The Bayonetta games are arguably the most recognizable works to come from the talented Platinum Games; chock full of angel slaying action and over the top finishing moves. In more recent times, the series could almost be considered a Nintendo franchise, considering the significant collaborative effort that went into publishing Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U and porting the first game over.
Did You Know Gaming recently posted another video to its YouTube channel, this one going over the Bayonetta games. It begins covering the details of Nintendo's contributions to the two games, before moving on to background and inspiration behind them. Naturally, it's worth a watch for anybody interested in trivia, check it out:
What do you think? Did you enjoy the Bayonetta games? What would you like to see out of a potential third game? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Love the first game ever since its first release on PS3/360, the second one although is so much better than the first in every way imaginable - i was just surprised on how PlatinumGames was able to get every aspect of the first game as close to perfection as possible - and by the way: the anime movie is highly recommended - its as brilliant as the games, very detailed, beautifully animated, very close to the games storyline.
Cant wait for a brand new title in this universe, id take it on whatever stationary console, NX, PS4, whatever ^^
Man the amount of salt Bayo 2's announcement generated was entertaining.
Wonder which generated more salt:
Bayonetta 2 being announced as a Wii U exclusive
or
Metroid Prime Federation Force being announced (and by extension Nintendo's E3 2015 in general)?,
Must say that I prefer the art style of the first game slightly more than the second (sometimes too colourful). But both are really great games.
When will we see a Bayonetta amiibo?
No matter how many times I see Bayonetta...I cannot get over her weird proportions. I swear her head is WAY too small for her body and her limbs are WAY too long.
I agree with invectus4000, her back and butt bothers me in that pic.
Maybe she's the daughter of Stretch Armstrong? xD
'While you're at it try asking for Mario and Zelda too'
Gotta love the guy for that alone, not even mentioning his great career. Good on him for not caving in to the whiny entititled 'loyal gamers' who felt too ashamed to purchase a Wii U but not too ashamed to whine about it on Twitter and swear a lot. Because they aren't normal people.
Ending cutscene for Bayonetta 2 was just perfect, there's no need for a third game in my opinion.
the gates of hell are my favorite sculpture in the entire world ever, and rodin is my favorite sculptor. it was great to see them in a game and shows this fictional woman has real good taste in friends and bars.
btw, look what happens when you give free reign for a developer to make a game. kimishima, i know you read nlife religiously, especially the comments. give free reign to all 2nd party devs and watch what happens.
@Luffymcduck I felt that the ending was something of a cliffhanger. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I seem to recall there being a brief post-credits scene that opened the door to a potential sequel. I think they should do a third one, I want more!
Interesting, as always!
@invictus4000 she is almost an escher girl but i think it has more to do with game design than anything. characters designed for titillation look more like the doa or onechanbara girls. similarly, street fighter girls may be ridiculously proportioned, but for fighting games, that's why they have baseball mitts for hands and male bodybuilder legs. bayonetta's ample badongkadonk might be there to accommodate the mroe extreme limb movements she does. speaking of fighters, her head is a lot larger in smash and it makes her look shorter, but also easier to recognize when the screen zooms out. they design according to the game.
@invictus4000 the super long limbs are intentional. On youtube, there is an awesome interview with the woman who actually designed Bayonetta. She goes through all of her influences and thought process behind the design. You should look it up.
@MitchVogel
Because Bayonetta games have time travelling, Bayonetta 2 continues straight from the ending of first game and ends where the first begins. Perfect way to end it, in an endless loop.
Arguably the best games in the genre. I hope her inclusion in smash boosts the series popularity further and we get a third game. I know the first two linked nicely but I don't think I could ever be bored of playing as her.
@polarbear I think it's likely we'll see the Bayonetta amiibo in May since we seem to be getting Smash amiibo roughly every 2 months, Roy and Ryu come out in March, and Fates/Bayonetta 2 rerelease will have been out for a few months so releasing her and Corrin while the games are only a few months old will help drive amiibo hype
Nice video. Very surprised the White Sage's wolf transformation in Bayo 2 is not mentioned as one of Okami's allusions. I love how P* gets away with so many references without having Capcom angered.
This video could have been 10x longer. I learned a few things, but there's so much they left out.
I'm about to beat #1 and can't wait to play #2. What's surprised me is the replay value. I've gone back to replay levels in the first one, before moving on to new levels, because they're so much fun, and I also want more halos to buy more stuff. Great game, great cut scenes and superb action!
The Bayonetta 2 Wii U announcement reaction is still both hilarious and pretty sad
@Agent721 - Yeah, I think that's the best quality of the Bayonetta games.
Just wait till you get to Bayo 2, the controls are sharper and the levels are nicer looking with more variety of enemies and challenges.
Prepare to be addicted.
@Action51
Sweet! I'm almost there!
