Update:
It's now been confirmed that amiibo Festival will arrive in North America on 13th November.
Original Article:
Nintendo's showing at E3 this year didn't exactly receive universal acclaim, and many Wii U fans in particular didn't react favourably to the reveal of Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, which serves up a board game approach to the series as opposed to delivering a full 'main' HD entry in the franchise.
The response was certainly negative overall, yet it remains a key Holiday release for the big N, not least because it'll be the vehicle for its own range of amiibo figures - a range that continues to expand. Nintendo has now released an extended showcase video for the title which gives an idea of some minigames and features in the title, including amiibo card usage and the range of characters that'll appear; you can check it out below.
In addition Nintendo of Europe has confirmed a 20th November release in its region, along with details of bundles and an amiibo triple pack.
It'll be interesting to see how this one performs in stores; perhaps the unhappiness of vocal fans won't be reflected in strong sales numbers, or maybe it'll struggle to convince gamers it's worth a purchase. Time will tell.

I hope nobody buys it.
I also hope nobody buys it.
Jeez I hate when people bash on a game when they haven't even played it. Stop being butthurt over no new animal crossing (I still think it's too early for another one, since we just got one in 2013), and just give this game a try before you say things about it. Now to bring my speech over to the Metroid fans. But honestly, my biggest pet-peeve is when people bash on a game before they have even played it
@Nintendo_Ninja Sorry to inform you but I'm buying it
... This game has no shame. Just who is this game for?
I'm gonna try my hardest not to buy any. Just like with the Pokemon amiibo. I don't want my inner collector to kick in and I end up with 100's of these. Wish me luck ☺️
Sadly I want K.K. but rumor has it that NA will be forced to buy a 3-pack to get him.
The important part is I can buy the figurines I want individually, without the game.
For example, I do not want the game, but I want Isabelle and Digby.
I also am not interested in Reese and Cyrus, but I do want K.K. Slider.
Thank goodness eh?
The figures will be the ideal present for my 6 year old AC mad Niece to go with Happy Home Designer, but I wouldn't insult her intelligence with the Wii U game.
Price?
"yet it remains a key Holiday release for the big N"
Man, this is sad in and of itself.
@Sherlock The digital version is free, but you need an Animal Crossing amiibo to play.
The Retail Version is 60$ which comes with the game, two exclusive amiibo figures (Isabelle and Digby) and three exclusive cards (forgot who they were).
The retail version is kind of a rip off but I want the amiibo and I like physical games so it's perfect
@TheAceofMystery in fairness, this does legitamately look like an awful game.
I've been waiting since day 1 for an amiibo centric game, but nobody is going to confuse this with Subspace Emmissary. Or Nintendo Land even, though I suppose that's the confusion people are hoping for. It's certainly not Lego Dimensions, Disney Infiniti ity, nor Skylanders. I think this does make Happy Home Designer look like a AXA title in vomparison, maybe that was their hoal?
@JaxonH You drawing the line yet, or will AC amiibo lock up your holiday bonus?
I'm buying it but really just for the Amiibo. I wish we had gotten a full entry but I'm not upset. Every game can't be a main release I'm interested in. And I'm sure they've for a full entry in the pipeline. They'd be fools not to after New Leaf's sales
if this comes to NA, i'll get it for my gf for christmas
@rjejr
Oh I absolutely want all those Animal Crossing amiibo. I have an unexplainable draw to Animal Crossing characters. They're so adorable arent they? I gave in and started collecting those AC Amiibo cards, and just got the New 3DS bundle (that 2nd faceplate was too awesome) but I did put on the Fire Emblem Fates cover plates
Looks better than it did at E3, but still is a "simple board game" and as such, I have no interest whatsoever in playing it. That's not because I wanted a new full AC - I've already had my fill from New Leaf. There's just not enough in this to justify a purchase for me, even if it is free with an amiibo. Some of the amiibo I may still pick up, but not to play the game. There are too many quality games out there to waste my time on something that has so little appeal that I balk at the idea of even trying it. No, I can't fully know what it's like before I play it, but I can tell from what I've seen that there's nothing that draws me in and lots that puts me off. Just going to move on to something else.
going to get this game so i have something to play with my kids. My daughter isn't big into video games but this one is right up her alley. Plus I want all the AC Amiibos lol I love Animal Crossing
Can't wait to buy this. Looks adorable !
Doesn't matter if people don't really like the idea of this game. Amiibo sells, and their are many Amiibo collectors and Animal Crossing fans that will want these Amiibo's no matter what. Even I, not really a fan of Animal Crossing, am interested in this concept and its amiibo. So they will sell.
