Awards season is approaching, and colourful shooter Splatoon has already drawn ink by picking up the 2015 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Children's Award for Best Game.

The Inklings beat out a second Nintendo nominee, Yoshi's Woolly World, for the honour, as well as the console edition of Minecraft and Adventure Time Game Wizard. Splatoon received the admiration of the awards committee, but the kids themselves, in their own popular vote, went for Minecraft instead.

Nintendo UK took to Twitter to proclaim Splatoon's win, looking like they'll need to clear room off their amiibo shelf for the trophy:

So what's next for Nintendo's new IP on the awards front? Well, The Game Awards are coming 3rd December, with Splatoon nominated for Best Multiplayer, Best Family Game, and Best Shooter. If you haven't been to The Game Awards' nominees page to check Splatoon out in the Best Shooter category, you're missing out on a couple squirt gun-brandishing squid-kids frontin' in a gallery full of stereotypically epic brownish-orange action shots.

Whether they win or lose, that, our friends, is disruptive beauty.
