Mii March - AKA Mii Profile Picture Month - started life back in 2013 when a bunch of 3DS owners promoted their Miis in celebration of the console's second birthday. Since then, the movement - which involves changing your social media profile images to your Mii avatar - has grown in stature, and this year's event could be the biggest one yet.
That's because March will also see the launch of Nintendo's long-awaited Miitomo smartphone application, which is built around - your guessed it - Mii characters. The release of this app should drive interest in Miis, and encourage lapsed Nintendo fans to resurrect their character and give it some much-needed exposure.
When you consider that the Wii sold over 100 million units - significantly more than the 3DS and Wii U combined - that means there are a lot of Miis out there which have been unfairly ignored over the past few years. Mii March and Miitomo are the ideal excuse to dust these digital avatars off.
If you want to get involved, then you can join the movement by heading over to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr, and make sure you have a suitable Mii photo ready to use on those networks.

I'm very curious to Miit this thing.
As an idea, Miitomo is solid. But as the Smartphone approach.....I don't know how this will end up seeing as how the investors weren't into it....not to mention our wonderful friend Patcher.
I'm glad a lot of Mii avatars have been used on Nintendo Life for a long while.
I look forward to 'Mii March'.
Never heard of this before but since my Facebook avatar is already my Mii,might as well join.
Cool, actually never heard of this before. I love my MJ pics though, gotta represent the King...
I've never heard of this, but it sounds like a neat idea. Although I'm sure not many people who aren't hardcore Nintendo fans will participate. People nowadays care too much about their precious social media image.
I think Miis were a really good idea to begin with. I think a big problem with them, though, was that there weren't many options available... Like, you just pick which colour top you wear [that admittedly has some cool applications in games].
I don't think we should be charged to clothe our miis, but wouldn't it be cool for instance, if, you didn't have to buy an outfit for your mii in Smash Bros, as you can already dress up anyway you want. (Or rather, instead of those clothes being soley for Smash, the DLC would be a much better deal if you could take those outfits into any game with a Mii in it. (Kinda like the Xbox Avatars)
On top of that I found it impossible to make one that looks like me, so mine's basically the generic model.
I am actually looking forward to this And its just the start of Nintendo on smart devices so I'm eager to see what's next.
I think if anything this will just remind people how ugly and limited Mii creation was. I just don't see MeetaMii catching on. Well maybe with people who already play Tamagotchi Life, but not with the general public that Nintendo needs to market their hardware and games too. Nintendo Badge Arcade would have been a better choice as it shows a non-Nintendo - and thus perceived as neutral - character waxing poetically about how great several Nintendo games and characters are. Nobody cares about Miis in 2016, they are so last decade.
@rjejr I agree with you there.
If for no other reason miitomo will be good because it will be a way to communicate to other Wii U owners. Hopefully I can send a message to a wii u friend who is currently playing Splatoon and get some squad battles or private matches started much easier than now. Currently the best way is either NintendoLife Forum or posting something on miiverse and adding new friends to play with (eventhough you already have a tonne of people currently online playing). The same will be true, hopefully, for getting Smash fights going. Nintendo's current way of multiplayer management is horrid. This should make it easier (if you can do some of the things I'm assuming you can do)
Got to be honest with you; I don't think Miitomo will get any traction at all outside of Japan. Nintendo would have to spend many millions of dollars in marketing just to create some type of awareness, and I don't see them doing that for a free-to-play product that I perceive as very Japan-oriented.
wow. never knew it was a thing. i already do that and even use my mii right here in nlife. that's mii right there. wonder why nlife aren't encouraging the same here for march. TELL ME WHY NINTENDO LIFE!!! TELL ME WHY!!!
anyhoo, since there weren't any instructions on teh video, here's a short how-to for wii u-sers on how to get your mii saved as an image. you will need an sd card for this and presumably an sd card reader for the computer you will transfer your mii to. plop in an sd card into the sd card slot of your wii u. fire up your wii u and tap on the Mii Maker app. tap on the last selection 'QR Code/Image Options'. tap on the last selection offered after that, 'Save Mii as Image'. Select the mii you want to save and tap 'Create'. choose whether face or full body, then choose which expression you want it to have. tap the 'Create' button and it will now save an image of your mii to the sd card. any newer instruction for how to do it, i dunno as that's the method i used. no idea for 3ds-ers however.
The only smart phone thing I am interested in that Nintendo is involved in is Pokemon GO. Everything else seems stupid and pointless.
I never heard of Mii march before, but upon reading this, it hit me: Why haven't I used my Mii for FB before? It's perfect as a profile picture!
@Socar: Well investors are generally not known for a good knowledge/understanding of things. If you ask me, the stock market is just some kids playing around, but with real money instead of play money. Anyway, I highly doubt that investors have a clue about how things work in the tech-world or what's good and promising and what the future might bring.
Not that I find Miitomo groundbreaking or anything, it's just solid, as you said.
@Jamotello Your method might end up producing a cleaner image, but there's a method that's much simpler: Just open your Miiverse profile in any browser, right-click on your Mii and save the picture to your harddrive. Then you can upload it anywhere you want. Although for FB I had to double the size, but that's done in 2 seconds with freeware like Irfanview (Paint should work, too).
This should work for 3DS users, too, since they also have a Miiverse page.
@MJKOP Make a MJJ mii?
Miitomo sounds like a Tomodachi Life demake. :/
I can't see this doing well outside Japan, and I doubt it'll attract many new players to Nintendo consoles. Nintendo will need to do a lot more than this to succeed in the smartphone market.
@Ryu_Niiyama I have seen, and made, more than a few MJ Miis but none that I REALLY like
Wrong move, Nintendo.
Seriously, besides hardcore Wii U and 3DS owners, who cares about Mii in the west nowadays?
I'm curious about this. Hopefully it does some justice to benefit Nintendo