Awesome, I can't wait It will be a perfect "dinner game"
I'll be grabbing this for my kids and I together. They like Animal Crossing and are currently having fun with Happy Home Designer. Plus I want a few of those Amiibos.
I am just not interested in this game. I'll gladly get some of the amiibos, but not the game.
There seems to be nothing interesting about this game and I watched everything they showed us up until now.
This game's only excuse for existing is selling more amiibo to use in a "game" that seems to have nothing interesting or even fun in it ....
I hope that I'm wrong because I hope that Nintendo won't stoop so low, but everything they said/showed about this game points exactly in this direction ....
Turn the negativity around my people. Just look at it this way: If you're interested in the Animal Crossing amiibo, you can buy them separately or with the bundle, which means you get the game for free.
Looking forward to this
@jedikitty Same. I wasn't initially pleased with it, but it looks like a Mario Party game without the weird things that have been done in the more recent games. To top it off, the amiibo line looks great!
Honestly they could have just sold the amiibo and I would be fine with it. Maybe I'll ask for this for Christmas so I don't have to pay for it. I mean it could be very fun or complete crap. Still looking for a Main Wii U release for Animal Crossing
The more Animal Crossing moves away from its own concept, the more it alienates its fans. Many people I know are skipping both HHD and this... thing, despite being enormous fans.
This stuff is even annoying my mother, and she's about as nuts about Animal Crossing as humanly possible (which is a lot). But she said herself that this game is just a lousy Mario Party clone, and the amiibo reliance makes the whole point of the game even more ridiculous.
But this "exclusive deal" is just as pathetic as pre-order bonuses. You have to waste about twice as much money on two figures and three cards than the actual deals is worth - talk about a new lowpoint, Nintendo.
I'm not going to buy the game but I do want to buy Tom Nook so I can put him alongside bowser and ganon on my classic villians shelf
@JaxonH You put FE plates on your AC 3DS? Only you. And yes, they are cute.
After watching the video I was even thinking it looked like a cool game - if they took out the dice and board game parts, or limited that to 1 minigame. At about the 2 minute mark the hub reminded me of Nintneod Land, the way Wii Sports Resort was Wii Sports 2. Then at the 3 minute mark it reminded me of Disney Wonderful World on the 3DS, which I haven't played, but looks interesting in that life sim sort of way. But I can't get past the dice. Though if it's a free download and I pick up Mr. Resetti amiibo I can try it out for myself, as I don't understand Japanese.
And while I agree w/ you that off shoots can be good, som epeople really liked Nintnedo LAnd, I think for this game you need the game before the offshoot, and if Wii U had New Leaf 2 last year and this now, like 3DS had NL before HHD, then I think people would be less annoyed, they would just say - I'll pas on this garbage and keep playing NL2 - but Wii U doesn't have a full blown AC game, so it doesn't need an offshoot yet, cart before the horse. And Wii already set the precedent of having an AC game on a home console, so they can't, like w/ the Pokemon games, say they are only meant for handheld. So I understand the overall disappointment and people not willing to even give this game a chance.
I'm an Animal Crossing fan, looks like it could be fun if playing with other fans.
Looks as if customizing your board/town makes for a dynamic experience.
Not saying I'm going to buy it, always good to wait for reviews. If the cards are cheap enough, I guess.
No. The only good thing these spin-offs are doing is making me want a main series game now.
Will the figures have any functionality with Happy Home Designer? I have my eye on Nook and K.K. but I probably wouldn't get them if Festival is the only game they'll work with, I like to play with my amiibos, not just display them on the shelf.
My only problem is that it's not really a game. It's like taking a snakes and ladders today and giving it to modern board gamers. It's half-assed picture book and not a game.
@Captain_Gonru - "You don't actually fish, you land on a space that shows you fishing, for instance."
After watching the vid once I was pretty sure you were wrong about this, but after watching it more closely a second time it looks like you are correct. There do seem to be 2 interactive parts - falling on the balloons near the beginning, which looks like it might happen when you first start the game and the amiibo falls to the podium, and wac-a-mole. All those other photos in the scrapbook which reminded me of Disney World on 3DS probably aren't interactive at all, and it looks like they make up 80% of the game. And that's just wrong.
The game does seem to have some placement of objects like in the Nintnedo Land hub (which should be Wara Wara plaza) but that seems really limited.
