Rodea the Sky Soldier isn't due in the West until September, but publisher NIS America is keen to build interest through any means it can. A rather fancy collector's edition is one option, certainly.
The special edition below is available on the NISA Online Store for either the Wii U (with the Wii version included) or the 3DS.
It comes with the following:
- Rodea the Sky Soldier (3DS™ or Wii™/Wii U™)
- 5.25" x 7.75", 35+ page hardcover art book
- 10-song, single disc original soundtrack with jewel case
- Collector's box
- Bonus Item: "Key of Time" Pendant with Chain
The Wii U limited edition has a price tag of $74.99, and the 3DS equivalent is $54.99, so it's essentially an extra $15 in either case for the extras.
Kadokawa Games and localisation publisher NIS America will certainly be hoping this title fares well in the West; early indications from Japan are that both versions have struggled badly since its launch.
Are you tempted by these collector's editions?

I really hope they bring this to Europe. I love Yuji Naka's work.
Wait... It's on the Wii U? And here, I only heard about the 3DS version...
What I really want to know is...if the game's actually good. From the gameplay videos I've seen it looks like very cramped empty levels. I would love to just wait for a review, and I hope that's before the game comes out so I can choose if I'd want to get the first print two-disc copy. Yuji Naka is amazing, and my favourite game that he's produced is Billy Hatcher....which I haven't played in 10+ years. I don't know if it's as good as I remember but it had to be decent if I had loved it fondly.
$60 is still too much in my opinion for a Wii game, especially this one. It looks mildly interesting, but not for that price.
I kind of want that special edition. Just not sure if I can get it since I'm from Canada.
The special edition looks interesting, but I'm more concerned with the quality of the game. Guess I'll be waiting for a review before I decide if I want this or not. I'm usually into this type of game though so I have some hope.
I hope they announce a similar edition for Europe. Please correct me if they have done so previously.
I did preorder the regular game. I don't think I need all of these extras, though.
If it's out on all 3 systems, it won't be the best of graphics and probably won't be a big change in any system...with the fact that it will be HD on Wii U. Other than that, this looks like a title to play on the 3DS, but hopefully it sells well on the Wii U to try and get some more publishers making exclusives for nintendo platforms...at least help nintendo to help with their next console.
I share the sentiment of wanting to know how good the game is before taking the plunge, specially $75.
Yes, I'm tempted.
Hmmmm... I am kind of a sucker for a cool special edition, and since Nintendo seems intent on not making any for the Wii U, this might be my only opportunity to add a Wii U game to my "special editions" wall.
@Pokefanmum82 I live in Canada and I pre-ordered it yesterday. I can confirm that NISA ships to Canada as I recently ordered the Firefly Diary from them. (Pretty awful game but really nice LE set)
Got it preordered on Wii U on shopto already, but I'll cancel or change my preorder if we get this special edition in Europe
@vyseofhr
@gordjscott
The NISA Europe Facebook page said they intend to bring it to Europe, they just need to sort out some things before they can open up preorders.
Get this to europe and take my money
Will definitely be picking up the collectors edition. I have been interested in this game for a while now and glad to see nis releasing a collectors edition. Its also great that you get two copy of the games it just surprises me why the wii version has multiplayer but not the wiiu version?
I picked this up a couple days ago. If anybody is going to get this game you better preorder the Wii U version because that is the only way you are going to get Yuji Naka's "original and real version" which is the Wii copy. The Wii U game is a port of the 3DS game which was not made made by Naka.
@Furealz: It's definitely still a great game (been playing through some classics on my N64 and GC lately) and I'd hope Rodea would provide just as good an experience.
@Octane
I think you get the Wii-U version and a separate copy of the Wii version. So hopefully the Wii-U version at least looks a little better. I'm excited for it. Maybe it will turn out to be pretty good and be a success for Yuji Naka.
I need to save money.
Show me the PAL version and ill buy it instantly!!
@rdrunner1178 From what I understand, the Wii version is the definite version. The Wii U and 3DS are ports done by another company, and they seemingly run at a lower framerate, content was different as well iirc.
Do we have any other info about this game? I'd like to see some general gameplay from both versions. (If it was posted before, forgive me, I'm working my way back a few days since I don't have the luxury to check up every day:))
Um...a friend of mine went to Japan and brought me back two Rodea The Sky Soldier plushes!
Um...this looks like such a fun game.
@Rhydas pre-ordered opened up two months ago for the european release.
