Miitomo is out now in a number of countries in the West, and in its first few hours has managed to seize a lot of attention on social media. That's the whole point, of course, and we suspect Nintendo will be rather happy with the start it's made.

#Miitomo has started to trend on Twitter, at the time of writing appearing near the top of the trending list in the United States and the UK, for example. Though some are posting about it off their own back, plenty are using Miifoto to share images - the app rather cleverly automatically adds hashtags, ensuring a steady flow of tweets.

Tweets have varied from official big-hitters to lots of interesting Miifotos - we've picked some out, including some early efforts from the Nintendo Life team and friends.

The app seems to be earning some positive comments from users so far - it's tough not to be charmed by the Mii characters.
