Warner has released the first gameplay trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it gives a solid taster of what we can expect to see in the finished product.
Firstly, the variety on show is impressive - not only will it include the usual on-foot sections with puzzles, multiple "build" solutions and exciting combat, but you'll also be able to hop into the cockpit of the iconic Millennium Falcon or take down Star Destroyers in an X-Wing.
The trailer also reinforces what we were told when the game was revealed - it will contain plenty of additional story content to flesh out the movie's characters, including Max von Sydow's Lor San Tekka (who is in the actual film for what feels like mere seconds), Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO and Poe Dameron.
Here's the official PR:
- Blaster Battles – Players can now engage in intense Blaster Battles, seeking cover behind nearby objects and structures, which is a first for a LEGO game. Characters can then pop out from the safety of cover to fight enemies with blaster fire.
- Multi-Builds – The enhanced Multi-Builds system allows players to choose from multiple building options to solve a puzzle and advance the game in different ways. For the first time, the same pile of LEGO bricks can be used in multiple ways, with the player building and re-building different objects for different purposes.
- Flight Gameplay – Experience the thrill of high-speed, action-packed flight gameplay like never before, piloting iconic vehicles (including the legendary Millennium Falcon) through arena-based battles and dogfights in space.
The game will be hitting the Wii U and 3DS on June 28th.

The LEGO games always seem decent. But that's the unfortunate part, they are decent. I never could get into them because of how hum drum the whole experience is.
I'm very excited for this but two major question pop in my head. One, what will be the differences between the WiiU version and the 3DS? Because if they're the exact same, besides minor graphic changes I don't see why I would pay $20 more for a console version. Second would be, will this have some sort of extra mode that keeps you busy after the main story? I love the Lego games but the main problem is the content. I beat them rather quickly with nothing left after free play.
I've gotten quite sick of the Lego churning out the same game every few moths with a different sheen on it, but this one looks like it'll have some variety. The fact that the only star wars game you can play on Wii U currently is Pinball is so depressing, that I may have to get this for that fact alone. It's so weird that I have to turn on my PS3 to play super star wars...
@Spin
Yeah, they do tend to be very similar to each other particularly for the ones that are a direct adaptations of multiple movies since there's so much plot to get through. I think this one might fare better though since it's only 1 movie instead of 3 to 6.
It's a great trailer (but I say that about pretty much anything with Star Wars movie content in it), so I will be keeping an eye on it, but launch price will probably be out of my comfort zone.
I've never played much of these games. Eventually I intend to get the whole saga, but it's disappointing that Eps.1-6 aren't available in HD on the Wii U, as that's the system my family would play with and I want to go co-op on it with my kids. Are these games just 2-player co-op, or can you have 4 players at once?
Agree with everyone saying "more of the same" etc, but this one looks like it has some real love put into it rather than the cashgrabs like 'Lego Marvel 24' , 'Lord Of The More Lego' and 'Oh, another DC one? Ok. LEGO!' xD I'm really looking forward to it, especially to play with my youngest siblings who saw SW:FA as there first star wars film in cinema
I thought Lor San Tekka was supposed to be George Lucas for a second there.
@gcunit just 2 player, also the complete saga (1-6) you can pick up on Wii, I know it isn't HD but it's the closest you'll get to it, and if I remember right I got it for around $20
The dog-fighting bits better deliver, "Rogue Squadron" style or else...
... who am I kidding, I will buy it either way.
I will absolutely buy this when it gets the inevitable $20 price tag in a few months, I can't justify buying a Lego game for $60.
That being said, this really does look fantastic!
@TheBilly76414 Thanks man
Aerial combat looks better than Battlefront lol.
Quality!!
As someone who hasn't played a lego game since the previous star wars entry, excited to play this.
I find these are better when played infrequently and in co-op.
I've not bought a Lego game in a long time this might change my mind looks and sounds good and the Stars Wars Lego titles are my favorite.
Getting the special edition on PS4, would have been PC but no special edition . Looking forward to it.
This actually looks Big Budget and GREAT!
@Mrclaycoat Almost positive the Super Star Wars games are still on Wii Virtual console which is playable on WiiU.
@Mrclaycoat
There's Disney Infinity Star Wars playsets on the Wii U. There is also the Super Star Wars series on Wii VC, Lego Star Wars Saga and The Force Unleashed games on the Wii that are playable on Wii U.
I want to get Force Awakens on the Wii U but I'm waiting for WB to confirm that it'll get the same dlc as the other versions. If it isn't then I'll pick it up on XBO instead.
@Zoda_Fett So the ability to play on a big screen, local multiplayer, and potential DLC availability (which is never released for the portable versions) isn't worth the extra $20 for you?
Anyway, this looks awesome. I just hope it comes at a budget price, as it doesn't seem like it has as much content as most of the Lego games. Although, it probably won't be too long until it drops to $20, anyway.
Man this is some pretty dope Star Fox Zero footage.
@CaPPa I guess I should have clarified by saying new star wars games. When I really want is a new Rogue Squadron or maybe an HD trilogy release. Something that feels like a truly engaging Star Wars experience like what the other two systems have with Battlefront.
