There are some strategy games that don't focus on swords or fighting, but take a slightly more realistic approach by placing players in a setting that's entirely plausible in the current day. For PC gamers, the 'Tycoon' games did this by placing players in control of a fictional amusement park or zoo or something to that effect. Now, a similar game will be arriving on the 3DS in this Thursday's update: Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails.
Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails will place players in control of a train company, where you'll have to maintain trains, tracks, and schedules in order to see a profitable bottom line. Featuring in-game achievements, hundreds of items to build trains and cities with, and support for QR codes to share content with friends, this certainly is looking like it'll deliver quite an enjoyable experience. Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails will be launching for $4.99, but after two weeks, that price will go up to $6.99. Check out the launch trailer below:

Looks interesting, I always enjoy city building games but looks like this one is focused on railway networks? Lets see...
I has enjoy games like Railroad Tycoon and Sim City, then, this game looks great!!
I actually enjoyed playing Lionel Trains: On Track for DS so i pick this up if it's released in europe someday.
It doesn't release. It is going to be released.
Honestly, there's not a single news where you don't get this wrong.
@KeeperBvK Haha, and there are few times where you don't correct it!
It even used the old 3DS in the trailer...
I don't own a single game like this save for if you want to somehow count Animal Crossing. And you know what? I actually think I'm going to get this. It looks to have some formidable depth to it. I used to love trains as a kid and this looks to be aimed at the train lover, really trying to hit those nerves. I feel like the creators put a lot of work in and I'm kind of intruiged by it all. For $4.99 I don't think I can say no. I'll be interested to see some reviews first as I still usually play it quite safe regardless.
It's a pity there's not something like this for Wii U,in that Wonderful 101 style like the image at the top of the article.
Europe release planned?
A game like this I want on the Wii U.
I'd rather get an actual city builder, truth be told. Never been a fan of the Tycoon games, but who knows, depending on reviews I might give this one a try.
If it reviews well I will give it a go
This looks cool!
You know it'd be neat if Nintendo asked EA to make a new SimCity game like the old SNES one. The Wii U or 3DS is really prime real estate for a game like that with their touch functionality.
@TerrapinJess If you love trains, you should get A-Train on the Eshop. It's the most indepth sim I've ever seen on a handheld. It's like holding a PC game in your hands.
@SakuraHaruka A-Train is right up your alley if you love PC sims.
I was going to wait a bit before getting this, but if the price is going to go though then I should try to get it sooner. It's already $7.89 with tax so it'd probably jump to $10+ after. I'm more interested in the world creation feature than the main mode. I hope the game has plenty of items to create your world though.
Oh, I just saw that the price is good til Jan 31st so I have a bit of time to get it before the increase.
@Spin It'd be cool if they'd just put SimCity on the Eshop, but this is Nintendo we're talking about.
@Freelance I'll be looking into this... I'm not a HUGE train fan, at least not as much as I used to be, but I do like sims/sim-type games and I definitely like trains enough to warrant the purchase of a train sim. Thanks for the tip!
