New Splatoon Manga Series Coming to Bessatsu CoroCoro in Japan

Love when games get adapted into Manga. Like many of them, we probably wont get them here in the west, though. Own plenty of game-to-manga adaptations myself, from Pokemon Special, to Kirby, Zelda and Devil Survivor.

We'll have to see if Splatoon makes it to tankouban format also!

@FinnTheWhovian Yeah, there's quite a bit of context Google Translate wouldn't be privy to, and it struggles as the best of times.

Firstly, it's worth knowing that Nintendo recently held a tournament for primary/elementary school kids at the World Hobby Fair in Toyko, which this tweet refers to. It was called "スプラトゥーン最強小学生軍団決定トーナメント", which neatly translates to something like "Who's The Strongest Elementary Schooler!?", and more literally (and clunkily) translates to "Splatoon Tournament to Decide Which Battalion/Corps/Team of Elementary Schoolers is the Strongest". At the tournament, is seems there was an announcement about this manga.

With that in mind, here is the whole thing:

During the recent "Who is the Strongest Elementary Schooler!?" Tournament, it was announced¹ that a manga serialisation of Splatoon for 'Bessatsu CoroCoro Comics' is in the works².

The artwork is being handled by Mr. Sankichi Hinodeya.

The series is planned to launch in the April Edition of 'Bessatu CoroCoro Comics', which will be released around 29th February³.

I hope that's slightly more useful than Google's attempt. @Blynyork might offer a second opinion. There are more literal translations possible, but I think they might sound a bit wooden.

³ The disparity between the dates struck me as odd, but then I remembered the Nintendo magazines I used to buy whose actual release dates and issue names would often be one or two months apart. I presume it's for a similar reason that the April edition is releasing at the end of February.
⁴ This is referring to the Goggles-wearing Inkling on the image, who I presume is a major character in the series and is thus affectionately referred to as 'Goggles' (or 'Goggles-Kun', if you like your nominative suffixes). It might be temporary, or might become the main title that the character is known by. Until the manga is released, I don't think we'll know for sure!

It's probably not too relevant anymore as the article has likely passed 'peak-hits', but I think I've spotted an error.

"It's going to feature in Bessatsu CoroCoro magazine, starting off with the April issue which - by a quirk of calendar dates - arrives in Japan on 29th April" should read "...arrives in Japan on 29th February".

The problem being that what you've written actually makes sense. Unlike calendar dates.

I think that comics is a great way to expand the IP. Mario is actually a great character to put into comics. They could do it like IDW does the Disney comics.

I hope they give us some actual characters in Spltoon besides Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl. It would be great to get a little depth in the characters of the game. Of course, we won't get it in the states anyways, but here's hoping our friend across the Pacific can update us.