Too bad. I think if you got to do everything they show in the game - like Disney Magical World, which in retrospect I suppose is AC w/ a Disney skin - it could be AC but w/ a board game thrown in, but if 80% of it is just watching where's the fun in that? Doesn't make any sense. Could have at least tried to put amibo in a Final Fantasy Explorers type game, which didn't review well, but at least they tried.
http://www.siliconera.com/2015/01/02/final-fantasy-explorers-sounds-fun-but-has-issues-that-need-ironing-out/
A Free Realms type game would have been nice as well. The cost o fall the amiibo probably could have assured they never ran out of money.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Realms
I think this looks kinda neat, but I wouldn't have anyone to play it with so as much as I love Animal Crossing it wouldn't make sense for me to buy this.
(I'll definitely get one of the amiibo though.)
I don't think I will get this game, or at least not pay for it.
The amiibo yes, I want them all. The cards, maybe a pack to see how they look and then put them in a drawer, @rjejr style. I wonder if the 3 pack will be mandatory in US or if all 8 can be bought individually.
I wouldn't mind the game, as something sorta like mario party without the craziness is right up my alley. However, I highly doubt I'll buy it full price. The Amiibo's however are ADORABLE! Will probly try to pick up at least 2 of those.
I like board games, so I'll buy it. But the Animal Crossing amiibo cards are a total ripoff!
@Kaze_Memaryu Your mother is an intelligent person, and Nintendo should have listened to people like her before making this monstrosity.
If i can get the Amiibos im fine, the game can stay on the shelf.
I have no interest in Mario Party games.
A missed opportunity in my book.
I'll buy one Isabelle amiibo and that's it. Don't care about the game or any of the other amiibo. The cards are seriously overpriced. I may get a Sable amiibo if they ever release her...
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad if no amiibos were required. There have been other board game party titles such as Fortune Street, so there's nothing wrong with the concept of an AC Party game by itself. Requiring amiibos for the game to function, however, is a total ripoff. (And no, I'm not keen on the Skylanders concept either.)
It sounds interesting in theory, but what are you going to do if you lose a figurine somehow? What if you wanted to "play" this "game" 10 years from now, and couldn't find the appropriate amiibo? Amiibos are already basically the equivalent of DLC/micro transactions in physical form, but requiring them just for the "game" to function is treading into the point of no return for Nintendo. They're (animal) crossing over onto the dark side of DRM enforcement. It's like a sick joke.
Even for free, this game costs too much. Nintendo should be the ones paying people to experience the torture of watching Animal Crossing be mutated into this grotesque form.
@sinalefa The US will only get an eleven pack, sold only on Nov 20th, only in Kmart, and there will only be 1 per store.
OK, actually as Jax has been pointing out over the past week or so the amiibo supply does seem to be improving. I am surprised though they are all launching at once, Skylanders, Disney and Lego D have been trickling them out, like the SSB amiibo, 11 on 1 day seems like a lot, better I think to do 4 a week for 4 weeks leading up to Christmas. Something like that, I realize that math doesn't work.
Somewhat related, do you think we get an ND before Christmas? Doesn't seem like they would have much to say. Yoshi is out 2 weeks from tomorrow but you'ld never know, and w/ SFZ and ZU being delayed, what's left? XCX is niche. Which is a shame, b/c any FF game gets tremendous exposure for about 3 years before release. This should be better than FF13 1, 2 or 3, but nary a peep. Though Amazon did email me today to tell me my collectors edition will be arriving on Dec 8. But JRPGs are still niche. But not so niche they coudln't market it a bit. But an ND? In honour of Shulk, I'm really not feeling it.
This looks like a cheap man's version of Mario Party. It's hilariously bad.
@rjejr Just to let you know, the first home console Animal Crossing game was on the Gamecube, not Wii. So there have been 2 home console iterations.
I will buy the Amiibos but the game looks lame, I couldn't even finish watching the video.
@Wouwter Did you read the reason right after the sentence?
Sigh. I'm just not feeling this game at all. Why didn't we just get an Animal Crossing U and implement the concept of this game into it? I'm not even sure about the amiibo...
Oh well. Since it's supposed to be free (right?), then maybe I'll just play it and see what it's about, but I'm really miffed.
However, there's a high chance this game would be well received in Japan. 'Cuz it's Animal Crossing.
After watching some of the video, I think I'm going to get back into New Leaf. Just because. XD
Will buy it, play it and no one will stop me.
I <3 animal crossing ! (that`s na butt but heart )
@rjejr
I would not say 11, since the 3 pack can be gotten individually. They are actually 8. And the Resetti batch seems to come later, so not all at once. Eventually we will see 12.
