Super Mario-Kun is a manga series which has been appearing in the pages of CoroCoro Comic since 1991. Created by Yukio Sawada, the series is coming to Super Mario Maker in the form of a special costume.
In addition to allowing his own unique take on the character to appear in the game, Sawada will also be designing his own level, which will be made available on November 6th. It's not yet known if the costume will also be made available on the same date.
Super Mario-Kun follows in the footsteps of Famitsu mascot Nekki and GameCenter CX's Shinya Arino, both of which are coming to Super Mario Maker as special costumes in Japan.

Still waiting for slopes...
@whodatninja You and me both.
Nintendo should use that sprite whenever they get around to making a new 2D Mario game IMO.
@TheRedCap30 Yes. Yes. And once again, yes. Well actually, let's throw in a last yes.
I'm hoping for a massive Mario 2/USA expansion. And/or some Super Mario All Stars skins (the latter being more likely!)
Mario with a creepy permanent smile?If it comes to Europe I'm going to avoid all the levels that use that costume.
@TheRedCap30 And a Lou Albano skin, complete with wrestler moves.
his name is just mario.kun is added after the name just like san,chan or sama.kun is used for young man.its friendly but not as polite as san wich is used mostly for people older than you.not gonna do a japanese 101 here but his name is just mario.
@ottospooky That game plays SO differently, though, I'm not sure I'd like how out of place it is, even though it might be my favorite 2D Mario.
I'd rather see a Super Mario Land or Super Mario Land 2 theme, along with a few more stage features that bring the game up to pace with all past entries.
@bro2dragons it is really different (it's not strictly speaking a Mario game after all) but its omission does leave a bit of a hole. There's no way there could be any sort of crossover between that and the other games, which all share DNA. But if they could pull it off as sort of standalone DLC without crossover, I imagine it would be quite popular!
I'm waiting for the Santa costume for Christmas.
I wish Nintendo would localize the Super Mario-Kun to the west.....that can be their first step in expanding their business.
@Artwark That, and it would be great to see them.
@SuperWiiU I'm waiting for the Decemberween THnikkaman costume . . .
Can this also come to America, please? I would use this in all of my SMB 1 levels.
It's unlikely, but I'd like to see these costumes released outside of Japan. Even though I won't recognise the costume, it's still fun to try out the mysterious costumes.
We better get the outfits as well! what would happen if we played a stage with the outfits in it? would it just be a random one? shouldn't be.
The manga has a French translation, so it's possible this could come to America/Europe.
There are Japanese designed levels online. Would these costumes be playable in the US if a part of someone's uploaded level?
@ottospooky The former is impossible
Looks so much better than those plastic 3D models.
