The impressive sales figures for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire continue, with Nintendo Australia today announcing the latest entries in the long-running franchise experienced the biggest ever launch for a Nintendo title within Australia and New Zealand.
With combined sales exceeding 120,000 units in the first week, this figure smashes the previous local record set by Pokémon X & Y just a year ago, which shifted over 100,000 units.
In the same week of the release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X & Y have also become the highest selling Pokémon games in Australia and New Zealand, taking the record from Pokémon Diamond & Pearl which was released on the DS in 2007, and has sold over 330,000 units to date.
These latest record-breaking announcements follow the recent news that over 7.7 million units of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have been shipped worldwide.

I have not got one yet, but I think I will at Christmas even if I buy it myself (first to comment)
I didn't help, and won't be. Just not into pokemon, sorry.
Yep, day one from New Zealand for me. I love this game!
Not long now, hopefully in 8 days I'll be playing Alpha Sapphire!
Fandabidozi!
That's a tad surprising as I was under the impression that the launch of X & Y was more hyped than this. I know of several people who have bought a 3DS just to play X & Y despite not being Nintendo gamers by any stretch.
Frankly, I wasn't particularly excited about the remakes as I wasn't a huge fan of the GBA games. In fact, I played Alpha Sapphire for about an hour and I was reminded of why I didn't particularly care for the GBA generation (even though I finished it quite a number of times). Maybe it'll grow on me once I get past the first couple of gyms, but the game is just so tedious.
That's amazing!
Nintendo is doomed!
... Right guys?
Nope not me. Though on the same day did pick up the n3DS. Just not a Pokemon guy
That's nice. Although that's not too surprising since this is pokemon gen 6: the good edition
(I didn't like x and y that much, it was sort of average
Not me. Bought Y last year and it emphasised how much I don't care for Pokemon. But I knew how popular it was with eshop cards selling out at EB Games after its release with a 20% off deal.
I have never owned a Pokemon game.
That said, I did play a borrowed Gameboy Color and Pokemon for 10-15 hours over a weekend and Gale of Darkness on GC for 20-25 hours when that was still fairly new.
Not a big fan, don't mind them though.
7.7 million? WOW
I bought Pokémon Alpha Sapphire in November 24th and is my favorite Pokémon game.
Woah can't stop Pokemon i guess,but wow 7.7 million?That's amazing!
Funny because they're two of the worst ones.
Not as fun as X & Y, but still pretty good.
X & Y would have sold more if they didn't sell out, which is why Nintendo smartly shipped more OR AS here and launched the New 3DS & XL here at the same time. At least one gaming company actually cares about ANZ market.
PS Thanks to Ninty ANZ staff member who gave people the EON ticket at TTP today!!
That's not surprising.
The ORAS midnight launch here was massive (which was also the New 3DS launch).
Too bad OR/AS are the lowest quality, most lacking games so far. People always defend the lack of a battle frontier by saying "it's a remake of R/S, not emerald!"--HG/SS were also remakes, and they had the frontier added.
If the reason so many things are lacking from oras is because they were rushed, they should've spent more time on the games. It's now 3 years in a row that new main series Pokemon games have been released all around the same time, simply so they'll get more sales for the Holidays? Isn't it supposed to be quality over quantity?