Jax is right, even here in Costa Rica you see Villagers, Falcons, Little Macs, it's crazy. People complaining of lack of stock are hardly trying. Unless it is Europeans and Gold Mario of course.
And what you don't know, we will get a ND in December highlighting the beauty and depth of Amiibo Festival But in all seriousness, they could focus in Yokai Watch. 3DS deserves some love too and with no Pokemon Level 5 has a time to shine. For Wii U the choice is Mario Tennis. Hardly getting excited about, but we haven't seen much of those games.
@RainbowGazelle Thanks for that. So now can we say there are 2 1/2 home console AC games? Maybe 2 1/4? Hard to judge from a japanese video when I don't speak any japanese.
Looks like it was actually originally a port of an N64 game, so it does go back a ways.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Crossing_(video_game)
Maybe Nintnedo can release the Gamecube version on VC, they did promise Gamecube on VC at somepoint didn't they? Maybe when they were talking about dual Gamepad support?
@sinalefa Oh man, I'm always forgetting about the 3DS. That new Zelda game is out in about 2 weeks as well. I suppose that means there is enough stuff to have an ND. But will they? dun dun dun (that's supposed to be scary dramatic effect music, not sure how to spell it)
@Captain_Gonru So I'm doing some AC research, and I see that the Gmaecube version hooked up w/ the Gameboy and took you to a special tropical island? That sounds kinda cool. I'm starting to see why you are upset. 3DS version and Wii U versions should open up so much potential. SSB has 2 versions, and the 3DS can work as a controller, but AC seems like it could have been a great game to offer 1 save for both systems, w/ a real experience on each, just dumbing down the graphics on the 3DS. Seems like they did so much more connection back when you actually needed a cable, and the Gamecube must have been much more powerful than the Gameboy, but AC and FFCC managed to work together.
So, my research found that AC on Gamecube was i't s7th best game. I wonder if it would have replay value if released as VC? You know, as soon as Nitneod egts around to Gmaecube VC on Wii U? But is it different enough, or would throwing in a Wii disc be the same thing? Seems like the original might have been better.
http://ac.jvgs.net/gcvscf.htm
The original remastered w/ online and vid/voice chat support sounds like a potential winner. Still don't understand why WW HD but no others? What have those guys been working on, WW HD probably sold well, easy money.
Thank heavens I'm skipping this "game" and the amiibos. Too much money there is not worth it IMO. Starting by the fact it's for a game that nobody asked for in the first place. People who think the same should vote with their wallets and let Nintendo know that. And since I'm in America is probably going to be a nightmare to get the AC amiibos so yeah. I'm totally out. Looks like the only remaining game I'm going to buy in 2015 is Xenoblade X...
@VeeFlamesNL Yes, what of it? Do you want to make this even sadder?
I don't have any interest in this game, and I bet most others don't too. It's not a great idea considering the audience of the series, and even worse, they are marketing it with the intent of buying four amiibos to get the full experience. Not saying the game will be horrible or anything, in fact, there will be some who enjoy it. But it's just a silly thing for Nintendo to put there resources into, and I doubt it will sell too well. But hey, I've been wrong before.
@rjejr
And actually I just remembered we are due the Club Nintendo successor so there is that too.
I hope Tom Nooks will actually be a rare one. The irony of making it go for $$$ figures would be hilarious.
@TheAceofMystery To be honest I'd say if you've played Mario Party then you've already played Amiibo Festival. It's the same structure moving on a game board, playing mini games, and collecting bells(or coins in the case of Mario Party)
i honestly don't get why Nintendo made another party game for the Wii U in AC form. they should've just made a new legit AC instead honestly.
Even though its a mario party wannabe, it gets points for having the characters separately, and not in a silly car like the last mario party games had.
I haven't bought a WiiU yet. Looking at this game... I think I may wait a bit longer. I am definitely pining for those distant times when you could buy a game and content wasn't locked behind a pay wall. I guess I'm just old fashioned.
I love AC. But this? No thanks!
Amiibo has become a big focus for Nintendo recently which is cool as they are selling well. Just not cool for me as I'm not into them...
@rjejr
On Nintendo Direct: Good call about Club Nintendo successor by @sinalefa, which also means the whole new account system and let's not forget that the Nintendo mobile game was said to launch in 2015 wasn't it? Yoshi, hype up Mario Maker success, 3DS games, Wii U Tennis and sneak peak at progress on StarFox and /or Zelda to remind you why you should go buy a Wii U at a newly reduced price. Plenty of potential for a Nintendo Direct I think.
