Another puzzle solved

Last week we reported that Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy made its UK chart début in 13th place; as a single-format title up against various multi-platform behemoths it was a respectable showing. It seems that the power of bundles has done much for the title and its predecessor — Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask — with the new entry moving up to 10th and last year's release returning to the chart in 20th place. UKIE is attributing these results (especially in the case of Miracle Mask) to a particularly attractive 3DS XL bundle that includes both games; for example we have the retailer Argos, offering an XL and both games for £159.99.

There are a number of Nintendo system exclusives in the charts, no doubt enjoying some Holiday sales. Pokémon X & Y continue in 15th and 16th, with Y coming out on top this time around. Animal Crossing: New Leaf is 19th, while further down the list we have Luigi's Mansion 2 in 36th. Some multi-platform titles are also hanging around, with Wii U / 3DS release Sonic Lost World in 34th and DS / 3DS titles Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed in 38th.

In terms of Wii U-only exclusives we have just two entries, which are once again likely to be benefiting — in part — from a bundle containing both. New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U are in 29th and 31st places, respectively.

The power of bundles strikes again, while next week will bring the début of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds in the UK chart, and it'll be fighting for top spot against the Xbox One launch lineup.
