which one? Could it be NX-bound, or do you think it's a shock Wii U or 3DS release?

Diddy Kong Racing! (Please)
Psst: Its Diddy kong (or Donkey kong) racing!
ExciteBots is the best racing game on the Wii. I couldn't stop playing this game and they really nailled the motion controls. It's fun, it's fast, and it doesn't get as much credit as it deserves.
Diddy Kong Racing 2!!!
Unity? Has Nintendo ever used that engine for a first Party IP before?
I loved Excite Truck when I first played it, and still do play it occasionally. Be interesting to see what's new from them.
Guessing an NX Launch game.
@Snader No, Nintendo hasn't. But Monster Games isn't Nintendo. That said, it's strange to think about Monster Games using Unity, as the studio did some magical stuff to run games like Donkey Kong Country Returns on 3DS and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D on New! Nintendo 3DS. They surely know their coding, so why use Unity?
I bet this and Luigi's Mansion are both coming to NX.
I was so upset "Excitebots" didnt get released in Europe it went to become my very first US import tilte for he Wii. Both "Excite Truck" and "Excitebots" are true gems IMO and I even made a original custom soundtrack for "Excite Track" that I used on the SD card. In fact, I dont even remeber the games original music. It would be very cool to have a new game on the franchise for 3DS , Wii U or NX!
When is Excitebots coming as a Wii download to Europe???????
I'm hoping for Diddy Kong Racing, but i could even see it being Wave Race, 1080, or another Excite game. Given their competence I've never understood why Nintendo didn't have this studio always pumping out racing games, especially when they're just sitting on a huge IP in Diddy Kong Racing. Here's to hoping.
@Tsurii Because those are the exact labels that are used in the racing genre specifically, so it's more or less a no-brainer that it's a racing game. And combine that with the fact that 99.9% of Monster Games track record consists of racing games and you have your answer.
OMG OMG!!! Excitebots was AMAZING, I'd even love a Wii VC release!!!
Please be Diddy Kong Racing 2... Please be Diddy Kong Racing 2...
Realistic Racer please! Nintendo needs at least one quality one.
Man, Excitebots! Its the game that made me most angry about region locking. I wanted it so badly.
A new Excite game would be swell. Hell a HD eShop port of World Rally would be just as awesome since that game REALLY could do with its brilliant online multiplayer being returned...
I was just playing Excite Truck yesterday, I love that game! I have even bought a modded Wii and an American copy of Excitebots because it wasn't released in the UK. I would be very happy to get a new Excite game.
Please be Diddy Kong Racing 2.... please be Diddy Kong Racing 2.... please be Diddy Kong Racing 2...
This could be good.
@KoopaTheGamer Exactly the point I was trying to make
New Excite game would be great. Despite breaking down and spending like £50+ to get the Japanese version of Excite Bots for my Japanese Wii, I'd still happily buy it as a download on Wii U. Let's have some love for Europe Nintendo! I did email the UK customer service numerous times about bringing it to Europe, most recently after Wii games started appearing for download in the eShop. I suggest my fellow Euros do the same!
I'm surprised how quickly that small studio can pump out games. No more ports to 3DS please.
Give me an HD Excite Truck with decent online multiplayer
@KoopaTheGamer & @Snader
If the NX is using x86 architecture then unity might be a quick way to hit the ground running until a new engine is built.
Excitebots is AWESOME!
F-Zero, maybe?? I'm sure they've earned the trust of Nintendo and lately, have been handling first party titles.
In order I'd take waverace, excitebike, some other excite/truck/bot game
Looking at that listing also it would seem that they have been working exclusively on this title since Feb as Xenoblade came out at the start of April last year and I'm sure was completed around February time
@Rob_mc_1 True. I suppose Unity works well enough for games that aren't too demanding.
I'm sure Monster Games could code an engine that works better for their games, but without a big budget or enough time it's not possible. It'd make sense to use a third party engine if they want to make a game that releases at the same time as the console.
Please be for the 3ds!
@Grawlog Punch-Out, for example. Or any other sports game, really.
@KoopaTheGamer They might use Unity if they're in a hurry to get something out by, I don't know, the release of the NX or before the Wii U/3DS are dead
@improviser I really enjoyed Mario Kart Wii at the time, but I agree that Excite Truck and Excite Bots hold up better with time. I really hope the series makes a return on the Nintendo NX, and I wouldn't be disappointed if it shows up on the Wii U.
I'll take any racing game as the Wii u has none!
None worth buying!
A new entry to the excite franchise would be welcome. Imagining Excitebots with mk8 or better visuals...woo I just got tingles.
Please excite truck pleeaassseeeee!!!
Could be that diddy kong racing that has been rumoured since the wii days?
I think it may be a suprize have for Wii U announced at E3 or a direct...
I hope. Still not on the NX bandwagon.
A new HD excitetruck would be nice. With elements from Motorstorm and trackmania mixed in.
Q) Could it be NX-bound, or do you think it's a shock Wii U or 3DS release?
A) With the NX not coming out until March of next year and Legend of Zelda U not being available for the holidays, I could see whatever their working on right now to be a late 2016 Wii U release. The information here suggests a racing game, but what kind of racing game is another question that would need to be asked.
A new Excite racing game would be the most likely thing to consider, but if I remember correctly, there used to be a lot of rumours of making Monster Games making a new Diddy Kong Racing game. It is certainly a possibility, but with those terms, many of Nintendo's racing IPs could be considered a possibility.