I have a deep hatred for Amiibos. It's a No Buy for me.
@aaronsullivan @sinalefa I'm not expecting the new Club Ninteod until next year, closer to the NX launch - which I think will be announced in Feb or March for a Nov release. It's not like the entire world doesn't already know about it, at least 2 other companies already announced games for it. And they haven't exactly been talking the new Club up. I think they've talked about not talking about the NX more than they've actually talked about the new Club.
And yes I'd really like to see something about Zelda U. It's one thing to delay a game - Uncharted 4 got delayed form the end of this year to next - but they keep talking about it. Same when Batman was delayed. When was the last time we've seen anything new from Zelda? Last Dec during that awards show when the 2 devs were talking about how both Zelda and SF would be out in 2015? That's a long time of nothing.
So yes, OK, I'll agree, plenty to cover in a new ND. But it's now October and it still just feels like we aren't getting one. I really wonder if Iwata's passing didn't totally screw Nintendo up. I know it's a japanese company so they probably don't have the insane dramatics that a western company might have, bu tI can easily see th ecompany split in a number of areas - how much time to devote to DeNA projects, how much time to devote on 3DS vs Wii U projects. Do they hold stuff over until NX. Should htye abondon homes entirely. Should they spend more on advertising (see Sony's Playstation Theater in midtown Manhattan). Should htey license more - I Swear Frozen stuff is everywhere but Mario is in hiding, even w/ SMM. Whore that plump italian plumber out there. So I'm wondering if the company is suffering form any inner turmoil. Not that it wasn't already there before - Iwata apologizes on Twitter for a bad E3 showing but Reggie says it wasn't an apology? You can't tell me there isn't any resentment brewing from Reggie's demotion.
A new ND may be the last thing on anybody;s mind.And even if it's on the forefront they may have more important things to do w/ their time, like alleviate amiibo stock woes.
Sorry if that's all a little deep for a gaming site, but I wonder. Where's Miyamoto's Projects Guards and Giant Robots? Still in development, or waiting for a green light to release? Things just can't be running smoothly when you fall from first to third and then have your President suddenly pass away. And smartphones ever looming.
This game just doesn't appeal to me, but the amiibo look very nice so I'll pick some up.
@TheAceofMystery source digital is free?
I will be buying and playing this game in the US, and may pick up the 3 pack if funds allow, or a a single fig.
I'll need at least 3 figs so yeah, but plan on getting them all, because AC
@aaronsullivan "newly reduced price"
OK, now I feel bad I didn't comment on that bone you thru me. If there is an ND, Wii U better get a price cut. But I think I've given up on that as well. The lame line-up this holiday has me uninspired that even that could do much good. Maybe $199 might matter - alongside a Ninteod Selects line of good Wii U games for $20, not that stuff they threw out there for 3DS - but I don't think $249 would move the needle. Have you seen all the cool PS4 special editions? W/ Uncharted 4 looming in the winter (March 18 is winter). Wii U will sell to a few parents this holiday for all the toys-to-life games (not named AC:aF) but I don't think a price cut gets them many more sales at this point.
I'm seeing a lot of negativity here, but for an electronic board game this looks really good. It's cutesy, seems to have a lot of customization options and board events all with their own little skits as well as the minigames etc. If this came out on the Wii or Gamecube people would have loved it. Mario Party is in steady decline and Fortune Street isn't that popular over here so this could be a good fit. It seems people are more opposed to the cards and amiibo than the game itself but amiibo have been pretty divisive since day one. I'm just saying, chill - this game looks neat and i'm sure kids will love it.
I won't be buying this game or any of the Amiibo's, but if they ever make a Lyle Amiibo, I'll buy it!
I'm not sure about the game yet, it could go either way, but those amiibo look really nice.
This is the only game I've seen so far that struck me as existing for the sole purpose of getting people to buy Amiibo, and in the most cynical way possible. I don't see what it offers for the vast majority of players who could be interested, and I'm assuming that the fact that the game feels like an excuse to make another line of Amiibo to sell to collectors is what makes most Nintendo fans upset. I wouldn't have bought it anyway, as I'm not a big AC fan, but it does feel cheap and cynical.
