Super Smash Bros Wii U- Official Screenshots Nintendo 060

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS hit Japanese shops late last week – some even released it before the agreed date – and it's safe to say that no one is surprised by seeing it at number one in the charts today; Nintendo has already announced over one million launch weekend sales when downloads are included.

Media Create reports sales of nearly a million - physical retail — in less than a week; that's a tremendous achievement for a single game, especially considering the highly anticipated Destiny only sold a fraction of that figure. Yokai Watch 2 still holds its own and Mario Kart 8 is still a strong contender at number 8.

Nintendo's presence is much more encouraging than last week in software, with Sony's consoles slowly being pushed away and Microsoft left out in the cold for another week.

You can see the charts in their entirety below; lifetime sales are in brackets.

This week in hardware the 3DS LL (XL) has clawed back some sales, no doubt thanks to Super Smash Bros. and its impressive results. The original 3DS has also seen a little boost, but the LL is the one to buy according to these numbers. The Wii U has hardly changed since last week, but with its version of Super Smash Bros. just on the horizon we can expect an increase in sales as winter rapidly approaches. The biggest winner outside of the 3DS is Sony's PS4, with Destiny pushing it up to second in the results; in the process it's passed Nintendo's home console for the first time in a number of weeks.

1. 3DS LL – 31,602 (23,624)
