Based on the hugely popular Japanese anime, the latest Nintendo Direct has revealed the ATLUS title, Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, will arrive locally on the 3DS eShop in May - that's in North America and Europe.
The title will feature four-player local and online co-op gameplay, along with leaderboards, as players work together to defend the outer walls against giant Titans. In addition it'll support the c-stick on the New Nintendo 3DS or the Circle Pad Pro. As an added bonus, the first two episodes of the Attack on Titan anime series are now viewable for free on the Nintendo eShop until 30th June.
Let us know in the comments if you're looking forward to taking on the Titans and defending your turf in this upcoming 3DS eShop title.

Just the other day, a coworker recommended the animation to me. I'll definitely keep my eyes on this
I sure hope the anime episodes are age-restricted. It's not Pokemon.
@dkxcalibur The manga it's based off of is good too of course, if you're into those.
Not sure what to think about the combat yet. If it is all timing based like in the video with no real time combat I am not sure if I am interested.
pass, does anyone else feel the environments in this game are incredibly generic? they should have mentioned the direct was atlus themed ahead of time, i mean its cool for fans of the genre... when are we going to see another nintendo platformer?
Altus themed? Smash, amiibo, mario kart, indies, for emblem, yoshi, xenoblade. Should I go on? But I admit this just looks weird
I'm usually in board for whatever Atlus does but this does look a tad generic. Will keep an opened mind though but this might be the first Game Atlus localized that I won't get.
My life is legitimately complete... Just wish they made a physical version too...
Now this looks cool
Eh, I prefer the manga, like every anime adaptation of a manga...
The overall presentation of the game is representatitve of the manga itself: seems pretty cool at first, but is actually very bland. I'll never understand how people can praise Shingeki no Kyojin for the godawful writing.
FINALLY IT COMES TO AMERICA
I might look into this game, though I find the anime meh I recognize the scenario is well suited to a video game.
Now, what I REALLY want is a localization of Dragon Ball Heroes...I don't want to travel across the world for an arcade game or spend the $150 to get the game+Japanese system, only for me to be unable to read it. I don't care about the promos (though I want to start a collection of the cards, I recognize selling a game in NA with Japanese cards would be silly) so it could be EShop exclusive and all. Anyone else agree?
SIE SIND DAS ESSEN UND WIR SIND DIE JÄGER!
Oh God I hope this game will be good.
Are the episodes downloadable or streaming? And when?
Please reconsider making a physical release. :
Omg this is amazing news! THANK YOU ATLUS AND NINTENDO!!
On the one hand I'm a slave to Atlus...
On the other Shingeki no Kyojin is garbage...
Tough stuff.
can you download the vids or do you have to watch via eShop?
HOLY CRAP YES YES YEEEEEES!!!!!!! besides youkai watch this is what i wanted. would rather have physical copy but ill take what i can get. so awesome!!! AND ON TOP OF IT ALL ITS RATED M!!! i'm getting this the second its on the eshop. made my day.
@edcomics
No age restriction on the episodes.
Also, they are only viewable, not downloadable.
@Kaze_Memaryu
It isn't the writing that hooked me, but the situations and the mysteries. And the music.
SnK is really good in that aspect.
@VR32F1END
They are already in the eShop, they are lumped into the icon with the game. It is a really bad choice to do that.
I have been waiting for this game , YES!!
Really happy with this. Love the anime and manga so any chance to get some Attack on Titan fix while I wait for the second series is good in my book.
@No-longer-postin Nintendo just needs to redo the eShop layout, period. We all understand Nintendo wanting to make the eShop "cutesy and fun" because that's what they do. But in terms of game and app discovery, the store is an utter mess. (And I'm still waiting to see when we're going to get a proper username/password login from Nintendo instead of this convoluted NNID mess. Hopefully, before I'm an old man.)
Gutted this isn't on Wii u but noticed the episodes are on Wii u e shop so can't complain much!
@Tsurii897 the fact that you 'can't wait for people to get disappointed' shows what kind of a person you are really.
i suspect this game would do better over here if it didn't involve fighting giant naked men, reskin them as mechs or demons and it would sell more..
however i'm sure this will do well by its fans which explains the digital only approach
@TheMONADO36 I thought that, bit negative to get excited about others disappointment. I like the show, can't get the game but I'm not happy if others are not.
@No-longer-postin The irony behind that, however, is how much the terrible plot gets praised - a plot that becomes easily predictable around the third volume of the manga. I don't see the mystery, I saw it coming several miles away (which is why I dropped it).
@Tsurii897 Hahaha! True! Time for some Schadenfreude.
@TheMONADO36 Impressive, you can analyze people through generic fonts!
no physical release? aww I'm out of room on my 3DS
I don't know. The gameplay I saw in yesterday's Nintendo Direct didn't really impress me. Being able to play online is great, but only if the combat is fun and deep. Hopefully they will release a demo, or maybe there is something I am missing from the gameplay I saw. Who knows.
Oh, this is an eshop only game? Looks like I'll have to pass then. I would have gotten it day one if it was physical
starts up the first episode, and hears the opening
Wha?!?
goes into panic mode, as last time he was playing L4D, he was using a mode to replace the Tank music with the AoT opening
Oh phew…
realises it is just the Anime
A Tank smashes through a wall and beats him to death
Does anyone know if the episodes are dubbed? Also, does anyone know if the episodes are available on Crunchyroll dubbed in English?
I have a coworker who watched every episode on toonami and they were dubbed. After seeing the news that this is coming out in game form, it's peaked my interest enough to finally watch the series.
The show was pretty meh to me, I didn't really understand the hype while I watched it. The gameplay also just looks like a beautified version of the Attack on Titan fan-game. (You can find it if you search "Attack on Titan fan game" it's a unity-run browser game)
Why those anime episodes aren't on the anime channel is mindboggling. But its Nintendo after all.
This looks like some weirdo poopitypoop lol
any word on the possibility of a demo or suggested eshop price? cuz if this is gonna be one of those 30$ games, I will have to pass. It looks to me it should be worth at MOST 10$, likely in the 7.99$ to 14.99$ range.