@sinalefa Which begs the question first of why we should need to genuinely try to buy these things. As far as "hardly trying" goes, I've only seen those three Amiibo in person on launch day in North America (I'm in Florida). Luckily, I don't want any of those three, but had I known the Wii Fit Trainer would be impossible to find, I would have gotten it then. It's eBay, Amazon, lucky preordering, scalpers, or nothing for the vast majority of Amiibo where I am, and it annoys me that I typically need to follow an Amiibo Twitter account just to know when a preorder is available to get the handful I do want, or know I'll never see them in person unless I want to fund a scalper or wait in line at a store at 8AM for the potential to be allowed to spend my money on them.
It will probably sell pretty well, just because of what it is and all the amiibo and card collectibles type stuff, but I don't think that means it's even close to what most people really wanted to see from a new Animal Crossing game.
@Depends on how you view amiibo. Nevertheless, anything that helps amiibo sales (sort of) is good for Nintendo. So yeah, it's not as sad as you might think it is.
I'm still not interested in either the game or the amiibo. I'm so sure the amiibo will be freakin' hard to get.
@Kaze_Memaryu This looks nothing like Mario Party. Being a board game dosent make it the same.
I've never said this to many people, but...I've NEVER been an AC fan, and I think it's by far Nintendo's worst designed series. It's always just looked...ugly to me. That being said, if I ever did have to play one, this Mario Party look-alike actually looks rather nice, and may help me pretend that I'm playing Mario Party instead. The keen use of Amiibo here is also nice. So...I have no idea why people were so excited for HHD, but not this. I'd pick this game up any day over the other really...not that I'm buying it, since again, I think the entire series itself just looks...blegh.
@MarioPhD
I agree buying those amiibo at launch was very hard, but restocks have happened, making it easier to get them and forcing scalpers to lower prices due to extra stock. Recent amiibo are getting easier to get so it seems they are being produced in bigger quantities now. I hope your local stores get more variety.
@sinalefa Ditto, and thanks! Mario, Link, Bowser, and Peach are everywhere, but little else, and I have multiple Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Gamestop, and Toys R Us locations in my city. I've only ever seen any of the Splatoon Amiibo in the flesh because I preordered the 3-pack from Walmart online, and I've never seen (and don't expect to see) the likes of Rosalina, Bowser Jr., or Metaknight. I wish Nintendo would simply make them available through their online stores and create enough to meet demand and split the rest among retailers, but alas. If I can get a Wii Fit Trainer at retail price someday, I'll be mighty happy, however.
@amiiboacid It's the exact same concept. Up to four players throw dice to move their characters over a board and collect a minor currency. Every now and then, the game throws an interactive minigame at you that can get you even more currency. The one with the most after a certain set of rounds/somebody reaches the end is declared winner. The only difference is the Animal Crossing reskin.
@LordGeovanni Actually dude it shows him in a single pack in the pic there. Pretty sure its gonna be more like the Splatoon 3 pack cept without an exclusive. Still super mad about not being able to get that elusive green squid. Damn splatoon devs for making him exclusive.
Here's a radical idea; play the game before you bash it into the ground. We have barely seen anything yet and I'm going to buy it because it is animal crossing and the amiibo are rad! Let's wait and look at the game objectively when it comes out. Wind waker caught a ton of criticism for its art style up to release but it turned out to be one of the greatest games of all time. Now I'm not expecting a wind waker from this game but don't count it out yet.
So, from the video it looks like fun enough. I don't know know though. I've already pre-ordered a bunch of AC cards and I'm trying hard to resist the figures. I keep thinking "just KK...oh and maybe Resetti, and if they do Pascal, and it would be weird not to have Nook....no STOP!" Having the game would be too much of an excuse for myself.
Pascal would break me though. For once I hope Nintendo is not reading. I've bought enough toys from you already dammit!
@TheHunter There's no confirmation as of yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they acted just like their respected amiibo card form. Ex. Tom Nook figure and/or Tom Nook amiibo card both allow you to create Tom Nooks home in HHD. But they could always throw us a curve ball and make exclusive items that only come with the amiibo festival figures (which would be bull in my opinion). I think the former will be the game with this figures.
@Nintendo_Ninja
Why? You think Nintendo will give us what the fans SAY they want just because some spinoff bombs?
@rjejr
No, I've wondered about how deeply Iwata's passing has effected Nintendo as well. Star Fox delay is to make it better, but let's not forget, Shigeru Miyamoto was co-running the company there for awhile, right? Of course that had an effect on Star Fox and his other projects. It also seemed that Iwata-san was a very hands-on leader. That means that other people's roles there probably leaned on his input heavily. Couple that with the emotional ties to Nintendo Direct. You seem, like me, to see that as entirely wrapped around Iwata-san. It was infused with his personality from the start. He set the tone. Do you reset that tone? Do you try to honor it? Tough choices.
