Nintendo has already - based on millions of sales worldwide - hit the hardcore demographic for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and now seems to be stepping up its efforts with those still on the fence. When popping open our UK 3DS today we had a SpotPass download waiting for us... sort of.
European 3DS owners may find a SpotPass notification waiting for them, and a precious software slot is taken up with a window for the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Special Demo. It's not actually downloaded to the system, but selecting the window brings up a prompt to grab it from the eShop. The demo is also on the eShop right on the front page, having appeared in the region in this week's download update - though it wasn't mentioned in the download update press release. For those in North America it actually popped up on Boxing Day (26th December) at the close of 2014.
This Special Demo, lest we forget, was originally distributed around the world through various promotions - we distributed thousands of UK codes here on Nintendo Life, for example. It includes a small storyline, a free Glalie holding its Mega Stone and more.
Are any of you still on the fence and planning to give the Special Demo a try? let us know.

I won a code from here admittedly I still haven't got around to completing it or importing my Mega Glalie into Alpha Sapphire yet.
@BLPs Simple, for hype building reasons. GameFreak may have been concerned about the possibility of ORAS being overlooked because of Smash 3DS (yearly series vs. never before on a handheld).
Uh so now everyone can download it? Im confused and im one of those on the fence of getting the game.
Cool... I guess?? :S
Downloaded, not too fussed to play it.
I got the four code mail... but I bought game 2 days before it arrives.
I think there is no reason to play the demo anymore
About time. I never got the codes before (or any codes for Smash/Monster Hunter) but I'm not so interested in pokemon to go code begging.
Probably. I mean, I have the full game, its just I haven't gotten round to playing it since like mid December..
Says the guy who has a ton of his phanhys as his profile picture.
I just started playing Pokemon - I beat X & Y, and I just beat Ruby and I am looking to buy Sapphire.
I would have to say I like X/Y over Ruby. Ruby was good, just not as good as X/Y.
Good news! I'll download it soon!
