Club Nintendo was discontinued in PAL regions on 30th September, meaning that fans around the world are now simply awaiting news of its successor. Bizarrely, though, the actual catalogue is still active in Europe, and if you have leftover stars you should be able to get some downloadable treats.
When you browse for Club Nintendo on the official site you get a message confirming it's discontinued along with a sign-up box for future updates, yet if you go directly to http://stars.nintendo-europe.com/, you can still browse and 'purchase' goods with leftover stars.
We suspect that ordering physical rewards will end up with rejected orders as they're processed, but with our limited remaining currency we've successfully picked up a couple of desktop wallpapers and a 3DS HOME Theme download; in each case we got the relevant codes and files right away through the automated process, and the HOME Theme code redeemed as expected on our system.
It seems like someone's forgotten to click a button on the Club Nintendo service, so we suggest acting fast if you've got leftover stars and want to spend them.
Thanks to DoctorOverbuild for the heads up.

I assume it's not a button left unpressed, but I kind gesture to all the people who failed to reach the website in the last 2-3 days.
I'm going to get a download code for my final reward. Still waiting for my trophy to be sent.
Yes I just tried my luck in Australia earlier today, since I had forgotten about the closing date and still had stars left. I was still able to order something luckily.
A Nintendo rep told me yesterday the star shop will remain open until Friday 5 pm CEST, because of the heavy traffic the last two days.
You may wanna check out Nintendo Australia's Twitter.
Cool, I used up all my stars before I went to work yesterday afternoon, but I couldn't get on last night to try get something for my son and nephew, who still have a few stars left. I'll try later today! RIP Club Nintendo, thanks for everything! Bring on the replacement, I'm excited
All the told-you-not-to-leave-it-to-the-last-minuters are once again foiled. Spent my 7000 stars this morning.
The add to basket button wasn't doing anything in the chrome browser on my phone, but I tried my default browser and it worked straight off.
A customer service employee of Nintendo told me that it was because the servers couldn't handle all the people trying to access the Star Catalogue lately and Nintendo would like to give their fans the chance to spend their last stars. So it is on purpose that Club Nintendo is still online.
@Nintendzoey
It's extended until the 8th on Australia. Nintendo AU tweeted.
@Nintendzoey I also think Australia's is now going until October 8th for some reason
Cool, nice to see Nintendo put the Star Catalogue on extra life support. I was able to get an extra Home Menu with my leftover stars. Farewell, Club Nintendo; it's been fun... and I'm sorry for noticing you until Smash.
The reason for this might be that the catalogue could not be accessed for a while in the hours prior the scheduled shutdown. But who knows... Oh, I just see, scamander said something like that already.
Moreover, last night I realised already that the website for exchanging Stars into Nintendo Points is also still active (and fully working; I got a code on 1 October) and can be accessed independently from the actual stars catalogue! So even if the catalogue may eventually be closed, it's worth trying if Nintendo may have forgotten the Nintendo Points exchange page.

All you can get with 150 stars right now are some pitiful ring tones or wall papers anyway, so I'd rather just let them expire, honestly.
I got an email from them apologizing because of the problems they had on their site for the last few days, they are leaving it open to redeem stars until the 2nd of October at 5pm CEST
Here´s the email I got from them, it is in Spanish but it basically means what I just said:
Estimado usuario,
Atentamente

NINTENDO IBÉRICA S.A.
Nintendo Europe has given Club Nintendo a 1-up life. That's always good because the last few days, Club Nintendo has been inaccessible, I just got a few downloaded games and that MarioKart 8 CD.
Yeah, I noticed it this morning and got two 3DS home themes. After that though they did discontinue it and there was a message saying so and asking you to sign up for email updates about the successor.
Looks like it's been revived again. It's the undead club Nintendo!!
Expected this news very much after not being able to log in for days. Well, the last points are gone now. Bye bye Club Nintendo.
Doesn't work, I can't put anything in my basket.
EDIT: Ah, now it does, but only with this link: http://stars.nintendo-europe.com/?price=desc
@shani My download code Aura Aura didn`t appear.
@shani Yes, ofcourse I received via Electronic-mail, CLUB NINTENDO LIVES ON.
Nintendo are still accepting all physical reward orders from Club Nintendo. Just bought the Mario Kart 8 CD for 3000 stars. It sucks that the goodbye CD sold out.
@TheTeaStirrer I own that soundtrack. but not your one. You own that soundtrack but not my one.
CLUB NINTENDO IS IMMORTAL.
Annoyingly, you can't look at "my treasures" which means I'm unable to download any wallpapers previously bought!
@James1993 You've tricked me !
@DoctorOverbuild Man, that sucks. Maybe if you look at your internet history it may show the link to "my treasures".
@TheTeaStirrer Sadly I haven't been on my treasures for a while and I can't find it! Oh well I got a super Mario maker wallpaper anyway haha
Thanks for letting us know. I really wanted to get the Luigi Diorama or one of the Soundtrack CDs but the physical items weren't working for me. I just blew my last 8000 or so on a few games, the last exclusive Home Theme and ... 100 Wii Points, which I later found to be completely useless.
Such a relief though, at least I got something...
Now make the replacement useable in Scandinavia..
Just spent over 7000 stars on things I didn't really want or already have in one form or another.
(I live in Denmark and had a uk account because our club Nintendo closed in the 90's. Normally I use my stars when I'm going to the UK and get my stuff sent to the hotel or where ever I'm staying, sadly that wasn't possible this time as I didn't have the time.. Really wanted that Dark Moon Diorama )
@Moon You had 8,000 stars remaining? you could`ve purchased two soundtracks (did you) and another physical item. You have now used them all great!
@James1993 I got Punch Out, Mario Tennis, Alleyway, the Mysterious Murasame Castle and the Toad theme. Completely gutted I couldn't get the Luigi figure, but it's at least better than the nothing I was expecting to get.
Good on Nintendo for making an official extension. It could have said 'tough luck kiddo' and let our stars rot, but it is honouring the arrangement. +1 for Nintendo.
nice! shame i don't have any stars left but whatever! at least CN EU download code is still available which is nice!
I only had 400 stars left, so bought the 100 points card. Those points are only redeemable on the shop on Wii mode, but it seemed better than wallpaper or ringtones.
In NA we did not get an extension just like we have not got anything to replace Nintendo Video or Club Nintendo yet.
I just redeemed my last 50 stars for Pikmin ringtones. One of the three included is a good tone for waking up.