Also, I just imagine how intrusive stockholders have been and how Iwata had constantly held them at bay. It's probably very fortunate that the mobile deal happened before his passing as it seemed to placate them considerably.
Plus, these people seemed to be friends. Mourning can be quite the ordeal.
You want to believe the wheels just keep on turning and everything pushes forward, but a little wheel spinning in place seems completely natural.
Which brings us back to what can happen before the Holiday season. I don't know if we'll see the best foot forward new direction and new identity for Nintendo yet. I think there will be a big strategy for that upcoming for 2016, but I can't imagine Nintendo letting the end of the year slip by without a concerted effort and blitz of advertising just to keep things going. Mario Maker is doing a great job of staying in a positive holding pattern, but it's time for something encouraging for Nintendo fans and at least eye-catching for all the other gamers and families of toy/game buyers.
Looks like a boring version of Fortune Street...so...yeah.
AC amiibo Festival looks really boring, but it's more of a Mario Party game than Mario Party 10.
Don't really understand the hate for HHD. People keep using the reasoning that HHD strays from what makes Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing. Well yeah, of course it does - it's a SPINOFF! It's supposed to deviate from the main games. No different than Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or all of the Mario spinoffs.
On a side note, I'm pretty sure both HHD and amiibo Festival were developed by smaller teams that weren't lead by the usual producers and directors. Most of the people who are usually behind the Animal Crossing series were busy with Splatoon. That's why there's no main series Animal Crossing game on Wii U.
The amiibo look cool, but I have zero interest in the game.
@Chromatin12
So I guess you completely missed the point that I said North America instead of the European tweet messaged above? Like I said, rumor has it that na is going to have a three pack exclusive (not to store, but three amiibo pack) just like Inkling Squid, Retro 3-pack, and (soon) Mii Fighter 3-pack.
@IceClimbers - "Most of the people who are usually behind the Animal Crossing series were busy with Splatoon. That's why there's no main series Animal Crossing game on Wii U."
Thanks for that. I'm always wondering what different dev groups are working on, trying to figure out what games we have or don't have or when we get them. W/ some companies it's easy b/c they primarily work on 1 game - Naughty Dog is working on Uncharted 4, media Molecule on Dreams - and some are open - Square Enix has been talking about FFXV for 10 years, and we'll probably be hearing about Kingdom Hearts 3 for another 10 - but Nitneod has so many groups, and they are so secretive, I never seem to know who's working on what, or not working on what. Like where's my Super Mario Sluggers and Super Mario Strikers sequels? And then I have to figure out what HAL and IS are working on. Gamefreak and Monolith I pretty much know.
It never would have occurred to me that AC people made Splatoon. I know they both have cute creatures but gameplay wise they are pretty much complete opposites.
@Captain_Gonru I just can't imagine Reggie actually does anything except give the go ahead to people who ask him questions and prepare financial reports for Japan. He just doesn't strike me as taking any initiative, coming up with any new idea, pushing the envelope, anything except answering peoples questions. Oh, and being the Regginator. He just doesn't strike me as a driving force. Probably a great boss for his underlings on a daily basis, but I see no vision, feel no energy, he's just...there.
@aaronsullivan Well I suppose you're right, they still have some time to market Yoshi - which comes out 2 weeks from today in NA, though I haven't seen a lick of it anywhere - and Mario Ultra Tennis, and XCX, and all the AC:aF amiibo. They could still do some thing, but it would be like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Lego D, DI 3.0 and Skyaldners have been marketing machines for months, and that's Yoshi's competition. Though I know the yarn Yoshi will sell, too cute. Heck even I ordered the game bundle and we don't collect amiibo.
I feel like Wii U has been at 10 mil sales for 2 years. Not MK8, Not SSBU, not Splatoon, nothing has set it on fire. Last holiday they had 2 great "gamer" game exclusives in Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2, yet they didn't really market them, choosing instead to go all in on SSBU. If they didn't go all out to push Wii U last holiday, why would they even bother now?
So yes ,they will probably do something, but by the time they get around to it will anybody care? Maybe they'll just go all in on Link and HHD on 3DS?
@rjejr Well, if Nintendo does nothing or very little, it will be a pretty clear sign that Wii U will only have one 2016 sputter left before passing the torch to whatever NX is going to be, right? I mean, what's the point of trying to generate new sales of Wii U after an essentially skipped Holiday. Momentum counts.
