Nintendo fans across Europe and down under in Australia will know how painful it’s been waiting on the release of Shovel Knight while certain other regions have been enjoying the game on various platforms for some time now.
The good news is both of these regions have been making progress – although the status of the Aussie release is rather significant on this particular day, with an official classification of PG for "parental guidance" being granted by the local Australian Classification Board, ultimately meaning a release should not be far off.
Meanwhile, the status of the European release of Shovel Knight sits somewhere in between Localisation Implementation & Testing, and the Final Testing phase. Although it's not much, it's at least something to say it's still on the way. So enjoy this nice pixel-graphic below!
For those who are awaiting the release of Shovel Knight in their respective regions, are you still keen on purchasing it for either the 3DS or Wii U when it is finally made available? Let us know in the comments.

Hope it releases soon. When it does, I hope I haven't wasted all my money buying other stuff. It seems to take me forever to get eShop games.
I can wait a little longer.....great game but my back log is not going down. I'm working on a finish 2 games buy one ratio and I've got steamworld dig to get before this so that means I need to 100% mk8 , dk:tf AND mass effect 3 before this is available. Good times!
Wii U for me. Hurry up!
Just waiting for the DLC to come out now....
Have not made up my mind which one would be better.
Sucks that European release takes longer again that other regions, though wasn't it so that SK is not released in Japan either yet?
Now we're talking!! I'll be getting this day one!
Loosing interest now. May still get it, not sure.
Yep, avoided the PC version cos I want it on 3DS.
Still waiting for Wii U version. I've been tempted to get it on PC but so far I've managed to wait.
FINALLY some news! Haha! 3DS version all the way baby!
I'll get it if all this localisation time means it's actually in English.
I will get this the first day it releases on the WiiU in europe ^^
never got the PC version, because I wanted it on my WiiU, I hope that my WiiU menue will be big enough to fit all those awesome games ^^
YES
@Reverandjames That is how I now feel. I personally don't understand why it is taking so long, unless theres a huge amount of translations that are required for Europe. But even then I wouldn't think there would be all that much to translate.
About time. I've asked this elsewhere, but why is it exactly that the localisation process is such a lengthy process for consoles when there was nothing stopping them making it available to the entire world on Steam back at it's original launch?
Why is there still insistence on consoles that the extra language options be added in? These could easily be patched in further down the line, all consoles have online features and the ability to update games nowadays.
I'm genuinely confused here. Shovel Knight already had a PEGI rating (7+) when it launched on Steam, so what's the deal? When the PC version was rated, did this not apply to the console versions (being exactly the same game) either?
I'm not trying to be an angry troll, I just don't understand it.
It's times like this that I wish Churchill had taken America's offer of becoming the 51st state. The rest of the time I am grateful he didn't.
Finally an update on the Aussie version.
Sigh, just barely halfway...
@PAAppleyard Same here. Will probably only get it during a sale...
Here we have a new small company, this is not a Atlus (Sammy). So, I can forgive them for taking so long. I really like how transparent they have been with the process and supportive to potential fans. However, peoples general view across many media and gaming websites seems to be the hype train has aready left the station.
I stil find it strange, how this game get's people so excited. Being it looks like something, I've played as a kid on my Amiga.
I've kind of thought it may be an early 2015 release. I've got my hopes up for release over the holiday period tho.
@WYLD-WOO Its very short and easy. All versions other than 3DS are getting extra content though. Shin'en seems to manage ok and they have even less people.
@unrandomsam - Shin'en have been about for a little longer and have much more experience management wise. I've always wondered, if it comes down to the quality and experience of the management team. I assume, you've already played this game? What do you think of it?
Daaaaaaamn! Give it already!!!
NOE are keen for a 2014 release as they said in their schedule lasy Friday (same goes for Gunvolt) so you can sure once they get thier hands on it (i.e. it is submitted to them) they will work on getting it approved ASAP.
@BLPs You did notice in the timeline they got the ratings (and before the translations I might add). As for why they can't do UK/Aus only. Submitting to NOE is bad enough once having to do it a second time when the translations are done is not idea. Patches have to go through the same process too.
Sadly, I have totally lost interest in this game and they are gonna lose a lot of sales from people just like me in Europe who know about the game but don't chat on sites like this too. Unless I see it on sale for like €5 in the future, I'll be skipping it.
Stupid EU ratings board crap. It's all about them getting money, not the dev in my eyes.
YaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
@BLPs good point. I've lost count of the amount that little 10 year old Johnny comes in to game shop to buy cod or whatever with their mums/dads, makes it all seem slightly pointless. Also, shocking that you got banned for not using us english. I'm wondering though, when you used the letter U in words was it perchance *@$# yoU?!
@BLPs sounds like a good old fashioned power trip to me. With regards to the regulations I feel it's a no win situation. Game shop staff, ultimately, can't say no to an age appropriate person even if they know for a fact the purchase is for a minor. The lanfuage thing iss ridiculously ridiculous, I still remember people having a huge problem with the game boy color when nintendo released it in uk using the us spelling
Finally! Good to hear that my friends across the pond don't have much longer to wait for this gem.
