Rodea The Sky Soldier has had a somewhat tortured development period. Originally slated for the Wii and overseen by Sonic creator Yuji Naka, the game has since been rebooted for the 3DS and Wii U under the eyes of Kadokawa Games when Naka bailed on the project.
The fact that Rodea is getting a release at all is cause for celebration, but we've further good news - according to Kadokawa Games president Yoshimi Yasuda - who has been speaking to Famitsu - a western release also seems to be on the cards:
It took some time to deliver [Rodea] to everyone, but the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and Wii versions were rebooted. I think that we can share some sort of notification of a overseas release in the near future, so overseas users please look forward to it.
Are you still interested in Rodea after all this time? Let us know by posting a comment below.

So happy, so happy!
Never doubted for a second that if the game would be released, it would also get a western release.
Yuji Naka's fame is too well known!
Hopefully Europe and North America also get the bonus Wii version included.
Yes! This game looks great, and a (good) new Wii U game is always nice.
So what type of game is this supposed. A action platformer? Rpg? adventure?
I really hope this turns out to be good, im really looking forward to it
That concept art looks superior to the game footage we've been shown.
Awesome
Totally unfamiliar with it but that art looks awesome. Theyyyyy have my attention.
EU pleaasssseeeeee!
If that piece of art is supposed to be indicative of the game, I'm very interested. I hope it's a physical release--but sounds like it might be. I'd like to know more about this one.
I don't think the game is going to be anything at all like that art...
Well if it doesn't have all the QTEs that afflict other action games I'll give it a look.
I don't even know what this is, really.
Wow the art looks awesome!
I've been waiting for this game since before Bravely Default was released. I used to get them mixed up. I still want it.

I never believed for a second this game would make it to the West! Or at least that was how I felt after the game went dark for a few years and was believed to be vaporware.
"West" still doesn't fill me with a lot of hope. It could mean "N. America OR Europe," not both. And given NOA and NOE track records lately, I wouldn't be surprised if it only meant the latter.
@Sean_Aaron
Besides chunks of God of War, what other action games are QTE-driven?
Hard to believe this game still not out yet.
@Quorthon: Well I mean feature them heavily. It really turned me off of Wonderful 101, I just hate them. If you want to show me a movie in the middle of a game, just show it; I'm not doing timed button presses to watch it and pretend like I'm playing a game. It's not hard to find others, but Bayonetta (also Platinum - they seem to really like them) would be another that springs to mind. Ninja Gaiden 3 and Resident Evil 4 had them, but they were mercifully brief so far less egregious.
i saw the trailer for this. looks pretty cool.
It would be a bit interesting if Nintendo was the one publishing it in the west.
So A Game with little cred, and a long and arduous development cycle is likely getting a western release, but we can't have Fatal Frame?? a game that has some ground in the West! Don't get me wrong I'm glad Rodea is coming to the West, but I still can't understand Nintendo for not releasing Fatal Frame.
Man, here we go, people rave about a game they know nothing about, little to none marketing is done for it, the game bombs horribly both in western markets and Japan, people blame the failure on the developers/producers/publishers for releasing an upscaled wii game and declare that the game had no chance whatsoever. Optionally, the game might, or might not be great/horrible, but hilariously that is the least important thing in this crazed days when everyone interest is just games that can "save" the Wii U.
Might as well jump all the steps and go straight to the part were the public just utterly ignores this game.
This game is something I'll likely buy no matter its quality. I saw the WiiU/Wii bundle on play-asia, its something I would really love in my collection.
If I can get the Wii U & Wii version in English, I'll be happy. Not so fussed about the 3DS version, but it's the Naka-designed Wii one I really want my hands on.
I hope they localize the Wii U version and not just the "likely to succeed" 3DS version. Though I guess the localization would be the same for both, so it would be a total waste to not release both.
And the game actually looks fun.
@Yomerodes You never know, this could turn out to be the Wii U's Shadow of the Colossus. There's so little information, and the game has been in development hell for so long... Who knows?
That said, it is a given that no one knows what games like these are, since physical stores like Gamestop devote about as much shelf space to the Wii U as the 3DS and Vita... Which is to say, not very much.
It's true that Nintendo has done very little marketing, but the physical stores stocking so few games is not helping. Of course perception of the system is going to be low when half or more of the shelves are lined with PS3 and X360 used games, with most of the other shelf space being PS4 and Xboned stuff, then sticking Wii U into a little cranny with the 3DS and Vita stuff.
There is massive shelf space manipulation going on in Gamestops; if shelf space were sorted according to sales volume, the 3DS would have the most prominent display.
yeah, I'm very interested in this game, mainly for the 3DS version
Definitely interested.
I've had my eye on this one since it was first shown. I hope it gets a physical release and not just on the e shop.
Inerested, but will they announce a release date? It's been a long time coming.
Provided it gets a physical release over here, then I'm very excited indeed and will more than likely get this game. That said, I certainly wouldn't mind if it didn't come about until next year, my wallet looks rather uneasy about the amount of games I'm wanting to get this year already.