I'm super curious about what form NX takes and for some reason I'm optimistic. I think it's because at the core, Nintendo is still making games I consider to be exceptional. It isn't adjusting well to HD and translating its style and theming into something that is still universal. Not to mention its vision into something relatable. But, then, I sit down and get sucked into Mario Maker, or lament my lack of time for playing in general because I don't get to play Splatoon enough, I even love diving back into Nintendo Land occasionally with my son. Fall and Winter is coming so I know we'll be playing more as a family, too. So... it's hard not to be optimistic about what Nintendo has for us next until I imagine it as a hybrid handheld/console that is all compromise. Then, I turn to my oft-ignored 3DS and sigh.
@Captain_Gonru Demos are good.

Well, it looks like something big will be announced but it's not going to do anything positive for Wii U I'm guessing.
If you don't want to follow link, basically a big hint that new Nintendo will debut the new DeNA partnership mobile game sooner rather than later and we should expect the unexpected.
@aaronsullivan - Super Mario Maker. Have you played it? I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done on a phone or tablet. Well the creation aspect, you still need the buttons to play. That's how they will get people to buy the game, level editor while at work, play it when you get home.
Or Zelda DeNA. Oh that comment section would be fun.
Oh, I did click on the link. Interesting read, but more rumour and speculation than anything else.
@rjejr
I don't know if I can even venture a guess. It's so out of step and Nintendo is a quirky bunch.
Problem with MM is that there is a constant back and forth between editing and playing so, it's not a great candidate for mobile (I'm slightly obsessed with it actually though time isn't permitting much).
Zelda has potential, but almost every property does if it is taken from the right angle.
Animal Crossing? That would be a major slap in the face given how Wii U and 3DS get spin-offs and mobile would get the true version.
F-Zero with tilt controls. I'd laugh but someone from the comment section here might reach through the internet and smack me.
@Captain_Gonru Ah man, I was in Target yesterday and walked past the kiosk and thought about checking but decided "What's the point, we already have SMM at home." I missed Yoshi? Man that's what I deserve for being so negative. A demo 2 weeks before the game is even released, maybe I am wrong about them this holiday, Yoshi is too cute to ignore.
@aaronsullivan Maybe StarFox?
Once upon a time I owned an iPod Touch and a Hasbro 3D viewer and it had a space fighting game on it. Played it for 5 minutes, it was fun. Slap a Starfox skin on it and your all set.
Thanks for cheering me up.
@rjejr
Perfect!
Two things:
@Captain_Gonru @aaronsullivan Just saw a commercial on TV on cartoon network, Animal Crossing HHD, nothing about amino or the cards. Then, about 10 minutes later, a commercial on the same network for SMM. It's a cornucopia of Nintendo advertising.
Begun, this holiday marketing has.
@Captain_Gonru One thing I've accepted about Ntinedo - but completely disagree w/ - is they never seem to advertise anything until after it's out. I can see how it makes sense not to advertise something people can't buy yet, but thats not the way it works for movies, tv shows, or videogames. So yes, no Yoshi commercials until the amiibo are sold out. I pre-ordered the bundle from Amazon so I'm good.
And the reason those kids were playing the SMM (does the S help?) demo is b/c their parents won't spend $300 on a Wii U.
@Captain_Gonru Played the Yoshi demo in Target this morning. Not impressed. Went in all excited that I could just play a normal game w/o staring at the Gamepad and using the stylus like in Kirby, but it felt so stilted. I didn't like auto hopping between the 2 sides every time I tried to walk past a door, and I didn't like the swaying aim line - I really hope there is a way to disable that in the game, or somebody should get Yoshi to stop drinking. Right stick should work fine for aiming. And Y or X for flipping sides - I'm pretty sure 1 of those wasn't used. Oh, and it was also annoying b/c after 15 hours recently w/ Legend of Kay I'm used to A for jump, but B, or maybe it's the other way. I'll get used to that, but basically I need to learn Yoshi, what happens when he eats something, does he throw it or spit it out? It;s just very different from a typical platformer set-up. Still sure I'll enjoy it sitting on the couch rather than standing in Target, but my excitement is way down now. And the demo music was too depressing, I need happy Yoshi music, not a death dirge. Oh well.
@Captain_Gonru I think I played 3, 1 looked too green and generic, so figured I'd skip to 3. I'm sure it will play better from the beginning at home, but now I expect more of a learning curve than I previously had expected. Hopefully I'll be done w/ Kay in a few days so my fingers aren't so used to that button layout.
