Spelunky with a dash of Metroid — it sounds just as bizarre, yet as appetising, as pea and ham soup. That’s why this weird match-up has now been made a reality by mod maker, joey4track.
To publicise his unique creation exclusive to the PC version of the game, he passed the modification onto YouTube personality and Spelunky runner BaerTaffy, who has now uploaded his own joyous experiences and impressions.
As seen in the video below — which features plenty of side commentary — there are many well-known Metroid characters, enemies, items and levels, along with familiar sound effects and a superb soundtrack.
The only downside is the creator is yet to make this Metroid-themed adventure publicly available. So until it is, enjoy the half-hour video below:

First 2 mins of video "so what are those face-hugger enemies in Metroid called?" ...
Maybe they should have got someone who actually knows literally the first thing about the Metroid universe?
I like it. Looks really cool, but could be the metroidlover speaking through me ^^
That was embarrassing to watch.. "what are those face-hugger enemies in METROID called?"... :/
Cool mod though.
@EarthboundBenjy Yeah, for someone who says "i love it" in every sentence, and then fails to know what exactly a "metroid" is, is kinda weird...
I bet he also likes nintendos adenture series, where you play this young boy in green clothes...what was his name...ah yes, Zelda was his name.
Oh, and i bet hes a great fan of this Halo dude, you know, the one who kinda looks like Doom Man.
@Einherjar I have to agree with you guys, I think there was some BS patter in the video! He was the only dude that had it, though, so we couldn't be picky
Having played every Metroid to date, but not a second of Spelunky, I have no idea what's going on myself. In terms of gameplay, is anything changed or is this more of an aesthetic mod (a baby metroid jumping like a frog?)? Stopped it when he embarrassingly stopped playing to look up what a metroid is. I'm surprised he knew who ZSS was.
Spelunky mods sure are dime a dozen these days
I've chosen to believe not knowing what a metroid is was a joke.
@Kilroy quite clearly most of his Metroid Knowledge came from Smash Bros, where ZSS features a lot in the last one.
I couldn't believe he didn't know what a Space Pirate is…
I mean, not the most difficult name to remember…
Yeesh, no need to jump on the dude because he doesnt know about Metroids. He got the mod first and made a video of it to show off, maybe he doesnt talk like you but not everyone on Earth supposed to talk like you.
Are nerds the new jocks? Cringing and poking fun when someone doesnt know what a layup or a halfback is?
No thanks. I'll accept the video for what it is: showing people a mod that they probably wouldnt know existed otherwise.
Who cares if the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The game looks infinitely more awesome than Other M.
Spelunky would be a great fit on the Wii U eShop. Just sayin'.
Noice!
Everyone being irrational and biased about him not knowing what it's called. Since I'm a Minecraft fan, and I forgot the name of Mooshrooms, would that make me stupid? No. Not at all. Forgetting the game, or not knowing the name at all, doesn't make you stupid. Who cares if he doesn't know the name? It's a darn video game enemy for god's sakes. A VIDEO GAME, ENEMY. I don't see the big deal. "OMG HE DOESN'T KNOW THE NAME OF GOOMBA U SHULD DIE!!!". Sometimes, you guys get mad over the most stupid things. But not as much as TSSZ News comments.
Besides, not everyone plays or likes what you do. I don't like the Metroid series, (fanboys in 3....2....1..) doesn't mean I have to. I didn't know Samus was a girl until SSBB. Doesn't mean I have to know. I didn't know the enemies were called Metroids until SSBB, also. DOESN'T MEAN I HAVE TO KNOW!!!! Seriously, are nerds bullying because they keep getting bullied? But, i'm a nerd...more of a geek.
@KarateKid1234 I don't know what most of the enemies are called in Mario. I know what they look like and how they behave and that is basically all I need to know. (The only reason I find out is if it is defined in a spin off game.)
He said he hasn't played a lot of Metroid, so why is him not remembering enemy names a big deal? I love the Strider series, yet I don't know what any of the mooks are called, does that make me stupid?
